Nothing against IWTV when it was good (I haven't seen it but I'll get around to it), but there is a little bit of. Idk if I'd call it "schadenfreude" cuz I don't like what went wrong with the show, but there's a lil bitter irony that makes me giggle, in regards to people reacting to people disappointed at WWDITS going downhill by going "serves you right for still holding on this long, when you shoulda hopped trains to the actually good gay vampire show instead", just for the other gay vampire show to also go downhill. When are we going to learn not to hitch our whole identities onto television shows produced by studios who don't give a shittttt abt anything but revenue. No matter how well-intentioned the original writing team is, studios simply will not allow a good show to stay that way.
Also it's a human right to complain abt tv shows you won't stop watching. You just can't act like your tv show is above reproach if you're annoyed at other people's shows.

Something I absolutely love is not caving into the pressure of "you HAVE to watch popular gay show the writing is actually competent and they won't ruin it this time" and being like "hmmm I don't know... I watched popular gay show before and it turned bad..." only to much later get your door knocked on and it's your mutuals crestfallen and you get to be like "let me guess. it turned bad."

It's wild to watch the phrase "tumblr sexyman" morph into "man that tumblr thinks is sexy," because when I first saw the phrase come into use, I always saw it used in reference to the phenomenon of "when presented with a wide array of fictional characters, tumblr will always pick the skinny white man to obsess over, and if the fan-favorite character has no canonical human appearance, the fandom will inevitably create a popular fanon of the character as as a skinny white man."
When I hear "tumblr sexyman," I think of Cecil Night Vale being constantly depicted as a skinny white man instead of literally anything else. I think of the background character white men who get elevated over protagonists that are women, people of color, or otherwise not the white man power fantasy.
"Tumblr sexyman" is, like. An insult. I DON'T want any of my blorbos to win a "tumblr sexyman" poll. "Tumblr sexyman" is the exact opposite of what I want my own OCs to be. If any of my characters ever get called "tumblr sexyman," I will have to immediately re-evaluate myself and the art I'm making.
