inseparable as apprentices, it was pretty obvious to the whole clan that they were gonna be mates. they were very happy together, often getting into trouble together and known for pulling pranks on their clanmates. they eventually had a litter of four kits together: thymekit, burdockkit, hollowkit and patchkit!

they lived pretty normally until......... the apprentice den collapsed in. as dimclan dens are housed in decrepit, crumbling cabins, something like this was inevitable, unfortunately. anthill had rushed to try to help his kits, but he was too late, and ended up getting badly injured trying to get them out from under the planks of decaying wood. thymepaw, burdockpaw and hollowpaw had been crushed while patchpaw was safely sleeping in the medicine cat den, as she had already started her training with weaselsnout.

gingerdrop was never the same after this incident. her grief was so terrible, she convinced herself that anthill had died with her three kits, despite the fact that he had eventually recovered. anthill tried desperately to get gingerdrop to realize he was still alive, but she mistook him for a lingering ghost, reminding her of her loses. he eventually gave up, resolving to spent most of his time away from camp and out of gingerdrop's line of sight for her mental well being.

her mother incapacitated with grief and her father gone most of the time, patchpaw took it upon herself to do absolutely everything she could to try to fix the situation. she threw herself into her apprenticeship, growing very close to her mentor weaselsnout as she coped.
