The longer you look at it the more obvious it is that basically all the problems of the world have solutions, that somebody is EVENTUALLY going to implement them (maybe not now, maybe not today, but eventually).
When this happens, it becomes increasingly clear that the only real purpose of Doomerism is to allow the person espousing it to let themselves off the hook for doing anything to help improve the world around them.
It's just laziness masquerading as enlightenment. If there's no hope, then you can feel morally validated and justified in fucking off and not doing anything.
I've got no patience for it anymore. I'm not going to argue with people who do it, but I am going to ignore them.
The stuff you know.
Please read the Ravenor series for my babygirl Carl Thonius.

Cherubael from last year, it never really got much attention, though I was very happy how it turned out. Maybe this pretty baby can find some appreciation of Tumblr? Also consider following my new shiny blog for more 40k art, and other cool stuff. 🤭 If you like my art, consider tipping! MY TIP JARS HERE ❤️🩹

God I love these books.
Remembering for no reason at all the time a friend and I were watching the old my fair lady movie and someone pointed out that Jeremy Brett was primarily known for playing Sherlock Holmes. I immediately—for no reason at all—made a crack about the alley where he sings “on the street where you live” being temporarily safe from air-guns, which is a deep literary cut about a Sherlock Holmes story, and because the joke was way out of left field and it was 2 AM we all promptly died laughing. People were in physical pain and I almost pissed myself.
Anyway I miss those days sometimes, and I still can’t see My Fair Lady without making a joke about air-guns that almost nobody gets.
Last of the currently assembled PA models plus Crowe have been silvered. Next is a Drakenhoff Nightshade wash, then on to highlights and details.
The Black Blade of Antwyr being functionally trapped and prevented from laying waste to entire sub sectors of the galaxy by possessing its wielder by virtue of being carried around by a dude who has emptied himself of all desires other than duty is actually kindof hilarious.
Eternal doom-sword stuck and prevented from destroying everything because the guy carrying it around has no thoughts in his head.

Pictured: my termies forcing an entire sisters combat patrol to come to them on their home objective for multiple rounds while I ran around the rest of the board and scored. High value trade, but man watching them just not die turn after turn was so funny.
Gate of Infinity is so fun.
Played two of my first real combat patrol games today and I’m gratified to learn that the army I picked purely for aesthetic and lore reasons actually suits my play style quite well. Gate of Infinity is extremely fun.
Why yes give me a small number of elite units so I don’t have to keep track of a bunch of bodies and let me play for scoring by teleporting them around the board strategically.
Let me seize key objectives, force my enemy to come to me in disadvantaged ways, and clap-back like a hurricane when they come at me.
Damn that was a good time.
And just like that I have a bunch more painting to do.
It’s so funny to me that in this universe of chaos gods and grand crusades and the fates of multiple species on the line one of the most compelling narratives is two old, eternally bickering robot-men having the galaxy’s pettiest academic feud.
Anyway this looks great.
The next Black Library novel by Robert Rath is coming.
There are a lot of guys whose personal values skew “progressive but only in an economic way. I still get to keep my racial hierarchy and treat women like garbage.”
The number of “progressive” white men (honestly this one crosses racial boundaries as well but I’m gonna keep my criticism inside my own proverbial house) who still expect dutiful obedience to patriarchal structures from their wives or girlfriends is off the charts.
Liberals that I know claim this is a Leftist thing. Leftists I know claim this is a Liberal thing. Honestly it’s just a dipshit men thing. It’s everywhere.
And the thing is there’s nothing wrong with a relationship where you both fit your archetypical gender role, but when it’s EXPECTED, and IMPOSED, and the guy refuses his share of the division of labor, that’s where your problem is.
And unfortunately, being left of center does not ipso facto render men immune to this.

We have to make our own Hope. The universe isn’t going to supply it.
Why do this? Why continue to plant flowers in blasted ground and bring children into a world of violence and pain? Because life is worth living. People who have lived in darker times believed so, and I will not do less.
I am a student of medieval history. I remember the punch in the gut, reading about the people who survived the Black Death, but there was tremendous hope and resilience in their story. They saw half the world die, and the resolved to continue living.
How can I do less? I will not shame them.
One set of my grandparents saw the Great Depression, the Second World War, the Korean War, and lived for a time in a dangerous and undeveloped part of the world, where they raised five children under the shadow of a dictators rule. I am one of their eleven grandchildren. My children are two among their twenty-five great-grandchildren. I live because they lived.
I refuse to die before my time.
I refuse to teach my children that defeat and loss are the only constants of life. Great beauty persists even in the sunsets over bloody battlefields, and flowers bloom in the ashes of the scorched fields of war. Mercy. Love. Decency. These things never truly die.
Maybe I am no-one of significance, but I don’t need to be. We all make our mark on this world, and no matter what happens I refuse to let mine be a mark of cynical despair. Fuck that. My family raised me better, and my ancestors did not bring me about to let the world make a coward of me.
As long as blood pumps in a single human heart, there is hope. As John Keats said: “the poetry of earth is never dead.”
And neither are we.
Not yet.
So I’m back to assembly. Second combat patrol is coming along nicely.
