Yelena Belova is marching in her very first Pride March—with Kate Bishop by her side, naturally. A low-key day is thrown into disarray when Alexei Shostakov shows up, believing no gesture is too large when it comes to supporting his daughter. Hijinks and craziness ensue—but in the end, as long as she has Kate Bishop, everything will always be OK.

“Are you excited?” “With you, Kate Bishop, there is always excitement.” Kate furrowed her brow. “That’s not what I asked.” The Black Widow-slash-New Avenger sighed. “I am excited not to be on Valentina’s float. I am always…excited…to spend time with you, detka. But…this is my first time, da, doing…all of this.” Yelena gestured at the crowds assembling around them, the masses of humanity with flags and banners every color of the rainbow, signs and balloons and rainbow wigs and outfits. “I…discovering myself, who I am outside of a Widow and a weapon, as a person with feelings and control over my own choices…this is a lot. I…never imagined I might be capable of such things…” The blonde shoved her hands in the pockets of her green cargo pants, before pulling them back out to double-check that her belt buckle embossed with the red Black Widow logo was still securely attached to today’s rainbow-striped belt. The buckle had been a gift from Kate Bishop—branding, naturally—and when Yelena had hesitated about wearing her sister’s symbol, afraid that she was not worthy of it, the archer had suggested she could wear it in honor of Natasha. And what better way to honor her sestra and all she had fought for than wearing that red hourglass in celebration of living her life, free to be who she wanted—as well as showing that the Widows were more than just Dreykov’s disposable weapons. They were people, in all the vast variety that humanity possessed.

This was inspired (in a “this is the way my mind works” fashion 😂) by this post from @fake-tweets that I saw on the last day of Pride Month 2025. I came up with the initial scenario and filed it away before stumbling upon it again this month. @girlonthefireescape’s tags filled in the New Avengers angle—and also gave birth to her ficlet Pink, Purple, and Blue, with which this fic shares a universe. You don’t need to have read that one first, but, honestly, why wouldn’t you read it? So thanks to both of them for the inspiration/assistance!
