Did you know? Tumblr DOES have a post length limit. Strangely, though, it's based on how many blocks of text you have. Supposedly this implies that you can have any length post so long as it's one block of text? Very strange, will have to investigate further.
Two limits! You can have a maximum of 4,096,000 characters in 1 [one] tumblr post. I would work out how many combinations this is, but 26^6,000 is already considered to be "Infinity" by most calculators, and a program I wrote threw an error code.
26^95,000 is already over 134,000 characters long - which would take 33 different text blocks to convey via tumblr. Whenever somebody says we're running out of posts, don't forget that tumblr is needlessly designed for MASSIVE amounts of information [no matter how detrimental it may be for mobile phones].
There are SOME works of fanfiction which are lengthy enough that you couldn't fit the whole thing into one tumblr post, but this is enough to fit Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy in it about 14 times over.
The Lord of the Rings is generally my go-to measuring stick for "long-ass pieces of text", so I must additionally point out that, if written out optimally, about 2 full Lord of the Ringses would fit into one Tumblr post, apparently.
Though I'm not certain if that character count includes spaces, unfortunately, as I got that figure by googling "how many letters are in lord of the rings" and came upon a TikTok that counted the number of letter characters in LotR in order to figure out how many Spaghettios cans would be needed to re-write the entire thing, if one were to cut and paste each individual letter from the cans blackmail-letter style.
For those curious, the numbers are 2,261,081 letters in LotR, which calculates out to 8,795 cans of Spaghettios needed, which would cost about $12,225.

So, those are the theoretical limits, yeah. But in practice, the editor is not even close to be optimized to handle these kinds of huge posts: there is a point, far far away from the size of the lord of the rings, that your browser would just crash.
So if you are planning to post long fanfiction, or anything, you better work on something that's optimized for long form (locally, or some alternative to Google docs) and then post in chunks.
So no, Tumblr is not designed to support these massive posts. It's theoretically possible, but that never was a real scenario we were trying to support

Just an FYI—the original intention of this post was to challenge the way people say only friends, as though friendship is somehow lesser than other forms of love. As if being deeply known, cherished, and chosen by another person could ever be a small thing. Normalize profound platonic love. Some of the most fulfilling, transformative, and enduring relationships we will ever have are friendships. 🫶🏼

I know because growing up poor I would get a couple of things of triple layer nachos off the value menu. A couple of those would fill me up. They were decently sized and had cheese, refried beans, and hot sauce.
Now, for MORE money than I paid for one of those back then, you get a TINY little bag of chips (maybe 1/3 of what you would get back in the day, if that) and a tiny little cup of cheese.
Dont make the mistake of believing the food hasnt changed. It has absolutely has. Its just that instead of getting better, it's gotten much much worse.

If only there was a way to associate a physical length with a number. Like, maybe we could put marks on a long piece of tape or something, evenly spaced, and then you could, like, count how many marks long something is?

people of colour deserve to be able to enjoy fluff and escapism and transformative media and silly fandom stuff the same way that everyone else is allowed to, i think. there’s a lot of unexamined hostility toward anyone who isn’t white; sometimes it’s subtle, and sometimes it’s not. there needs to be far more love and support for poc, and far less defensiveness and tolerance regarding racism in spaces like these.

No guys you don't get it. Lewis succeeded exactly where Michael failed. Micheal went to Mercedes in his early forties to build that team from the ground up, and lost continually to his younger teammate. (before anyone attacks me I'm not negating his skill, just pointing out the truth and yh Lewis was beat by Charles last yr but look where he is now. Micheal never performed this much better than Nico.)
Lewis, meanwhile does pretty much the same thing with Ferrari, the year he joined they were tumbling towards the back of the grid, and he wins a race with them in the next year, sitting second in the standings 41 points ahead of his teammate and one rocketship of a mercedes. He successfully revived Ferrari, a team that hadn't been properly competitive since he joined the sport, in a year's time.
Argue about different eras and rocketship cars biasing statistics all you like, but Lewis' longevity is what truly sets him apart from anyone else in the goat debate. From his first season till today, he has always been at the front of the field, in competition for podiums/wins. 20 years is a long fucking time to stay at the top of an elite sport.
