Please make the post abou why you donโt like kevjean as an endgame ship!! I personally donโt like them for a similar reason I donโt think Kevin should be with Thea: two former ravens living together would inevitably fall back on terrible habits. When it comes to Jean and Kevin specifically there is so much history and hurt that thereโs no way they wouldnโt end up making each other worse.
I should start by stating that I don't dislike KevJean, actually. I find them cute in a way abused dogs are cute. But for an endgame ship, I don't feel like they would work. I view them as a tragic could-have-been. And tragedies do not have happy endings (I am using the word tragedy in the loosest sense, donโt at me English majors).
We know Jean has romantic feelings for Kevin. We don't know if Kevin reciprocates it. there is a high possibility that he does, but hides it well (best liar in the series, Iโm telling you). But regardless of his romantic feelings, it is very clear that Kevin loves Jean very much.
The main reason for my disagreement is that theirs is a one-way relationship. The hierarchy in their relationship is unbalanced in a way that it is a โburdenโ for Kevin. I might be choosing my words incorrectly. Stay with me, please. Kevin protects Jean as much as he can in the Nest. He cannot stop the violence done against Jean, but he provides small comforts for him, like sending him presents, and learning his mother tongue. He is also the reason Jean does not kill himself. After he leaves the Nest, they are not in communication frequently. When they talk over the phone or see each other at the banquets, it is clear that Jean is angry at Kevin. Then Jean is also out, and Kevin tries his best to keep Jean out of the water. He provides a safe space for him, he informs Betsy so that she can handle Jeanโs trauma, he talks about his own abuse so that Jeremy can get an idea of what Jean went through, he tries to improve Jean's public face... Even when he left the Nest, it was for Jeanโs sake in a way (Kevin would die since he has no use as an asset, then Jean would have no reason not kill himself). What has Jean done for Kevin? He hates him for leaving, he obeys him, he canโt provide comfort because either Riko doesnโt allow or Kevin doesnโt let Jean see him hurting. He did help Kevin escape, but Iโm not sure if it was voluntary or if it was Kevinโs manipulation. And it is not a failing of Jean; Jean is in no position to serve Kevin emotionally or behaviorally. He was basically a slave not until a few months prior. (Of course, Kevin was also a slave/pet, and he was in the Nest longer). So, this is what I mean by โburdenโ. Jean cannot take Kevinโs hurt away, and Kevin probably doesnโt allow him to even if he wanted/could. Kevin gives; Jean takes.
Another reason is that they didn't choose each other. Both were in the Nest unwillingly. While they have deep respect for their abilities as athletes, they did not actively choose each other; they were forced to be together. Compare/contrast with Kandreil. Kevin picks both Andrew and Neil out of hundreds of athletes. Andrew, who doesnโt do anything he doesnโt like, keeps Kevin as his own. Neil, with a target on his back, leaves the safety of anonymity and signs for a nationwide infamous team (Ok, enough Kandreil propaganda).
There is also the fact that Jean thinks nothing of the possibility of Kevin dying, like no sadness, nothing. But it could also be a trauma response. But again, compare/contrast with Neilโs thoughts of Kevin dying. (Sorry, Iโm done for real)
And I guess you could make an argument that with tons of therapy and healing, they can get together and be a healthy couple, but then they won't be Kevin and Jean anymore?
