Woven from the love of the Weaver Witch, Spinstra, Bobbin is nothing less than magical! Aiming to be the greatest mage to ever come out of Patchland, this little spider has her work cut out for her. Given the reputation of her evil sorcerer uncle, Yin Yarn, and his multiple attempts to take over Patchland and Dreamland alike, Bobbin finds herself struggling to break out of his shadow. Regardless, she's determined to make her own path in the world as a great spellcaster, and with her friends by her side, she's bound to get there eventually.Â
Since running away to Dreamland to ask for Kirby's help defeating her uncle (post the events of Epic Yarn), she's become good friends with its residents, alongside finding a mentor in the legendary hero Meta Knight. She and Prince Fluff find themselves coming over often and ending up in all sorts of shenanigans, from fighting Nightmare's monsters to travelling to distant lands in need of their help. On their quieter days, Bobbin can be found practicing her magic, combat training, or partaking in Dreamland's book club and senior center for some fiber arts time with the elders.Â
Bobbin's magic is channeled through strands of yarn and her crochet hook (which acts as a foci as well as a melee weapon). She can rearrange the yarn wrapped around her torso and in her buns into different shapes to aid her as tools in battle, commonly using webs to catch people. Trouble is, once she's out of yarn, she's limited in what she can do. Occasionally she will also use this to reshape Fluff, acting similarly to the ability portals in Epic Yarn. She mostly acts as support, empowering her friends. But when she's needed most, Bobbin will step up to the plate to be just as much as a full fledged hero as those around her.
For heroes capable of using the copy ability, Bobbin has three potential abilities to provide. If you use her crochet hook, you get Needle. If you use one of her crafts, you get Artist. If you get it from her directly, you get Beam.

Does yarn texture affect how spellcasting works? As in make it easier or harder or add extra side effects? If so, then what's your favorite and least favorite type of yarn to work with?
Oh this is a GREAT question! So, yarn texture DOES affect your spellcraft, but probably not in the way you'd expect. Like- oh my gosh I think I need to write this down. Otherwise it's not gonna be coherent in the slightest.
For starters, I can cast with just about any yarn at my disposal. It's more a matter of making sure it's enchanted. And that's like, super easy, just gotta get it on the same frequency as my magic, bathe it in there for a bit, and we're all good. Any yarn can work for any spell, but some of them have properties that really come in handy for specific magecraft.
Like, say you want to cast something that keeps you warm. Fire magic, heat enchantment for going out in the snow, etc? You want something like wool for that. It's a good insulator, and it's very breathable (very important for the fire triangle).
If you want to cast a spell that's soothing and gentle, like say, something to help you sleep? I'm gonna recommend something like mohair or alpaca fiber. That's wicked soft, and dreams stick to it better.
For the sake of keeping it simple, I tend to roll with synthetic fibers, namely acrylic yarn. Just because it's what I have on hand. It comes in a lot of colors, it's fairly good at handling heat, and frankly, there's just a lot of it on Patchland. I don't think I have a least favorite, they're all pretty good in my book. Though, nylon can get a touch stringy for my liking.
I'd love to try my hand at working with more though. There's some really fluffy rabbits out there that have the SOFTEST fur, and I'd love to like, try and spin that for myself someday, see how it casts. I wonder if any of my furry friends would let me try that with their fur. Hmm....something to think about later.
That said, there are some things to be cautious of. Yarn- kinda has a memory to it? So like- I've gotten a couple different yarn bundles from my friends off-planet, and I gotta tell ya: you HAVE to be careful about where your yarn comes from. There's this arachnid tailor that was visiting for Fluff's last birthday ball, Manny I think his name was? Traded me some yarn from Shiver Star. It was a really nice fiber, but when I went to use it for spellcraft- I got turned human-ish! And that metamortex was tight, it took a lot of work to unravel.
And that's when I learned the hard way: yarn retains the essence of the people and places it comes from. It makes perfect sense when you think about it. Yarn is an art tool, art carries a piece of its creator with it. The same thing would happen if someone used yarn I spun for their spells, they'd have some of my essence shining through in their work. It's, kind of beautiful, honestly. It connects us across the world: we all sort of influence each other, help one another without even knowing it sometimes.
Anyway, that's a LOT of yapping from me. ^^'' But thank you so much for the question! I LOVE getting into the nitty gritty of this stuff, it's so much fun!
Oooooh, that's TOUGH! Fluff and I have done so many things together, it's tough to narrow it down. I mean we helped repair the Lor with our friends, battled against Fangora- oh, there was that one visit to the Dream Kingdom too, that was fun. I got to introduce him and Joe to my friend Truffelor, the chocolate wizard.
I think, if we wanna be specific about stuff between the two of us? There was this one time we went to Snow Land together- oh I'll never forget it.
It was beautiful. We went on a hike up to the top of the mountains. Rumor had it that there was a beautiful lake up there that got frozen super solid. Perfect spot to go ice skating! So we decided to see for ourselves. And the legends were true! It was- so tough to make it to the top, what with how little path there was to follow. But when we found it? It was so perfect. We ended up skating for hours.
Once we got back home, we stopped for hot cocoa . He's a bit of a mess. Somehow he always ends up with a mustache whenever he drinks something. (-Cutesy giggling-) But, yeah. I think that's my favorite. I know it's a bit more side-questy than the big, "save the world" stuff. But we don't have to be grand all the time to have fun.
Hey folks! I have been thinking about this for a long time, and I've decided to finally dive in and do it! Introducing something new to the blog: Ask Bobbin!
If you have any questions for Bobbin about anything within her world, she will answer them via text post or audio recording! It's entirely dependent on what I have time for/if I have access to my microphone. My goal is use this as practice for my voice acting.
A couple of ground rules before we start:
Questions must be sent to my askbox.
Keep it Safe for Work. Bobbin is a minor, and I generally want my blog to be a friendly space.
Yes you can poke and her and cause a little trouble. (Asking about Yin Yarn or the Master Crown are easy ways to rile her up.)
I am not obligated to answer every ask. If it makes me uncomfortable, I won't answer it.
For those of you who are new here, here's what you should know about Bobbin:
Bobbin is the teenage niece of Yin Yarn from Kirby's Epic Yarn. Her mother is Spinstra, the Head Witch and Healer of Patchland.
She is currently dating Prince Fluff and has been going on adventures with him for the past two years.
She is a mage in training that is actively studying the Metamortex (the in-game power up gimmick that turns Kirby and Fluff into tanks, trains, etc.).
Bobbin is an Arachknit: part arachnid, part demonbeast, all yarn.
Her lore encompasses both anime and game elements.
She's friends with Tiff, Tuff, and Knuckle Joe, a couple years after the events of Kirby Right Back At Ya (meaning they are teenagers. Kirby is about five years old ish?).
Meta Knight is one of her mentors.
She knows Magolor and helped to repair the Lor! She also joined him for the events of Magolor Epilogue and has had to deal with the Master Crown three times. All of them sucked!
She knows other royals in the Kirby universe thanks to her connections with Fluff. These include Queen Sectonia (and Mage Taranza), King Phanta, Queen Ribbon, King Dedede, and of course, King and Queen Organza of Patchland.
If you have any questions, please send them to my askbox! I'd love to hear from you! Hope your day is most magical!
With Love,
Kat Alyst <3
Audio Transcript Below:
"Hey there! I'm Bobbin, Bobbin Bobble, soon to be the greatest mage in Patchland.
Today I'm introducing to you my newest blog segment: Ask Bobbin!
There's so much cool stuff that's happening in my world, and I am so psyched to share it with you all!
So if you've got any questions for me, my askbox is open.
They can be about, well, anything really!
Patchland, Dreamland, my friends and family here, magic, yarn, you name it!
Just please, keep it PG and be respectful.
Oh, and also,-no Yin Yarns allowed. Sorry Uncle, but this is one party you're not invited to. (-Mischievous Laughter here-)
For everyone else, I hope to hear from you soon! Hope your day is most hexcellent! Take care!"
I am SO PLEASED to finally have a full body sketch with colors for Havoc. For those who are new here, Havoc (they/them) is one of my Demonbeast OCs. They are a songweaver, meaning they're a spidery creature that uses music and audiokinetic abilities for combat and capture. Havoc hasn't worked for NME in a number of centuries, they dance to the beat of their own drum. Loves to cause a little chaos too.

Happy Mother's Day! In the spirit of the holiday, I doodle Prince Fluff's mom today.
Meet Queen Pashmina Organza, queen of Patchland! Her friends call her Mina. <3
We had so much fun on stream recently with more Kirby themed merfolk. I loved Magolor and Adeleine enough that I opted to color them both, but aahhh, all of them are so cute! This has been so much fun.
So there's this really cool spider here in our real world that is easily mistakable for a spider corpse being puppeteered by parasites. Naturally, I needed to play with this concept for my weavers.
This is Enoki, and she is what is known as a Deathweaver Demonbeast. Her species is meant to mimic the Deathwoven, which are other Weaver and Demonbeast corpses that are under the control of Nightmare and his Deathweavers. Deathweavers are responsible for collecting fallen monsters (and on rare occasions, warriors), and manipulating their forms to keep fighting after death.
Enoki looks perpetually exhausted and close to the grave, but don't be fooled, she's very sharp and alive. She's got a dark sense of humor and mostly keeps to herself, quiet and calculated. I look forward to seeing what her dynamic is with her fellow weavers of other subclasses.
Happy Mermay! I've been trying to figure out how I want to play with Mermaids in the Kirby universe for a while now, and I think we've made some progress. Meet Petite Lobster and Squee, both affectionately named by my Twitch chat. XD
Squee doesn't have a lot of story at the moment. She's really just "Squishy, but make it a mermaid". Petite however, is a little more fleshed out. The story we came up with was that she's made from the same metal as Heavy Lobster from Kirby Superstar, and her primary objective is to collect parts of ships that have fallen into the ocean to rebuild them (namely, the Halberd). Given the resemblance to Susie, I imagine she might be a creation of the Haltmann Works Company, but we'll have to see. A huge thank you to @beth-purcell, @iggymtg, and @graycoin for their contributions to this, you guys rock. XD
Under the cut are the original sketches before we fleshed out these.
As you can see, there's a third here, a Patchlander betta fish mermaid that loves to collect treasure. I'm not feeling as certain about her, but maybe we can revisit another day. I'm having a lot of fun with these, they're very cute. <3
So someone on stream last night asked about the potential for a merman version of Kine, and I was reminded that I doodled this back in February. Some friends and I were watching the first episode Kine appears in for Right Back At Ya, and I gotta say, it's a lot cuter in Japanese where Kine and Tiff sound like they could be the same age.
I don't know how this would happen, but I feel like there could totally be a plotline here where Bobbin messes up a spell and it leads to this. She is, after all, a mage of the Metamortex, transformations gone awry are a great plot device for her. What do you think?

The Heroes of Yore remain a subject I've been eager to play with, and I'd like to introduce you to one of them today:
This is Gloria, the Hammer Lord, and the very first of the Dark Matter to ever exist in the Witch Crafter AU.
She wasn't dark in nature originally, she was something of a neutral matter really. Gloria fought valiantly with her fellow heroes to help seal the Void away. But there was a goddess who was angered by their action, who imprisoned each of them in turn for a perceived transgression. Gloria was trapped within a magic mirror, left to stew in the intensity of her grief and anger for years, before being freed by two foolish academics: Starlyle and Fiyarno. Upon her release, dark matter was unleashed upon the world, her pain made sentient and tangible. To quote her directly:
"You denied us the right to LIVE in the world we PROTECTED! You don't DESERVE your world!
The price to pay, for a world 'saved' from darkness...is a world without light."
Now that my story things have been revealed to friends, I can tell you about them.
A long time ago, I joked that Yin Yarn and Hyness were roommates in college and well, I ended up running with it and making something really cool and far more serious than I meant for it to be. X'''D So now, here in the Witch Crafter AU, we have it so there used to be a magic school, run and founded by Headmaster Starlyle here, where ironically a lot of Kirby villains ended up studying magic before they ever became villains. Like no joke, we've got Drawcia, we've got the two halves of Yin Yarn, we've got Paintra, Dark Crafter, Hyness, and much later in the timeline, Taranza.
A number of you sussed me out on Starlyle, he is in fact related to Nightmare. XD So here's the deal: Starlyle is Nightmare before he becomes Nightmare. There's a very important event that happens between him and this college-aged Fiyarno, that results in the corruption of both of them.
Starlyle has a mission, to free the Heroes of Yore from the places where they've been imprisoned, their punishment for sealing the Void. He believes that it was wrong, and he's been trying everything in his power to change that. Starlyle and Fiyarno start with the hammer lord, who has been trapped in a magic mirror, surrounded by an endless loop of negativity and pain that, unbeknownst to them, has corrupted the very glass itself. Upon freeing her, the glass shattered, and in a Snow Queen twist, the glass ends up in both of their eyes, forcing them to see the worst in the world, which kickstarts each of their paths to corruption. And that is how we get the birth of Nightmare.
Finally got around to throwing some color on Quilton the Cozy and Fiyarno the Frayed! I've shared more about them in another post, but for everyone new here: these are the two halves that make up Yin Yarn for my AU! They are husbands (my beloved poly pans in a poncho) that were fused together in a last ditch effort to free Patchland from Nightmare's wrath (which corrupted their souls and sent them down the path of evil).
Quilton is the middle child in his family. His older sister is Drawcia, and his younger sisters are Paintra and Vividria. Fiyarno is an only child, an orphan from Patchland that found his family in constructing familiars.
So, I ended up doing a lot more art than normal that's like, lined and colored, and it was because I needed it for an RP in April. One of my friends has been running this really fun event where we sent a handful of villains through this recollection of their traumatic memories and what made them the villains they are today.
Now, if you know me within my specific RP community, then you know I play as Yin Yarn, and I was not gonna pass up the opportunity to bring people into what I've been doing with Patchland. But I ended up getting to expand upon some cool stuff that goes beyond my typical yarny goodness. And I'm so excited for you guys to see it. We've got heroes of yore development, we've got Nightmare, we've got academia, it's great. XD What started as the joke of "oh yeah Yin Yarn and Hyness went to college together" has actually become a somewhat serious plot progression. You are not ready for this. X'''D
I will make an effort to share the art when I can here on the blog. I'm unsure if it should be all in one post or spread across a couple of them based on category. What do you think?

Having some fun with character designs! Meet Headmaster Starlyle and Fiyarno (and his familiar, Clover the Scarfy).
Starlyle is a well respected wizard who oversees a magic school. He does a great deal of work to give his students the best he can offer, wanting the future of magic to be bright and hopeful. Fiyarno is one of his students, an anxious young lad from Patchland who shows great promise in his sorcery. He's got a knack for knitting together small creatures to help him with tasks, though Clover is the only one he keeps around permanently (she's his favorite). He shows great promise, but his confidence is a little lacking.
I love the hypothetical question of "what would happen if your OC wore the Master Crown". So naturally, we had to return and explore this with Bobbin. I've been working on this on and off while streaming this month, and ooooh I am so PUMPED to share it with you!
