I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! March 30, 2019, I found a package on my doorstep with nothing written on it, meaning, there was no addresses or names to be found. Inside there was a notebook and a pencil. The notebook is completely filled. I think what was written in here was meant to be a whole ass book if I’m being honest. And that thought is really upsetting to me because somehow this ended up with me, and not the editor that it must have been going to. I feel terrible… after reading a few pages it is very obvious to me that someone poured a lot of time and effort into this and I have no way of figuring out who wrote it or who it was going to. I already threw out the box because it rained a lot the day before I saw it; the box was trashed and smelled like garbage. (Not about to bring that smell into my house…) Okay, this is the part where I need your help! Please reblog this, I don’t care who you are or how many followers you have, I need to know if they’re here and how this ended up with me. Also, If anyone knows a writer living in the Egg Harbor, New Jersey area who may have possibly sent their work to a publisher recently and/or owned a notebook resembling this one:

My name is Moukie. I’m writing this post on behalf of my best friend Kalen aka @bigskydreaming . He’s not in any sort of mental or emotional state to form a proper post, so I’m doing this for him because I want to help him any way I can.

Kalen’s a really good friend of mine. One of the best friends I have ever made on Tumblr. He means a ridiculous amount to me. He’s an actor by trade, but also freelances as a graphic designer. He’s a massive comic book nerd, and anyone who’s seen his rants and ravings about his favourite (and not so favourite) things can testify to the quality of this man’s mind and posts. 

He’s fun and funny and chill and smart and so incredibly hard working and just a wonderful person to be around. Plus, he’s always got a dope opinion on literally anything, and he’d be more than happy to talk to anyone at length about his interests in comics, books, shows, what have you.

Kalen is just a really warm, genuine person. It’s a crying fucking shame that such a beautiful soul is going through this bullshit, but please, with your help, he can be saved and continue to spread that joy and love around.

Here’s what’s going on:

Kalen has been going through a patch so rough, I wouldn’t even call it a rough patch, more like a rough football field times three. He’s been having medical issues for well over a year now and is nearing his breaking point. It terrifies me. And I can only imagine how much it terrifies him.

The situation is this: one of Kalen’s jaw joints has eroded. Stress was a big factor, but it’s literally worn down to the point it’s gone. As a result, his jaw hangs at an angle and causes him extreme pain any time he talks, chews, eats, swallows, moves his mouth, adjusts it, literally anything. 

He is in constant, blinding pain and has been for more than a year. It’s to the point that he’s no longer able to safely drive, as the pain and jaw nerve results in him going intermittently blind. It’s incredibly serious and hell for him. 

He’s currently living in a motel day to day and he’s way behind on rent because he can’t find any jobs in his condition. He usually freelances, but it’s getting harder and harder to find work to sustain not only his rent, but also due to his intermittent bouts of blindness thanks to that jaw nerve being impinged, he can’t reliably continue to stare at a computer to do his trade when he’s starving and in debilitating pain.

For the past year he’s been working hard to try and get this resolved, and even had a cancer scare with respect to the jaw joint. The steps he’s taken have included being to a specialist who has assured him that despite this being a rare situation, it is something that can be fixed, so long as he has a CT Scan done so they can determine whether or not he will need a custom made prosthetic or if he’s able to use a premade one. Then a surgeon who specializes in this procedure will have to perform it. 

Due to his finances and situation, he’s had to reschedule the appointment for the CT scan three times, and his morale is taking a massive beating. He never thought he’d get this close to being out of this nightmare, and it’s crushing to be this close and fail. 

He’s worked so hard to improve his situation. He’s managed to get insurance that, if they approve of it, will fund a good portion of the surgery.  He’s been diligent in fixing his credit so he can afford an apartment when all is said and done after the surgery.

Kalen is behind on his insurance premiums ($800/month) because of all that’s going on and the dwindling work, so he can’t afford his CT scan and his insurance to cover most of the insurance costs. 

To make matters worse, he’s been quoted upwards of $25,000 USD for this procedure if he cannot get his insurance to cover it. A GoFundMe is an option if all else fails, but time is of the essence.

Kalen does not have any family he can rely on, because he cut off ties with them due to their toxicity. Family is more than just blood, and he was not going to sacrifice his mental health to play games with people who didn’t care for or about him.

But that’s okay, because we can be his family. We, the generation of hopefuls and those who perform inspiring random acts of kindness, can come together and change his life for the better. We can be his new family, and family always has each other’s backs.

$25,000 seems like a lot. But if we break it up into more manageable portions, it is something we can absolutely achieve. 

If 1,000 of my followers sent him $25 each, he would be set for the surgery, and any other costs that might occur while he’s off work and recuperating.

Bills are getting tougher and tougher each month to pay even with all of us having jobs and to take care of all our puppos and kitkats so I raise this again!  Even little bit counts, and gets me closer to making physical merch reward tiers, an online shop, and finally going to a con for the first time!

I want to prove to my family as well that I can support myself by drawing and hopefully with my art make people smile even for a moment.

Every 40 seconds someone commits suicide.

Bad News: 

I just left my job, and I am now on the hunt for a new one. I wasn’t able to handle the amount of stress that job did to me, having to leave work around 1am was enough of killer then the actual job itself. Long shifts where we were under paid and conditions that were not right at all. I just quit. 

Good News:

I’ll be more active on Pocket-Penny now that I don’t have a job, and that means I’ll be able to open commissions so that I can pay for my laptop and such.
