This is the best description Iâve heard for this method, I always thought it was bullshit because I never heard a description that actually explained how to do this other than âtap your head 20 timesâ.
I have anxiety-induced hissing, which sounds/feels different from sound-induced tinnitus (which I have also experience). Sound-based tinnitus actually sounds like youâre âhearingâ something in your ears, whilst the hissing I have feels like itâs âinside my headâ, if that makes sense. But this technique still helps!!

Here's my real tip for anyone moving out on their own for the first time; when you buy a set of measuring cups or spoons buy ones that have the measurement engraved into the cup/spoon and do NOT buy ones where it's just printed on. Because that ink/paint/ect. can rub off and then you'll have a bunch of useless little spoons and cups you have to get rid of bcs they no longer say what size they are. context: these are not trash cans for pedestrians to throw their food wrappers and whatnot in, nyc already has plenty of those. these are trash transfer bins for buildings. up till now, the official procedure for the enormous volume of trash generated inside all of nyc's tall buildings was to package it in big black plastic trash bags and pile it on the sidewalk for the trash collection trucks to collect. people have been talking about installing collection dumpsters for decades and i guess mamdani's finally getting it done.
in case you're wondering why the hell anyone would object to not having stinky plastic trash bags piled high on the street at least twice a week every week, or to making the trash collectors' work go faster and be less dangerous, it's because the plastic trash bags get piled on the sidewalk and the bins, as you can see from the picture, will permanently occupy spaces formerly used as street parking.

In a lot of northern Indian Buddhist art, Hercules is depicted as the Buddhaâs bodyguard.Â
This tradition of depicting Hercules as Buddhaâs bodyguard started in the Greco-Bactrian kingdom of Gandhara, a part of Northern India conquered by Alexander the Great. This is important because Gandhara just happens to be the place Buddhism spread to the far east (itâs âthe westâ in the famous Chinese novel Journey to the West).Â
Hercules acquired a scary, bestial mien and thunderbolt swords in Asia via association with Buddhist guardian monsters, the Vajrapani, who had the traditional job of protecting the Buddha. Hercules and the Vajrapani were confused with each other and traits of one rubbed off on the other. This slowly transformed him into a thunderer all the way to Japan and Vietnam.
So in essence, these Buddhist temple guard statues found as far away as Vietnam and Japan started as statues of Hercules. Thatâs why the original illustration is so fascinating to me; depicting Hercules as monster-like and fierce-faced with a double-weapon.
