I'm at the depression hut
I'm at the anxiety bell
I'm at the combination depression hut / anxiety bell
So my sister is on vacation and has sent me a photo of the store she was buying clothes in.
I'm going to lose it.
Yesterday my little brother told me something very sweet and touching, that when he was a kid and had nightmares about monsters chasing him or whatever he would be able to end the nightmare by finding me in the dream and I would protect him by fighting off the zombies, or carrying him away. This is adorable, and makes me feel like the greatest older sibling in the world, but the hilarious thing is that when I was a kid I had nightmares of needing to save him from zombies and such. so many dreams where he was in trouble and I needed to save him. Like my nightmares began where his ended. Low key I think he mastered the ability to psychically transfer his nightmare to me as a child and I'm kind of annoyed with him.
You two were having an ongoing portal fantasy adventure together in your dreams and wrote the whole thing off as nightmares
you tell a bitch to keep their cat indoors and suddenly their town is the first in the world to have eradicated every viral, bacterial and parasitic disease, they invented completely harmless cars, dogs and predators dont exist either but somehow the native songbird population is fine since the cats in this place have lost the hunting instinct, there's no pollutants or toxic plants and human cruelty has ceased to exist. and mr mittens has a chip in his brain that will explode if he doesnt go outside 10 hours of the day
It is for this specific reason that I CANNOT post on our local Facebook group. Every few days there's a post from someone new that that is basically "has anyone seen our outdoor cat? 1.5 years old, usually comes home every day for dinner but we haven't seen him this week. Has someone thought him a stray and brought him inside? Just let him out, he knows where he lives!" and I have to shut the app down to prevent myself from responding .
We live in the country! We have coyotes you stupid asshole! Every night I can hear them in the trees across the street eviscerating rabbits, why do you think your cat can outsmart and outrun a whole pack of them? We also have cars! Parasites! Hawks! People who let their dogs free-roam on their property! People setting out poison! Crop spraying! Active cargo train tracks! If you don't want to be in this cycle of getting a new cat after the old one goes missing several times a year, THEN MAYBE KEEP YOUR CAT INDOORS! And if you don't want to or can't afford keeping your cat up to date on shots, getting it fixed or cleaning a litter box, you don't actually need to have a cat! You can just not have a cat! Nobody is forcing you to repeatedly get new free barn kittens to neglect, you can just get a pet that is more suitable to your circumstances or not have one at all!
Also, to add, because I saw this in the tags:
Farm cats are just as susceptible to being predated upon by coyotes and hawks, getting parasites and also rabies since they are direclty interacting with vermin. Their rates of actually catching and consuming mice are also up for debate.
If you desperately need to control vermin population in a farm scenario, you are better off getting and training a rat terrier who will hunt and kill vermin and bring them to you to be rewarded rather than eat them, are infinitely more trainable and have actual recall, and can be trained to leave smaller livestock like chickens alone the same way you train guardian breeds to not fuck with your chickens. You can also keep them indoors at night during coyote hours and let your guardian dog be in charge.
I know some rescues will adopt out working cats, usually ferals that will not do well indoors, but giving them a fancy title will not keep them safe. If they are outdoors, they're exactly as safe as any other outdoor cat in the area who doesn't have a job, which is to say not at all. Are they safer in the country than in the city where they are more likely to be pancake by a car, just by virtue of there being less traffic? Sure. But it's still not good for them, or your local songbird or turtle hatchling populations.
The really tricky part is that, no matter your viewpoint, there is no outcome where your outdoor cat isn’t negatively impacting the ecosystem. Even if you take good care of them otherwise, even if your area is ‘safe’, even if they’re a working cat.
Also i wanna add, my family (including me) was the type to go "well they've been going out all their lives we can't just stop letting them out, they'll get depressed" and like, you can.
My cat got really hurt one day, we have no idea what happened and i immediately said "no more" and forbade anyone from letting her out ever again. Yeah, she asked to be let out for the next two weeks, but guess what? She stopped. I got her more toys, I took the time to play with her more often, i got bigger litter boxes and had grass on pots on my room.
She's fine, she's absolutely fine and she only asks to be let out if she sees birds on the porch. So no, your cat won't be depressed to be inside, you just have to put in the effort to properly care for them in this new condition, and if you think that's too much work then you simply don't care about your cat, because if you love your cat as much as you claim, you will make the effort
Anyways look at the princess in question:

Have some bounderies!
Yes, i made these, pfehehe!
I think it's important to remember, as a rule of thumb, if you take advantage of a social service, it actually makes it easier for other people who need that service to access it. Most of the time, when these services get cut, it's because politicians will look at usage and say "see, no one is really using this thing, we can afford to trim the budget for food stamps by at least half". Whereas if you decide to step up and use these programs, even if you feel like you "don't really need it", at bare minimum it's another data point advocates can use to say "hey, look, people are using this thing, this is an important service we are providing, do not cut our funding".
I work at a nonprofit, and it is absolutely wild explaining to folks that being part of a program that reduces their energy bill actually helps us get funding to help even more people get energy bill savings.
You aren’t taking resources from anyone by using programs you qualify for. You are making a case for those programs being important enough to continue to exist and (in many cases) grow.
We live in a world so controlled by the idea of resource scarcity that we reason "If I get help, that must be taking help away from someone else!"
The US wastes BILLIONS of dollars giving subsidies to corporations already making BILLIONS, they turn around and use it to buy back their own stock to get bonuses and give to shareholders
that's how nuts this all is
The US has all the money it needs to feed and house everyone, and chooses not to
so fucking use every program out there, you pay the taxes, BENEFIT from them for fucks sake
I’m 33, disabled, still fighting for disability, but my parents have been paying my necessities for me, so I applied for food stamps because it took one form of financial burden from falling to my parents.
gps but for a way out of this
#it just says “through” :(
In Prince's funky name, amen.

It's actually kinda mesmerizing how the popular sentiment around visual novels is that they simultaneously have no gameplay, and also are too hard to get into.
Imagine the looks you’d get if you said books were an inherently shitty medium, because there’s too many words and reading is hard.
"Book fans after they turn pages for 20 hours! Like seriously, imagine finding that entertaining!" - guy who would somehow be uncontroversial if he was talking about electronic entertainment
What's absolutely nuts about how little respect visual novels get is that people are just completely ignorant about basic features that are practically standard for every game ever released.
If you like playthroughs with no commentary, if you're fine with reading, but don't like the proverbial "pressing A for 20 hours", then did you know that practically every VN ever has an auto-mode?
The textboxes automatically advance after a short wait, and you can 9 times out of 10 go to the settings and change the speed at which the textboxes auto-advance, to perfectly tune it to how fast you can read.
Most visual novels you could care to name will have this feature. But if your favorite visual novel is Class of 09 you might not have realized how industry-standard this option is, because that game advertises auto-mode as a feature on its Steam page, as though it's something unique!
Even though, and this is the fucking kicker, Class of 09 was developed in Ren'Py, a python-based visual novel engine where auto-mode is included in every VN made in it by default!
But because Class of 09 is marketed as a visual novel for people who hate visual novels, it can afford to market itself not based on any actual history and knowledge about VNs, but against the lowest common denominator stereotype of what people who don't know any better think a visual novel is.
It's easy money, and all you have to do is have an underlying contempt for the medium you're trying to develop for.

Like we know Biden would never but God imagine if he just had Trump assassinated as an official act right now and then resigned from office. What would SCotUS even do.
Like you can't impeach him, he's resigned. You can't prosecute him, that was an official act as God-President. You can't even turn the precedent over, you just fucking set it. Joe just goes home and lives out his remaining year retired from the public eye and gets to watch the chaos unfold on TV.
this reads like a bonkers end to some novel where the author write themself into a corner
Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #24
June 21-28 2024
The US Surgeon General declared for the first time ever, firearm violence a public health crisis. The nation's top doctor recommended the banning of assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, the introduce universal background checks for purchasing guns, regulate the industry, pass laws that would restrict their use in public spaces and penalize people who fail to safely store their weapons. President Trump dismissed Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy in 2017 in part for his criticism of guns before his time in government, he was renominated for his post by President Biden in 2021. While the Surgeon General's reconstructions aren't binding a similar report on the risks of smoking in 1964 was the start of a national shift toward regulation of tobacco.
Vice-President Harris announced the first grants to be awarded through a ground breaking program to remove barriers to building more housing. Under President Biden more housing units are under construction than at any time in the last 50 years. Vice President Harris was announcing 85 million dollars in grants giving to communities in 21 states through the Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO) program. The administration plans another 100 million in PRO grants at the end of the summer and has requested 100 million more for next year. The Treasury also announced it'll moved 100 million of left over Covid funds toward housing. All of this is part of plans to build 2 million affordable housing units and invest $258 billion in housing overall.
President Biden pardoned all former US service members convicted under the US Military's ban on gay sex. The pardon is believed to cover 2,000 veterans convicted of "consensual sodomy". Consensual sodomy was banned and a felony offense under the Uniform Code of Justice from 1951 till 2013. The Pardon will wipe clean those felony records and allow veterans to apply to change their discharge status.
The Department of Transportation announced $1.8 Billion in new infrastructure building across all 50 states, 4 territories and Washington DC. The program focuses on smaller, often community-oriented projects that span jurisdictions. This award saw a number of projects focused on climate and energy, like $25 million to help repair damage caused by permafrost melting amid higher temperatures in Alaska, or $23 million to help electrify the Downeast bus fleet in Maine.
The Department of Energy announced $2.7 billion to support domestic sources of nuclear fuel. The Biden administration hopes to build up America's domestic nuclear fuel to allow for greater stability and lower costs. Currently Russia is the world's top exporter of enriched uranium, supplying 24% of US nuclear fuel.
The Department of Interior awarded $127 million to 6 states to help clean up legacy pollution from orphaned oil and gas wells. The funding will help cap 600 wells in Alaska, Arizona, Indiana, New York and Ohio. So far thanks to administration efforts over 7,000 orphaned wells across the country have been capped, reduced approximately 11,530 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions
HUD announced $469 million to help remove dangerous lead from older homes. This program will focus on helping homeowners particularly low income ones remove lead paint and replace lead pipes in homes built before 1978. This represents one of the largest investments by the federal government to help private homeowners deal with a health and safety hazard.
Bonus: President Biden's efforts to forgive more student debt through his administration's SAVE plan hit a snag this week when federal courts in Kansas and Missouri blocked elements the Administration also suffered a set back at the Supreme Court as its efforts to regular smog causing pollution was rejected by the conservative majority in a 5-4 ruling that saw Amy Coney Barrett join the 3 liberals against the conservatives. This week's legal setbacks underline the importance of courts and the ability to nominate judges and Justices over the next 4 years.
