Finished Les Trois Mousquetaires while I was at it and honestly I'm gonna have to read the sequels to feel anything but nonplussed over these characters.

No-one has that much time to shine with the rush the intrigue is on. D’Artagnan does and I like (most of) him, but other than that I swear my favorites are by default Planchet and Milady bc nobody else gets to do or say much shit (except Athos, who categorically refuses to say shit unless dead drunk).

Very pleasing read however. The rhythm worked for me and Dumas is very easy to get through (in French at least).

Dreaming of a video game where you play a modern-day version of this where Milady is a whistleblower abt to expose a politician for profit and the musketeers are some sort of agents trying to thwart her àd protect said politician in the name of stability (unclear who's on the right side of this petty private business with likely international repercussions. You can play as both parties and winning gets you different, equally not that great endings).
