it’s really cool how L’s theme in the anime alternates between 6/8 and 7/8 time like of course they would do that. compound meter and complex meter making a 🫧ba🫧by. waaowwww.... and it changes meter in the middle of the melodic line... without any theory knowledge you'd be confused trying to pick out the song's meter, just like how most people cannot discern what L is thinking or what he'll try next. even when it does switch to 4/4 for a bit when the guitar starts strumming (the head banging moment) it's heavily syncopated so the meter change is elusive. whereas Light's theme is in common time simple meter which lowkey showcases his black and white thinking. it doesn't change meter or key (L's theme modulates a few times between E natural minor and D natural minor) (kind of yaoically interesting because Light's theme is in D harmonic minor... kind of gay for your theme to briefly share a key signature with another dude's theme) mirroring how solid his ideals are and how they just kind of get stronger over time like he never second guesses himself which contrasts L who second guesses himself a lot

i cant help thinking about how light and L are so fundamentally disconnected from their own bodies,, they’re both just brains that happen to exist within a body. but they show it in opposite ways. Light maintains a perfect appearance simply as a tool because that’s what gets him what he wants and he keeps it up not because he particularly cares about it for his own sake but because without it he logically understands that he loses an advantage. Whereas L disregards his body completely, entirely ignoring it, he only does things that satisfy his mind and pays no attention to in which ways they affect his body, so long as he gets what he wanted. But as dn progresses light starts to act more like L. His plans directly hurt himself, the 50 days of torture and drawing his own blood to write with, but he doesnt care what happens to the body anymore as long as his mind achieves what it wants..

I don't know what the specific terms are, but there's like one group of economists who are math nerds at heart, and they go "whoa, that's weird, I wonder why," and five years later publish a five hundred page thesis that's dense as a brick and says, "yeah man this is fucking unsustainable and is only going to get worse, however it looks like if we weren't putting 99.99% of all resources on earth into sustaining the lives of six people, we'd probably do okay," and no one reads it.

But there's some other group, and when they talk about economics they'll have a great, engaging tone with easy to follow graphs based on easy to locate data, with catchy titles and everything they write is like "not only is the economy getting better all the time, but it's the best it's ever been, and everyone is doing tremendously well, our system has never failed and never will, and looking at these figures we actually need to give even more resources to those six guys."

I think the second group should be put into a burlap sack and drowned.

not nearly enough people are fuming about the cass review. do you understand the eventual implications? trans people in the uk will be considered children up until the age of 25, and denied HRT/surgery/even basic measures like legal name change and social transition. all owing to a biased and largely unscientific study. you know what “treatment” for gender dysphoria is recommended by the review instead? conversion therapy.

this will kill people and they know it, because they prefer us dead and out of sight. the government, the NHS and even the opposition have made this clear again and again. a twenty-five year old can have sex, get married have children, join the military, earn a living, be halfway up the corporate ladder or highly successful in their chosen career field by that age, but they can’t transition under NHS rules. this is a death sentence for trans teenagers and they are going ahead with it. it’s trans genocide, same as across the pond.

i’m so afraid for my trans siblings and our futures. i’m so scared for myself. what are we to do if not even the party that is supposed to be on the “left” gives a shit about our safety and mental health as long as they get voted in? labour have become tories with a red coat of paint. it all feels hopeless

Okay this is a popular one but lemme just put together a list of reasons based on the Death Note Anime because this headcanon is so fricking exciting to me!! Feel free to add more.

-Speaks in a monotone voice

-Ignores common social rules of interaction, talks in a very blunt manner (“Matsuda, YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOT!!!”). Not necessarily obscene but sort of macabre language?

-On occasion, extremely good at empathizing, hence he can often be several steps ahead of Kira.

-Strong morals and sense of justice. Well, questionable morals at times, but strong nonetheless.

-Literally only wears one outfit consisting of a baggy shirt & jeans.

-NEVER WEARS SOCKS. Shoes only when absolutely necessary.

-The way he sits, with his legs up. Iconic. He says it helps him think. (Sitting a certain way for specific sensory input? Absolutely a thing.)

-Constantly fidgeting.

-Holds things “weirdly” (phone, paper). Dyspraxia?

-Can only eat certain foods. Literally. The anime only shows him eat sweets, snacks, and the occasional strawberry or banana. Drinks basically only tea with loads of sugar. Probably can’t handle savoury or spicy foods at all?

-Possibly has joint hypermobility or similar collagen defects (which are common-ish in autistic people). Could be the cause of his extremely pale skin, the permanent dark circles under his eye, bad posture and also another reason for him to sit his usual way.

- 24/7 fixated on the Kira case.

-Special Interests in crime solving (he solves cases on an international level under multiple pseudos!!) and especially the Kira case.

Adding to the last point. He only takes cases that interest him. If he doesn’t find a case interesting, he leaves it for other detectives. We really only saw the Kira case but this was his stated policy.

Could the scene where Aizawa yelling at him and then touching him be another clue? Because after he touched him L was then shaking and was more clenched into himself than usual. :o

Yes, that really stands out here! When people touch him, he possibly feels threatened, because he’s not the person exerting control over the situation and this makes him anxious (enough to start shaking like that), or it may cause sensory overload. The former makes more sense when we consider the scene where Light touches his shoulder; everything with Light feels within his control, so it does not make him nervous. Light is chained to him, under surveillance, and accompanied by others more often than not. It could also be that he trusts Light more, and like some people with autism, it is then acceptable for them to touch you because it feels safe (I know that seems like a weird concept if he’s Kira though).

Another example of his problem with contact is L File No.15 where he uses self-defense to stop people trying to hug him, because he thinks they’re attacking him:

It’s like when he doesn’t understand the intentions behind physical contact, it’s not under control and makes him nervous. (I’d also like to make a note that he also takes up an interest in problem solving activities, as shown in the second panel, which can indicate a high IQ - another trait which can be found with autism (but more so with aspergers, from what I know))

The lets-Light-touch-him thing sounds very familiar haha uncontrolled physical contact is exactly the right word, and kind of applies to all kinds of sensory input.

(the IQ thing can apply to anyone on the autism spectrum, but people with “"obviously high”“ IQs are more likely to be diagnosed with Aspergers than with autism (but since they’re both Autism Spectrum Disorder now, that’s becoming more of a functioning labels issue) and playing by himself as a kid is also a pretty common autistic experience)
