It’s summer, it’s hot, where do you want to be?? The deep sea babbyyyy We teamed up with Philly Spooky Guy Illustrator Sam Heimer to create a firefly squid shirt with a message: protect the ocean... OR ELSE!
You can get ‘em at SquidFacts.Net. The beautiful and enigmatic firefly squid arrives to shallow water off the West Coast of Japan in Spring, engages in a mating bonanza, and then leave the seas for the next generation. They are brightly bioluminescent, so **this shirt glows too***!!! The back of the shirts have a list of actions people can take to protect the ocean.
As with everything on the Squid Facts Shop, this shirt supports science education nonprofit Skype a Scientist
I picked up squid shirts today and the glow in the dark aspect is SO FUN
Get one at SquidFacts.net
Hey, eat your pills and also some food (if you have food). Nutritious stuff is best, of course, but do what you can.
Drink some water.
Move your body around some if you are able. (Don’t overdo it.)
Think of at least three things you like about yourself. They don’t have to be big things.
If you can get out under that bright shiny ball of fire in the sky for a bit without fucking yourself up, try and do that for a little bit.
That shit you keep meaning to do? Appointments, shopping, whatever? Try to get through at least one step of it. You’ll feel like a fucking superhero.
Reward yourself by doing something that makes you happy. If nothing can make you happy today, try something that USUALLY makes you happy. Watch a Star War or meme something or whatever normally gets your rocks off.
Counting your own breaths while imagining yourself in the most peaceful fucking place you can think of is a great way to calm down if you’re able to focus enough to do so.
Is your mood shitty? I’m sorry to hear that, friend, and I hope you feel better soon, but that’s no excuse to be shitty to other people, dig? If you’re shitty to someone who didn’t deserve it, fucking apologize. Mental illness might be the reason you went off, but it’s not an excuse.
If you didn’t/couldn’t do some or any of the above today, there’s always tomorrow.
However much things might suck right now, THIS MOMENT IS NOT FOREVER.
Friendly reminder that I believe in you.
Rock this world, and make it tremble with your passing.
If you can’t bring yourself to care for yourself for your own sake, then remember that space mom Carrie Fisher would want you to. You’re worth it, but it doesn’t always feel that way, so if the only way you can motivate yourself is to think of how things affect your pets or loved ones or whatever, hey, that’s a valid tool in your kit. Use it if you need it.
Also, try to get wharever rest you need.
no you do not need to hold fictional characters "accountable". they are not real.

we have to write poems in my creative writing certificate program, so I pieced something together from Belphie's medical reports
my professor really liked this and said that it should be 'the nucleus of a chapbook' (so like 15-30 poems of the same theme that I would attempt to get published) but now I feel awkward because I think that she thinks HE DIED? but it turns out, everything will be alright! his heart recovered! the FIP meds are working!
if I do make a chapbook, this will be the next page:
and then this will be the page after that:
I couldn't believe how fast he went from death's door to running and playing once we got the GS441525 into him. I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who's spent their time researching and legislating it!!
Belphie is over two years old now, and sometimes when I look at him, I still think he lived.

today's potentially cold take is that a whole lot of people in fandom have a 'skinny fetish' and just don't call it that because they don't realise that's what it is
to elaborate: a lot of what people call "sexual preferences" are really just fetishes without the subversive element. liking big boobs is a preference, but liking really, really big boobs is a fetish. having a thing for hands is a preference, but having a thing for feet is a fetish. being attracted to skinny girls is a preference, but being attracted to fat girls is a fetish. and so on.
i've read a lot of literature that tackles eating disorders and body dysmorphia. but one of the most triggering things i've ever read was a fic in which one of the characters was very thin, and the narrator was constantly waxing lyrical about how beautiful his thinness was - describing his prominent ribs, his delicate collarbones, his tiny wrists, how frail and breakable he looked, how small his waist was. at one point the love interest casually said he'd break up with him if he ever got fat and it was just skimmed over as a cute bit of banter, like that's not a completely insane thing to say even as a joke.
if the character had been overweight this would have absolutely been classed as a fetish fic. but it wasn't. it had tens of thousands of hits - it was one of the most popular works in that fandom. someone in the comments requested that some content warnings be added, as they had an ED and had found it distressing to read. they were ignored. the fic stayed untagged.
and like, that's an intense example, but it's absolutely not an outlier. i've read tons of fics where the author takes a character with a canonically average-to-slender build and portrays them as borderline emaciated, with constant commentary on how fragile and delicate they look and exchanges about how they need to eat more. (contrast with "fat fetish" or "belly kink" fics, which from what i've seen are always appropriately tagged and described; you're never going to stumble into one of those by accident.) once you start noticing it you see it everywhere. anyway i think fanartists and writers should start taking skinny characters and making them fat, just to balance things out. it's equality :)

is it weird to wish nudism was normalized purely because I'm curious what my friend's dicks look like?
not like in a sexual way, just because I think it's be interesting
she gets it!!
Not that I would mind if it was sexual though...
truly one of the most upsetting things to hear in pretty much any context is "i'm used to it"
let's hear some flat affected cheers and listless applause from the anhedonic crowd
“…use things to have good days.”

it feels really classless to say that remembering that charlie kirk died badly makes you smile and laugh but ill power through. ill say it
how it feels remembering charlie kirk got shot in the neck and bled out and died and his legacy is reduced to a joke
Something nobody told me about caffeine is that you can get withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking it
Like
I went from consuming NO caffeine, to slowly escalating to around 150-300mg of caffeine a day to keep up with sleep issues, to suddenly stopping cold turkey when I flew out to the middle of nowhere and couldn’t get more and it was straight up a solid 5-6 days of thinking I had the flu
Nausea, spins, major fatigue, and some seriously heinous headaches
It was so bad that after two weeks without I swore I’d never pick up an energy drink again and made an appointment with a doctor to fix my sleep issues
Like. Not to be all “oooooh your body is a temple” but if I knew quitting CAFFEINE had similar effects as running out of my prescription meds I might have been a bit more careful drinking it in the first place
I'm sorry. My soapbox has been activated.
Caffeine is a
Drug
And don't get me wrong, I love drugs. I think they're rad. I think there should be fewer barriers between most drugs and adults using them.
However, something that I think is fundamentally immoral is giving someone a drug without telling them:
That it's a drug
What the full possible effects of the drug are including side effects
What the withdrawal effects are like
And society treats caffeine like it's not a drug. We act like it's not a stimulant. We sell it on street corners. We sell in schools, to children.
We don't tell you what the withdrawals are like. We don't even acknowledge that there will be any, even though they can be severe.
In addition to what OP listed, other possible withdrawal symptoms include:
Hand Tremors
Anxiety
Irritability
Brain Fog
Low Mood
Insomnia (yes, counterintuitive as it may seem this is common withdrawal symptom)
Muscle Pain/Stiffness
Caffeine is a stimulant drug that causes physical dependency quite rapidly. The withdrawal symptoms can persist for days to months.
I reiterate that I think drugs are cool. I'm drinking a caffeinated beverage as I type this. But I feel strongly that we should treat drugs like they're drugs. We should not pretend that the legality of a substance negates its status as A Drug™
All things are coolest when they're used wisely and with understanding.
This is another place we hide all the "nobody used to have ADHD" people, like yeah, sure, nobody had ADHD because they used to self-medicate with a pack of cigarettes and three pots of coffee a day! It is maybe actually safer to hand out the regulated and dosed amphetamines to people who need them!
