So I’m more or less being facetious here, but this is actually a thing.

Hamlet is genre savvy. Hamlet knows how Tragedies work, and he’s not going to rush in and get stabby without making absolutely certain he’s got all the facts.

Except once he thinks he has all the facts – once he’s certain that it really is the ghost of his father and Claudius really did kill him, he rushes in and stabs the wrong guy, which starts a domino line of deaths and gets Laertes embroiled in his own revenge tragedy and ultimately results in the deaths of nearly every character other than Horatio.

That’s the irony and the tragedy of the story. Hamlet knows his tropes and actively tries to avoid them, and the tropes get him anyway. It’s inevitable, the tropes are hungry.

Hi I saw one of your comments asking how Byler shippers have been ableist towards El and I thought I'd answer you since you seem to be genuinely asking.

First, the blatant ableism. I've seen many Byler shippers make fun of El for not knowing certain words and implying that she's dumb. El isn't dumb, she's known how to read since season 1. Her vocabulary might be limited (which is why she works on it with Hopper), but she's never been stupid.

This is a lot more rare and pretty much isn't serious, but it's still casual ableism that shouldn't be tolerated in any part of the fandom, especially not about the main character.

Second and what's a lot more widely accepted is that El "wasn't ready" for a relationship. The implication here is that El is too immature or emotionally stunted or dependent.

Which isn't true. El has always been independent and has always made decisions for herself. All of season 2 was about her disobeying Hopper's rules and making decisions for herself. And even in season 1 she's comfortable telling Mike what she does and doesn't want to do. El is very independent even directly after leaving the lab.

El also isn't emotionally stunted, she's socially stunted. She's very clear about her feelings and is capable of showing empathy (like with Billy). El is very aware of her emotions.

I would also argue that El is one of the most mature Party members (after maybe Lucas). She's always taken a burden or responsibility, even when she doesn't have to, and tries to think clearly even when everyone around her (Hopper, Mike, Max) are acting with their emotions.

El's trauma shouldn't mean she's not capable of being in a relationship just like Will's trauma shouldn't. It's a double standard that's been imposed onto only El to make Mileven worse than it is and make Byler seem better in comparison. It's ableism for the sake of shipping even if some Byler shippers pretend it's within El's best interest
