Alternate timeline in which all Greek and Latin roots are swapped:
catastrophe -> contraverse cephalopod -> capitoped chlorophyll -> viridofolia democracy -> populimpery homicide -> anthropoctony homosexual -> equigamic kilometer -> millimensure interregnum -> mesarchy magnanimous -> megapsychic manuscript -> chirography motorcycle -> ergatorote microscope -> parvovisor oxygen -> acidofex polyamory -> multierasty television -> remotoscope universe -> monostrophe
So many political posts I hate boil down to "I don't want to organize and work with people I hate and fight for small, incremental victories, I just want to start a revolution where everyone magically becomes an automaton who acts exactly the way I think they should act"
Like damn man, I want that too. Unfortunately I live in reality though so we're stuck with the first thing.
"Modern movements are too fractured, too aimless, with too much infighting and corruption among the leadership. What we need is a revolution, which famously never have any issues with those things" okay then. Good luck I guess
This whole line of thinking comes down to "the current systems and leadership are bad. What we need is a fresh start with only people who are good, and then all the systems will be good". Which is simply not how anything has ever worked!
"We don't have enough people, funding, and power to bring about changes through elections! We have to do an armed revolution instead which thankfully doesn't require people, funding, or power to pull off."

in order to build muscle you need to train to failure and we say that a lot but dont really explain what that means.
most people stop when their muscles start to feel the "burn", or get a little shaky. that's fatigue, not failure. if you're training to fatigue, you'll increase oxygen uptake and endurance in those muscles, but not so much size or strength.
failure is when you physically can't do another clean rep- you try to do another pushup, but you arms just won't lower you to the floor or even really hold your weight anymore. it shouldn't involve any sort of sharp pain, sharp or shooting pains mean STOP IMMEDIATELY. but it should feel physically impossible to do another rep, like when you try to lift something too heavy for you. and you should have pretty bad DOMS the next day- sore and stiff. you want to create microtrauma in your tissues via progressively overloading them to stimulate growth.
an effective exercise should get you to failure within ten reps. if you can do more than ten, try a harder variation if you're doing calisthenics, or add more weight if you're lifting. your strength ceiling is VERY high. women start out with less overall lean mass, but we actually build a higher percentage of muscle proportionate to what we already have, and recover more quickly than males, so your work will pay off if you train properly.
What exercises you would recommend for someone who is a beginner?
to be honest i just pick a muscle group and search online for calisthenics exercises and variations to target that group. strengthening your core is always a good place to start. i usually focus on upper body/arms, back, core, legs on different days. dont do your whole body in one day. you wont be able to move the next day LOL
thinking about the time i used to volunteer at homeless shelters in high-school. passing out food, sitting down for conversations, etc.
there were an overwhelming amount of men, and little to no women at all. there were no separate dormitories either.
i asked staff why this is at multiple places.
it's because there's such a high rate of sexual violence, sometimes just assault in general, threats of murder towards homeless women in these shelters, that they'd rather sleep outside, spend their time OUTSIDE. even in the freezing cold. and it gets really really cold where i am in wintertime.
when i finally found a woman in there, she told me that "it's more dangerous in here, than it is out there."
Assuming the homeless ppl in that area were half and half women, this meant that taking in homeless men would actively prevent homeless women from using those facilities. So at some point you gotta choose who you help.
I cannot stress enough that women can't save men from themselves. Women can't be there in the boys' locker rooms, they can't shield them from other drunk men at football matches. Women can't control the media their coworkers consume, they can't stop their brothers from watching violent pornography. It's not even a matter of saving or prioritising ourselves over men, though we are well within our rights to do so. We physically can't be there. I solemnly swear that every man I come across, I aim to make them just uncomfortable enough so as to offer them a small way out of their terrible view of the world. I just can't pull them out.
The willingness to deconstruct patriarchal structures needs to come from men themselves. My feminism cannot 'include' men anymore than my anti-racism can 'include' white people, or my economics 'include' the bourgeoisie. Just because I need their co-operation and affirm them to be my equal fellow human does not require me to make their self-interest my priority. In fact, it's quite the opposite.
These mantras saying men will not lose anything by treating women as their equal, or the notion that the patriarchy is just as oppressive to men as it is to women are sweet attempts to lure men out of the hell of their own creation, but I need feminists not to forget that it isn't true. Men benefit from patriarchy. Ultimately, men need to treat women as their equals not because it is beneficial to them but because it is inhumane to do otherwise.
Women are raised to fear men, yet if you explicitly say that you fear men itās wrongā¦?
From a young age, you are told not to hang out with boys and āthey only want one thingā and you hear stories in the news of women being kidnapped, assaulted or murdered by men. Or that if you go out, donāt be surprised if your drink is spiked and to take measures to prevent this etc etc. Fathers especially hate the idea of their daughters being around men because they fear for their safety. There is this general idea that is taught to you as a woman, specifically as a young woman (16-24) that there are men out to get you and you need to be very cautious.
But if you say that youāre scared of men, you are immediately met with statements like ādonāt say thatā ānot every man is badā āyou shouldnāt generaliseā āwell then how do you expect to find a boyfriend?ā āwhat about your dad or brother?ā āthatās a little dramatic, donāt you think?ā
So which is it? Are we to be scared of men or not?
I think youāre supposed to be scared of an anonymous generic man in the distance, not the specific man in front of you.
that's what Sarah Lucia Hoagland describes as "paternalism" as a specific strategy of oppression through deskilling and seemingly "benevolent" structural denial of independent autonomy and self-determination! and it is at the core of lesbian feminist definition of heterosexualism as articulated by her in Lesbian Ethics
"What I am calling 'heterosexualism' is not simply a matter of males having procreative sex with females. It is an entire way of living which involves a delicate, though at times indelicate, balance between masculine predation upon and masculine protection of a feminine object of masculine attention. <...> As a result, men presume access to women while women remain riveted on men and are unable to sustain a community of women.
<...> When a woman is accompanied by a man... she is usually no longer considered fair game. As a result, men close to individual women - fathers, boyfriends, husbands, brothers, escorts, colleagues - become protectors (theoretically), staving off advances of other men.
<...>
What a woman faces in a man is either a protector or a predator, and men gain identity through one or another of those roles."
"In other words, the logic of protection is essentially the same as the logic of predation. Through predation, men do things to women and against women all of which violate women and undermine women's integrity. Yet protection objectifies just as much as predation. To protect women, men do things to women and agains women; acting "for a woman's own good," they violate her integrity and undermine her agency.
Protection and predation emerge from the same ideology of male dominance, and it is a matter of indifference to the successful maintenance of male domination which of the two conditions women accept."

I honestly think that if you're trying to assist in social change for a marginalised group, you should never have to sacrifice feminism. at all. every step of the way, every decision, women should never be put on the back burner.
people act like that's really hard but its really not considering all you have to do is have female default when asking "what can we do to help these people" rather than male default. at least 50% of whatever group you're talking about is probably women. further: helping women will help the children too.
you are not being anti-racist if you ignore racism against and the struggles of POC women. you are not fighting ablism if you don't consider how disabilities effect women specifically. you are ignoring at least 50% of the group you claim to advocate for - that means you are not advocating for that marginalised group, you are just advocating for men.
