it is just crazyyyyy how this mirrors my experience and the rest is just gorgeous gravy. i wonder how other people are experiencing this book. im glad i read them when i was 30 and not when i was 17 but also she would have loved it you know.

the final one is the most devastating because of the slow crawl of it. because at that point she is a 30 year old woman who has never been loved and shes by that time been defending him because people are judging his appearance and shes like its not his fault hes disfigured and actually when we hang out he is so gentle and articulate. but the thing is it IS his fault hes disfigured because he fucked up mid murder and got burned. but i think this is reflective of a larger pattern wherein it becomes the burden of the unloved woman to love the unloveable man. and the best part is he just fucks it up completely! he just absolutely ruins it forever by being himself for a moment! which happens EVERY DAY! every day some freak lets the mask slip because he thought he had gotten her sufficiently invested and every day someone is shaken by the realization that it was all for nothing, all that time was worthless, all those words were a lure. and then of course the castle has something to say about it but for the rest of us there are surely other paths.
