can you imagine how ridiculous it’d be if i said that men should spend 3 figures each month on beauty “maintenance”, should be slapped and choked during sex, should have to cover their hair and bodies for “modesty”, aren’t allowed to look older than a high schooler….

yet these same standards are enforced onto every woman and girl. interesting.

Plus it's a good tactic to from this as women's organic sexuality without acknowledging how men have had a role in influencing women from birth.

No, emulating a 12-year-old as seen through a pedophile's eyes is not a woman expressing sexuality.

Calling herself a little girl and wanting something big up her pussy is not a woman expressing sexuality.

don't give me credit, I'm just agreeing with what other people have said. I've been uncomfortable with sabrina carpenter's branding for a while. and I actually do like her music. love me some mindless cutesy pop music.

but I've been baffled at people who insist that she's "for the female gaze" while she's gyrating on the stage in lingerie singing about how great she is at sex with men. because she's... bedazzled in sequins, I guess? and that makes it hyperfeminine and therefore for the girls? I honestly can't follow the logic.

and I guess I have to give her team props because this super-degrading brand has absolutely done what it was supposed to do and catapulted her to superstardom. there's no such thing as bad press in this industry. controversy and shock factor can be a highly effective marketing strategy if it doesn't alienate your audience. you know, sabrina carpenter has been around for a while. she just didn't get very popular until she started this sexy-baby thing. (if you like girlypop music, you've probably heard some of her earlier work and didn't realize it was her.) I just have a few thoughts on that issue.

first - it's still degrading. I don't care if it's a well-trod path that dozens of female starlets have walked before her. it's degrading. men don't have crawl on the ground with their ass out to get famous. men get to wear pants.

second - she has clearly taken too far. everything before this point kind of had a "too much moscato on girls' night" vibe, if you get what I mean? like yeah, it's degrading as a stunt for fame, but the imagery and tone was evocative of something women do identify with. (I guess as far as that's concerned, I can almost see where the "it's for the female gaze" thing comes from?)

porn itself is deeply reactionary, it’s fundamentally misogynistic, very often racist and generally anti-human. so you’re showing kids reactionary content starting often at ages 9, 10, 11, when they’re extremely impressionable. and when they start masturbating to it, it’s creating a dopamine reward in response to reactionary images

i also feel frankly like a lot of them are so anti-intellectual and anti-authority in part because of this, and because of the other harms the internet is doing to them. they keep saying this lmao. a lot of zoomers who started watching porn early say that they feel they were molested by this. as a society we’re failing to protect children from the internet, and they’re aware of this, even if they’re screen addicted and can’t live without it and would shoot you if you took it away. on some level they know something isn’t right, that society and adults have failed them, and their QOL is lower than it should be. why would they trust us? Clearly we’re weak and fucking stupid!
