what's the point of initiating conversations with people when 99.9% of them turn out to be normies
okay. how do I put this. if you approach interactions with strangers as if the vast majority of them are unbearable losers who aren't worth your time, you will find yourself not liking most of the people you meet because you'll be looking for any excuse to write them off as unbearable losers. I know this is hard to hear but sometimes the problem is you.
Really hate that most people donât understand the difference between âself-expressionâ and âartistic-expression.â
I say this as someone who sells pottery, and many people who see my art assume I am using art as an outlet to âexpress myself.â
I am not.
I use art to challenge myself. A lot of what I do is the equivalent of doing a hard sudoko or a half marathon, answering the question of âcan I do this?â
I use art to question things and explore ideas. Finding physical synthesis between concepts and working out a design to its end state.
I use art to make money. I make some things just because I suspect theyâll sell well, and I keep making them when they do.
This idea that an artist is âputting themselves out thereâ every time they create is not only stupid, but harmful, and it kills critique and analysis.
Yes every creative work is influenced by its creator, but the most preliminary step of analysis is to define the purpose of a work of art (functional, narrative, entertainment, persuasive, decorative, ceremonial, etc.) and a vanishingly small percentage of that is self-expression. Even then, itâs generally tied to the selfâs relationship with something elseâperception, society, etc.
Itâs very tiresome to have people assume they know you because they like (or dislike) your art, to make assumptions about who you are and how you approach the world. Itâs nothing newâ people called the Impressionists insane and the Fauvists degenerate. And now people are expected to hand out their identities and traumas to prove they have the right to explore certain subjects.
But to actually understand art, you have to contextualize it beyond assuming itâs just what the artist felt like making at the moment and itâs somehow coming from their deepest soul, or youâll badly misinterpret most art you come across.

The award-winning model says his banishment was the worst day of his life.
A gay Canadian adult film star claims that he was detained for over eight hours by U.S. Customs before receiving a 10-year ban from the country. Milo Miles said he was traveling to Las Vegas from Toronto's Pearson Airport in January when a routine U.S. customs screening turned into a nightmare. "It was the worst and most painful day of my life," Miles told LGBTQ Nation. "I was subjected to derogatory comments, with an unsettling focus on my sexual orientation and my sex life." Miles said his phone and luggage were searched, and he was asked intrusive questions about his sexuality and line of work. âAll of this happened on two hours of sleep. I was starving, dehydrated, and in a state of complete exhaustion. I was treated like a criminal despite having done nothing wrong. I felt coerced, manipulated, and powerless. I am devastated.â U.S. Customs has the right to deny entry to people they believe are sex workers, even if theyâve never been convicted, and will use coercive tactics to try and elicit a confession, according to Maggies, a Canadian sex worker justice organization. [...] According to Miles, who was planning on visiting his boyfriend in Florida after the award show, U.S. Customs accused him of "escorting with no evidence" and were fixated on the "gay clothes," fiber pills, and PrEP he had packed, despite finding nothing illegal in his possessions. Miles ended up missing his flight due to the lengthy interrogation. When he came back the next day to catch another flight, he was interrogated again, and this time they found evidence of his career in the porn industry. "This officer decided to be a lot more thorough with his search and interrogation," he said. "After about two hours of intense interrogation, he found evidence that I do porn on my personal phone. Then, over the next two hours found evidence of escorting on my other phone." Miles said that they never found any evidence of prostitution, but noticed text conversations he had with past escorting clients â who he mostly provides with a boyfriend experience â and current text messages where he was trying to make plans with a client in Las Vegas. "Escorting is an exchange of money for time spent with an individual," he clarified. "For example, most of my clients are looking for 'the boyfriend' experience. Or someone to go to dinner with. Prostitution is an exchange of money for sexual services. There was never any evidence of prostitution on my phone, only escorting." Getting banned from the U.S. isnât just bad for his career â he shoots a significant portion of his adult film project in the country â but has also damaged his personal life. "I was planning on building a life in the United States with my [future] husband, with my partner, who's American," Miles said. When asked by LGBTQ Nation what advice he would give other queer travelers, he said, "Avoid the United States at all costs. Itâs not worth it. Itâs not worth it to put your life at risk."
Even if he were a prostitute, the government should have no right to do this to any sex worker.
There is no queer liberation without liberation for sex workers.
They didn't actually find evidence of him being a sex worker, but his work is close enough that he was denied entry on the suspicion. He has been assumed guilty, and punished based on a crime he isn't committing.
Which idk seems like a really bad precedent for a country to set, even with visitors. Because if they do that to people they don't have any real jurisdiction over, what will they do to folks they actually have authority over?
This is literally what people are talking about when they say AI will be used to mainstream widely held bigotry. LLMs are trained on frequency and probability -> straight relationships are more well represented in the dataset -> straight pronouns and terms become the "correct" normal.
This is a form of backdoor bigotry from both normative facts (there are more straight than gay relationships) and well represented bigoted beliefs (men are superior to women).
Combine this with the mass of people inclined to believe (and being encouraged to believe) that if AI says and does something it must be correct
I worked briefly in regulating AI back when the US actually believed in that and this was exactly the shit that I, the single queer enby in the office, spent trying to beat into the heads of all the white straight men around me.
It is worth noting that as one of its first actions, the Trump administration pulled federal funding and halted federal work on preventing bias in AI (and then proceeded to rip up all the guardrails I and my fellow ethicists had installed).
There is a reason the AI shitsunami has hit over the last two years and it's that someone went and erased all the regulations.
Sigh.

I must not fall victim to disgust. Disgust is the heart-killer. Disgust is the little-death that brings total apathy. I will face my disgust. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the disgust has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

some nights by fun really is the most 2012 song ever because its like: "the US government didnt give a fuck about the soldiers it sent to kill and be killed all for politicking points. the whole thing was a farce, costing countless people their lives. also heres a 30 second autotune vocal solo where i just kind of make sounds into the mic for a bit with a crazy filter."
"I want to support a streamer but I don't have money how can I help"
Good question and I love you!
Be active in chat. It helps keep the energy up
Invite friends to the stream. Regular viewer numbers help significantly
Bump stream announcements if you can
BE ACTIVE IN CHAT. Seriously. Active chatters is a measured metric.
"I don't have anything funny or clever to say in chat though"
Doesn't matter! we like to see engagement and so does the twitch overlord. Simple agreements, "love this" and other stuff like that are totally great! And feedback is AWESOME
5. Make clips! Funny bits that happen on stream are much more shareable in short form videos than in the 2-6 hours vod archives that most small channels are working with
my advice to TADC fans who liked the finale is that you should watch Infinity Train Book 3 and my advice to TADC fans who didnât like the finale is that you should also watch Infinity Train Book 3

If you ever thought for a damn second about giving this website money because they add little pride flag decals I'm gonna need you to put that paper into a trans woman's Bank account ok thnx
Understand that it's not just annoying or cringe to have tumblr merch. If you're buying shit from their merch store, you're putting money in the pockets of people who have contributed to the mass harassment and deplatforming of trans women and people of color for a decade or more.

âSubvertingâ Catholic art? Oh, okay. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You log onto the internet and you post about how âWound of Christâ from Psalter and Prayer Book of Bonne de Luxembourg, attributed to Jean le Noir, c.1349, for instance, looks like a vulva because you're trying to tell the world that you enjoy Catholic art and imagery in an alternative, queer, risquĂŠ way that challenges Christian beliefs. But what you don't know is that that stigma isnât just a vulva. It's not just a mandorla. It's not just yonic. It's actually intentionally erotic. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that around 1297, Saint Angela of Foligno experienced a vision of Christ himself, who called her to put her mouth to the wound in his side and lick the freshly flowing blood. And then I think it was Saint Catherine of Siena who drank blood and a clear liquid from the wound before receiving a ring made from Christâs foreskin? And then graphically erotic encounters with the side wound of Christ quickly showed up in the writings of eight different mystics. And then the yonic interpretation of the stigmata filtered down through the illuminated manuscripts and then trickled on down into some pseudo-intellectual corner of the internetâŚwhere you, no doubt, fished it out of some Pinterest board. However, that interpretation represents hundreds of years and countless visions of religious ecstasy. And it's sort of comical how you think that you've come up with an idea that exempts you from Christian theology when, in factâŚyou're posting an image that was sexualized for you by the very Medieval saints you think youâre so different thanâŚfrom âsubvertedâ Catholic art.
RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70âs and 80âs. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.

Reblogging in honor of Marjane Satrapi, one of THE great graphic novelists. Her comic Persepolis was a crucial text for shaping my belief that comics can deeply explore identity, culture, politics, and history.
