See the thing about the whole Claude AI exposing document thing is that as great as it sounds in theory, I can see how this leads to even more harassment and witch hunts in practice.
People have said the tag is unique to Claude only and therefore there’s no way a human-made fic could have gotten wrongly flagged as AI. But how accurate and trustworthy worthy this is, really? Even IF, hypothetically, this method is proved correct 99 times out of 100, that still means “there is 1 time out of 100 times where a human-made fic is wrongly flagged as AI due to an error”. And that to me nullified the credibility of the whole doc. Like, sorry for not trusting another newly-introduced machine and for being skeptical about it.
“But how could the tag get there if the author didn’t use AI?” Besides the possibility of an error, I can already see people weaponize this method by faking screenshots of fics that are about the ships or topics that they hate to make it look like these fics have Claude tag in them, and then spreading those fake screenshots around. And the worst part is that authors cannot prove their innocence because people would just say “they got caught so now they removed the Claude tag from their fics”.
Like. I hate AI, but I hate witch hunts, accusations and harassments more.
These comments below sum it up really well.
It's very telling that people will argue to hell and back against any and all possible flaws of this thing because this AI detector is 100% totally infallible this time trust me bro, but every single "flaw" in a fic that has been sern in AI texts MUST mean the writer was 100% totally using AI to write this trust me bro.
Almost like the people who claim they want to avoid actually want the opposite. They spend so much time and effort to try to detect AI that they could be spending reading because... idk actually. Maybe it's another weird purity thing where you're eternally tainted by seeing something "bad." Maybe they're addicted to the rush of feeling morally superior for five seconds on the internet and have discovered a new way to fill that hole.
It's so painfully clear that they want to find as much AI as possible for some reason. These are not people engaging with fandom for fun, they're here to destroy.
And if you, dear reader, engage in this behavior and for some reason genuinely believe you're doing a good thing, take a step back and take a good hard look at why you're more preoccupied with detecting perceived AI to the point of driving the actual real creators you claim you want to protect out of fandom, instead of investing all that effort into supporting those creators.
What if someone simply changes the background on their AO3 site skin to red, takes a screenshot of a fic, and then posts it as an "exposed AI fic" to harass other writers?
For example, antis posting screenshots of dark fics because they feel entitled to do whatever it takes to get a work taken down or avoided.
I don't think anything good comes from those AI-tracking site skins.
Even if someone used AI, maybe it wasn't generative AI at all — maybe it was just AI assistance, like a grammar checker or translation help. Yet they still get flagged as "AI." And that shouldn't happen.
If someone writes their own fic, uses their own ideas, but isn't a native English speaker and needs help with translation or grammer, they get treated the same as someone who typed a prompt into AI, had it write the entire story, and then posted it as their own work. And those are not the same thing.
Sure, people will argue that they should just get a beta reader. But not everyone feels comfortable having a beta reader.
Instead of witch-hunting and turning our backs on fellow shippers, we should focus on making fandom spaces a positive place again.
If someone feels uncomfortable reading a fic, suspects it was written with AI, or even knows that it was written by — or with the help of — AI, they should just click back out and move on.
Mute writers. Block writers. Don't harass and expose them because you have a problem with what they do in their free time as a hobby.
It's not like they cheated on a job application or are getting paid for their work. This is fandom. It's supposed to be about having fun.
If someone has fun typing a prompt into AI and getting a story out of it — let them. You (not you personally, the general "you") don't have to like it. You don't have to read it. You don't have to engage with it.
Just stop with this red-flagging shitshow.
If someone uses the site skin so they can avoid reading AI fics, fine. But everything else that comes with the use of that site skin does far more damage to fandom and fanfiction spaces than the AI fics themselves.
I'm honestly tired of opening fandom spaces and seeing everything turn into arguments, accusations, callout posts, and harassment campaigns. It's exhausting. Fandom used to be about sharing what you loved. Now it sometimes feels like people are more interested in policing each other than creating things.
(Sending this anon for obvious reasons.)
assuming this is about the document that can flag if a fic was copied and pasted from claude
—> this post <— also sums it up really well.
I think it’s great if there’s a tool that can tell for absolute accuracy if a fic is ai (not just 99.99% accurate but 100% accurate, and so far I’m not completely sure if a glitch or an error won’t make a human-made fic turn red somehow, or if it won’t make the tag show up in a human-made fic somehow, I’m not tech savvy and I don’t really trust any newly introduced machine) without opening a door for witch hunt and harassment. and unfortunately as helpful as this new ao3 skin may be, it’s also led to dozens (or hundreds, or more) of people being doxxed and harassed.
no, I am not a fan of ai fics, but I will never condone harassment. and like you said, at the end of the day fanfic is a hobby, and how one chooses to spend their free time is none of my business. do I agree with an ai writer who chooses to let ai write fics for them? no. but that is not my business and it certainly doesn’t mean I think they deserve to be harassed.
not to mention how easy it is for someone to fake a screenshot of a human-made fic, that has no claude tag in it, to make it look like it has claude tag in it and then spread the screenshot around. and the author can’t even prove their innocence because people will just say “you removed the tag after you got caught”.
one more thing, I actually think people are more scared of having accidentally read and supported an ai-generated fic, and therefore they are no longer “morally pure”, than they care about the ethical aspects of ai and how it can be harmful, and I say this as someone who does not like ai-generated fics and will avoid them if they’re properly tagged. if I read a fic that is not tagged as ai and if I suspect it was done by ai, I’ll just quietly exit the fic. but I don’t think I’ll be using that skin — because 1. I don’t know if a glitch or an error could result in a false positive somehow 2. if I choose to use the skin to see if my suspicion is right and if the fic turns red, then I will never stop using it (even though I’d never harass anyone). and reading fanfics is a form of self-care to me, and like, I want to read them because I am actually enjoying them and having fun. I don’t want to constantly be paranoid about accidentally exposing myself to ai-generated fics. that’s not what self-care and having fun are supposed to be.
so if you (general you) want to use the skin, then good for you (as long as you don’t harass anybody). but me, personally, I choose to enjoy art the exact same way I’ve been enjoying it for years, back when gen ai wasn’t a thing — by really letting myself have fun without ai paranoia or witch hunt. if I’ve accidentally read and supported an ai-generated fic, without knowing that it’s ai, then I will never have to know that. and the joy I feel when I read the fic stays with me forever.
(last time I talked about this, I said it was gonna be the last time. so I intend for this to really be the last time I talk about it, unless something else happens. any future asks about this topic may not be answered.)

The Good Place Chapter 38: Chidi Sees the Time-Knife
Yes I know you mistrust the banks, milord, and I don't blame you, but their Vault Wizards are specially trained to prevent dragons from detecting large amounts of gold. I cannot emphasize enough that it's a full-time job employing multiple specialists, I'm not trying to be humble here but it's not something that just the court magician and I can set up a couple wards for on the weekends and call it good.
It's, it's just that dragons are the primordial embodiment of avarice wrought into fire and flesh. They are truly, supernaturally good at finding large amounts of valuables, that's why the big mines hire those Dragon Scouts to go sniff out their lairs and mark them on the maps as potential mining ventures. You know, in case someone slays the relevant dragon. Which doesn't happen often because, milord, they are simply not that easily slain.
No I know you've hired many knights, blooded warriors and true. Yes, I was there when you gave the ten most impressive ones their special sashes. Very grand, very high honors, of course. Ehm. It's just, none of them have ever actually faced a dragon. Yes no I know Sir Edbert says he did but Sir Edbert is rather notoriously prone to exaggerated and tragically unverifiable tales---
Well no milord of course I would not doubt the word of a sworn knight. Perhaps his sobriety, but not his word, as such.
The point is that the grand treasury, while surely grand and a very special notion, is just... it is mayhaps not the ideal way of handling the realm's finances? Perhaps a series of smaller vaults, capped well below the dangerous wealth threshold at which gold is known to whet the appetite of colossal winged harbingers of death, in different corners of the realms or...?
No, I, yes well I do realize that will impede anyone's interests in coming into the vault to hurl around the gold coins and go "whee, I'm so rich!" I am aware of its deficiencies as a plan in that regard. No, I see I've misjudged a few things.
Actually, thinking on it, milord, I truly believe what you need is a fresh set of skilled wizards on this job. The court magician and I, we cannot keep up with your visionary thinking. We're too old-fashioned. But the wizards revolutionizing the eldritch academies seem to be more on this sort of level. I hear they've made some truly remarkable choices in terms of outsourcing all of their spellwork to the Ever-Whispering Void, such that it takes mere minutes for them to set up an entire defensive array. That's just the sort of innovative thinking you require.
Though it will grieve the court magician and I to leave your service, perhaps this is a sign that retirement is overdue. So I'll just... be moving further away from the big pile of gold... in the opulent, dome-shaped building with the crystal skylight... best wishes.
I pulled my sister in law for the family holiday gift swap this year and I'm vibrating with excitement. I've been wanting to get her for years. she's the most basic woman I've ever met and I mean that with admiration that borders on fear. Her house is full of inspirational quotes in cursive. Her bathroom has a "Lashes Long Coffee Strong" poster and she doesn't even drink coffee. Her makeup is Did. Her hair is Did. She is fashionably tipsy at every occasion. She sells bougie wine for a living and brings a hair curler with her on vacation. She is the maximalist luxury target consumer for literally everything. I am obsessed with her the way a gay man is obsessed with Liza Minelli. I would buy her a pink rhinestone car with lashes on the headlights if it wasn't a bit outside the secret santa spending limit.
Ideas I've had so far:
A gold plated wine opener with her name engraved on it
some kind of classy-but-cunty Christmas decor. Something chi-chi and sparkly that's giving "oh, it's Christmas, bitch"
one of those instax mini cameras in a color like "blossom pink" because you know this diva scrapbooks
those little bone china Tiffany's cups that are made to look like cheap disposable paper cups but they're Tiffany blue and they say "Tiffany's" on them (because you know this diva is obsessed with Tiffany's)
a Swarovski birthstone bracelet because you know this diva actually gives a shit about her birthstone
I hope none of this comes off as sarcastic because if my kidneys were gold and made by Louis Vuitton I'd give her one of those. This woman is delightful and friendly and warm and organizes the family photo with an air of command fit for a British naval commodore. She is more self-actualized than me, she is happier than me, her chi is clean, and she still talks about her quinceañera. Her wedding was "Tuscan-themed." How do I please this perfect angel. What should be my tribute
OP here is what you're going to do. There is no more basic bitch gift than a GIFT BASKET. You're going to assemble this one yourself.
It's going to have the gold plated wine opener with her name on it. It's going to have a scented candle. It's going to have a Lush bath bomb. It's going to have the pinkest loofah you can find. It's going to have a moisturizing face mask. It's going to have a little sign for her to hang on the bathroom door that says "Don't interrupt my ✨Diva Time✨" in glittery writing. It's going to have a sand-etched wine glass that says "Live, Laugh, Love, Drink Wine In The Bath". It's going to have some Lindt chocolate truffles. It's going to also have a sparkly christmas ornament and i trust you to pick one that fits the general theme here. If you still need to fill it in, you're going to add a gift card to Sephora or, if you would like bonding opportunities, a little envelope with a hand-written "gift card" for "[Spa day/mani-pedis/whatever] with your Favorite Sister-in-Law, you choose the day <3". Maybe also some cute scrapbook stickers.
You're going to get a basket and some of that shredded tissue paper filler, and you're going to arrange all this neatly in it. This woman is going to go CRAZY for a gift basket, and i think you know that in your heart.
I’m not sure if this will be helpful to anyone, but you literally do not have to be a good writer to write and post fan fiction. Yes you will naturally get better at writing and finding your voice the more you do it but you do not have to be or become a professional level writer to enjoy writing and sharing fics. It’s common to hear people praise fic writers by saying their work is better than published books, and while I think this comes from a good place, that’s not the norm or expectation. There is also a sentiment that fic writing is “good practice” for becoming a better writer or doing something else later, but if fic is the only creative writing you ever do that is literally okay. Your technical skill does not mean you cannot have fun and build community with your writing, or that other people cannot love and find meaning in your work.
Charlotte has a spotlight on her for You Tied Up My Heart even though she's not singing. Bill has a spotlight on him for Not Your Seed even though he's not singing. they're being pulled into the show, forced to contend with their infected loved ones on Pokey's terms before being properly assimilated. they've already become part of the show before they're part of the hive.
for Inevitable, Emma doesn't have a spotlight on her until the end. because until the end, the point is that Emma's alone now. only Paul gets a spotlight, it's Paul's song, Paul is the focus, Paul is being celebrated. Emma's fear, her attempts to escape, don't matter, she doesn't need to be lit. Paul's corpse basks in the light, flaunting how separated they are now, while Emma runs and screams in the shadows. Emma's not part of the show, Paul is.
only when it's time for Emma to be front and center does she get her spotlight - only when it's fully sunk in for her that she has no escape. that's when she becomes part of the show. the light is on her until she's carried offstage, and she can kick and scream and beg all she wants. the light will still shine on her.

Oops! Looks like another tiny dragon has gotten loose. This one had the misfortune of finding an ink bottle…
things I’ve noticed in the UK:
- when you’re jay walking, cars will actively accelerate bc the drivers want to kill you for breaking the rules
- servers in restaurants act very scared and apologetic, so maybe people aren’t nice to them here??? or I could be terrifying
- it’s really cute when little kids have British accents, but I’m unmoved by adults with accents
- extremely good gluten free options. this country is like 20 years ahead of Canada in that regard
- people will give random insignificant buildings names with little plaques. and then that’s the name that shows up on the map. like even a smaller than average family home, you can name it like it’s a dog
- lots of brick and stone buildings. looks cute and charming until you enter one and there’s no air conditioning
- people are still wearing jaguar print. I like this. don’t let it die
ohhh okay! amendment: cars will actively try to kill you for being small and made of flesh, instead of cool and metal like them
something that i find interesting about independent animation nowadays is that if you don't have studio/streamer backing, you have to release your work yourself on the internet, but you have to do it for free on the internet because virtually nobody is going to be willing to accept a paywall just for one original show, so what you have to do in order to make any money off of it is make all of your money from merchandising, but then this means that you show must be merchandisable and have very toyetic character designs that translate easily to plushies and whatnot, but then you also need to cater your show to people who are disproportionately inclined to buy merchandise like that in the first place so that your sales can be enough to sustain you, which means that even if you want to communicate complex or difficult ideas in your work, your independent animation project must attract (at least on a first impression) and retain viewers who are both very consumerist and very capable of rabid passion, which unfortunately has a single-circle shaped venn diagram with a lot of the most toxic fandom tendencies known to man, and this explains a lot of things about independent animation and its fandoms nowadays I think
why, i haven't the foggiest notion of what you're talking about
In 2026, the chicest thing a gay actor can do is never explicitly come out as gay but also make it abundantly clear that he is. Coming out is too modern. Staying closeted is too old fashioned. But this method merges contemporary freedom with Old Hollywood glamour and allure, and it weeds out the dumbest people who truly don’t get it. I call it the Pascal Method.
Taylor Swift does this
no she doesn’t
You clearly don't go here or to queer history and signaling, or both, enough to have this conversation and I'm not going to explain it to you. You could have asked questions, you could have done even a modicum of research. You didn't and you made yourself look ignorant. Goodbye.
doesnt like it
