chaque fois que j'ouvre la bouche pour parler : si cela a du sens ?
To everyone who is learning a new language, knows more than one language, what do you do when you say you know/are learning a language and people ask you to speak it or say a sentence?
i just say a simple sentence
*sigh* what do you want me to sayâŚ
iâm just not that good yet
đâđź *disappears*
oh, ofc! what should i say?
i may not sound good but⌠*still saying sth because why not*
maybe in twenty years, iâll manage to form a sentence đđđź
iâve started learning it recently, so i donât want to :)
oh, i donât think if i can⌠*says the most gramatically correct sentence ever*
something else (let me know in the tags)
please reblog everyone!! iâm very curious đ
Okay, so I definitely agree with the people who advise writers that bilingual people donât randomly switch languages when talking to people, or âforget to switchâ when around people who only speak x language and not y
But do any other bilingual people ever mutter in a combination to themselves?
I just grumbled at my database âMr. Alfonso, dĂłnde the fuck are you?â
Other people please tell me you also do this. đ¤Łđ¤Ł

no language should be mocked other than french
Birds is âoiseauxâ in French.
No letter is pronunced the way it should.
And there are seven of them.
ITS PRONOUNCED âWAZOâ AND YES, I WILL DIE MAD ABOUT IT
oiseaux hits every vowel in the french alphabet and manages to only be pronounced with 2 goddamn syllables
got vowels coming out the oiseaux
Sometimes I'm just reading something in a language different from my mother tongue, whether is an article for college, a book, fanfic or simply a post here and I'm stuck with the fact that I'm indeed understanding it. And I stand there like holy shit I can understand this, I'm reading it and it makes sense and I know how to modify that sentence to make it easier or harder to understand, or could name a few synonyms for that word and even antonyms and is so so amazing like our mind are amazing, we can!! learn!! so !! many !! writing systems !! and!! sentence structure !! and!! grammar !! and !! vocabulary!! and whole ass LANGUAGES!!
For all my bilingual/multilingual babes:
Does your voice change when you speak English? Like my voice is a tone lower in English and even becomes a bit hoarse?
But then I speak Spanish and I'm Dora the explorer's big sisterđ¤Śđťââď¸
being bilingual is all fun and games until you're trying to write something in your native language but your brain keeps giving you scenes in your second language and you're like "this is NOT what I ordered"
Had a nightmare in Portuguese and woke up agitated at 3am thinking in full French. Turned on the bed and saw I had a message. I spent the next 5 minutes staring at my cellphone trying to make sense of what seemed like nonsensical keymashing -until I realised I was trying to understand Spanish with an English focused brain. I just, what
truly, what
(native language is Spanish btw lmao)

a question for my fellow bilinguals/multilinguals/polyglots:
does your brain ever get (temporarily) stuck in one language, and you have to kind of recalibrate it (idk how else to describe it lol)??
Yes
No
Iâm monolingual/show results
i ended up liking how gendered french is solely because i can say that i want people to use he/him pronouns for me the same way they use it for angels, blood and blunts
exactly! use she/her for me the same way u might use it for wrath (la colère divine), moon (la lune), and electricity (l'ÊlectricitÊ).
ââ¨french is so sexyâ¨â
âđđ french is the language of love đđâ
âđ¸ the french language is so beautiful đ¸â
WRONG. Look me in the eyes. Regardez-moi dans les yeux. Iâm so so serious right now. SPEAKING AS A FRANCOPHONE, French sounds like a dog hacking up a piece of plastic. Listen to me say ÂŤÂ ĂŠcureuil￟￟  and then tell me French is sexy pls Iâm begging you
People think being bilingual is having fluency in two languages, when the reality is that itâs the ability to speak two languages as broken as possible.

I know this is a rly basic idea, but itâs honestly so wild to me that the brain works like this. Like, I will be struggling for words in my second language, confused and frustrated, and then I listen to someone speak in that language for 10 mins and itâs as though it unlocks a vault in my mind and Iâm back to being fluent. Like huH???
God bilingual people are so cool. I'd love to be bilingual someday.
"Aren't you alrea--" Shut the fuck up I've never spoken any language in my life
The thing people don't understand is that mathematically speaking, being slightly bilingual actually makes you LESS bilingual than people who are monolingual. I've created a helpful chart to assist:
This is known as the I'd Rather Die Than Attempt to Converse With A Native Speaker paradox, and it has befuddled scholars for centuries
monolingual: an idiot in one language
bilingual: and a fucking moron in a second
