AO3 does not live in “the cloud” because that is other people’s computers, and other people’s computers are vulnerable to censorship.
AO3 is on its own computers. It does still have to be housed somewhere, and I suppose a determined enough hater could try to find that place and go after it, but it’s a lot harder than sending spurious complaints to Amazon or whomever going “BadWrong things are hosted on your cloud service!”
Owning the servers is a core tenet of OTW/AO3.

When people involved with AO3 talk about “the cost of servers” they don’t mean “the cost to pay Amazon for space on their servers.” They mean, like, the cost to physically own them, and eventually replace them with new ones. And the operating costs to run them.
AO3 is not “in the cloud.” AO3 is stored on physical machines that the OTW owns.
While this is not a solution that can work for everyone who wants to deal with controversial content, it is why AO3ple sneer at alt-righters who complain about getting thrown off hosting platforms.

I feel like simply calling JK Rowling a transphobe isn't strong enough anymore. Like. This is not your grandpa calling you by your deadname at a restaurant kind of transphobic. This is her wanting to eradicate all trans people (with an extra special hatred towards trans women specifically). This is her trying just that by personally funding transphobic hate groups with millions to push around laws in the UK. It is not hyperbolic to call her a dangerous, genocidal maniac.
It's not about cancelling a problematic writer. It's about literally trying to save lives by denying her as much money and power as possible.
It’s not even about money atp as she’s literally a billionaire (though you still shouldn’t give her any MORE). However, what she relies on more than money is social currency. By seeing her films, buying her merch, by engaging in the fandom, you are giving her more of a platform.
The way to defeat someone like her is to make her fade into obscurity, to make her name meaningless, and therefore worthless to any social organization who wants to legitimize itself by associating with a celebrity.

yes that's because they hit the "nuke the tranny off the website" button that deletes every post you've ever made all the media attached to them and removes all reblogs of those posts
the only reason this post still exists at all is because it was in someone's queue or drafts
let's not start pretending that being able to appeal helped
they terminated me for explicit content after appealing the explicit flag on the content that they accepted the appeal on after terminating me for it
then when I appealed the termination they lied about why i was terminated and terminated my already-terminated account a second time, which just so happened to be the termination reason they have the bot set up to automatically instantly deny appeals on, and then upgraded the termination from an account deactivation to a post-mortem complete nuke
then they terminated my next account for explicit content despite having zero posts flagged at all. and when I appealed that they did the exact same thing AGAIN
then on the account after they just skipped the middle step and terminated me for CSAM when I was just posting roblox screenshots
and then THREE MONTHS LATER they get back to me about a report I sent on that first account saying they were just soooooo swamped and couldn't get around to it (but not so swamped they couldn't do this bullshit to me)
also they mature flagged this blog because I appealed the sexually explicit flag on an anime screencap (that they denied the appeal on). by the way here's the episode the screencap was from on youtube under the TV-14 age rating so you know just how sexually explicit it was:
