Sam drags Tucker into Dannyâs apartment after they bid Danny good luck on his date. She ignores his protests of her nails hurting and and practically throws him into the living room before slamming the front door. Dannyâs neighbor yells something but Sam canât hear it over her anger.
âWhat the hell was that? He finally, finally! Goes on a date, and youâre face couldnât look anymore sour then if you drank lime and pickle juice!â
âCome on Sam, even you have to admit that was an obvious catfish!â Tucker yells back while checking on his arm.
âWhat the fuck are you talking about?â
âThe guy he matched with doesnât exist! At least not anymore! Donât you remember the case! The guys name itself was a red flag!â
âI have no idea what youâre going on about.â
Tucker looked at her incredulously, âhave you not listened to any of the true crime podcasts Iâve recommended on my blog?â
Sam crossed her arms and just starred at him.
âYou havenât even read my blog have you?â
âIâve been busy,â Sam defended.
âWeâre literally roommates you have not been busy!â
âIt doesnât matter,â Sam said putting her arms up in defeat, âwhat happened there connects to the guy our Danny is going on a date with?â
âEight years ago Bruce Wayne adopted a boy. A son who likes everything listed on that guyâs profile. Pride and Prejudice, neapolitan ice cream, and favorite color green,â Tucker says as her takes out his phone and starts typing quickly.
âOkay?â Sam says, âwhat does that have to do with anything?â
âThat boy died, four years ago, officially, in Ethiopia. Iâve seen the morgue papers myself. Itâs one of the biggest cover ups this century. And his name was Jason Todd,â he turned his phone around to show a picture of a boy. And Sam paused. While this photo was of a teenage boy, it definitely was the same face as the profile Danny showed them a an hour ago. Just more baby fat.
âHoly fuck Dannyâs in trouble.â
Breaking driving laws wasnât something Sam did often in Gotham. Especially this close to night time but her friend was in trouble.
âThey arenât supposed to be at the restaurant for another twenty minutes. We could stake out on the roof-â
â-and risk a bat seeing us-â Sam interrupts.
â-Theyâll understand when we tell them, they probably think Toddâs death is also fishy and wouldnât like a man pretending to be him.â
Thankfully there was an apartment building across the street, with still attached fire escape. It still creaked though.
âMan I fucking hate this,â Tucker says, âhow the hell do these not crumble under Batman or Red Hoodâs weight fuckâ
âYour idea,â Sam says, smirking at Tuckerâs yeah I know.
Sitting at the roofâs edge wasnât comfortable but anything for their friend, anything was worth it.
It was freezing but they didnât have to wait long for the motorcycle that was as on the guyâs profile to park outside the restaurant.
Sam slapped Tuckerâs arm to get him out of his phone and conspiracy boards, âheâs here.â
They watched as he set up the kickstand. The guy was as bulky as the photos were, so Tucker was thinking maybe Jasonâs face photo shopped on the real guyâs body.
The guy took off his gloves and shoved them in his side bag. Before closing the bag back up he took out flowers, red spider lilies. Dannyâs favorite.
âThatâs actually sweet,â Tucker remarks then avoids Samâs glare.
When the guy reaches for the strap of his helmet, Tucker gets his camera ready. But he doesnât snap a picture because heâs frozen in shock.
Standing on that sidewalk was the same face from the profile. Only his green eyes glowed when in the flesh. Like Dannyâs did.
âHoly shit,â Tucker says, âholy shit Jason Toddâs like Danny.â
âHeâs like Danny,â Sam repeats in astonishment.
They both look at each other then start smiling, âheâs perfect!â
They started celebrating by hugging and jumping around, âDannyâs got a soulmate!â
They were shaking each other back and forth by their shoulders when they heard screaming from below.
âSam! Tucker!â They turned to see Danny, holding the lilies in his hand, and Jason snickering behind him, âwhat the fuck guys!â
