WHAT
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in an exclusive interview, says he will be 'reintroducing' Americans to cooking again in a new series.
No.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
😂😂😂
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
There are many people who don’t share this sentiment, but I have an appreciation for when a fanfic is so separated from canon that it could’ve easily been its own original novel, and yet the author was only ever going to put that much energy into it if their favourite characters got to be there
I think there’s a difference between “the author stripped the media of everything it had to replace it with something easy” and “the author thought up a concept they really really like and are bestowing it upon the character like a medal”

So, I’ve seen a lot of recommendations for the book Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom by Syne Mitchell. My god I love this book already and I’m not even to the fancy stuff yet! First off, I can finally stop looking up videos about how to do a hemstitch! And she actually explained how to do it for the start of the project! Every video I’ve found is focused on the end, so I didn’t realize you could just leave a gap between your header and your fabric to give you space to stitch. That seems WAY easier than trying to do it after the fact like I have been😅
On top of that, I never knew these words weren’t interchangeable before. I’ve always just kinda assumed they were synonyms…
I really appreciate getting specific resources for Scottish tartans. The first thing I did when I discovered there’s a free website that lets you design your own weaving patterns was try to recreate my own clan tartan. However, being both American and the only person in my family to never actually live in Scotland, I never knew about the register. I was going based off the teddy bear my mom still has that’s made out of our tartan and Google image searches.
But best of all is this! I’M GONNA PUT SECRET MESSAGES IN SO MANY THINGS!!!
And this is just from the first half of the book! I skimmed ahead and there’s patterns in here that need three heddles! There’s tapestry weaving! There’s bookmarks that double as READING LIGHTS!! I’m so excited try out everything in here!
Had to nope out and DNF this book of sewing tips I tried reading. One of the contributors advised that if you burn yourself with an iron, you should cover the fresh burn in undiluted lavender essential oil.
Do not do that unless you'd like an infection, contact dermatitis, and/or a full-blown allergic reaction. Fuck's sake.
If you're worried about iron burns, get a goddamn tube of burn cream. That should be in your household first aid kit anyway, if you can afford to put one together. And you really ought to if you can. I have had to deal with so, so many burns in my household over the years, including one that resulted in an emergency room visit. Don't fuck around with burns.
A tube of brand-name Neosporin burn cream is like $6 at the drugstore I use, and there are off-brand alternatives for even less. I compared prices, and burn cream is literally cheaper than the snake oil bullshit. That price obviously isn't universal, but, y'all, please, use proper first aid instead of made-up bullshit pushed by pyramid schemes.
Essential oil "first aid" is a damn scam.
Ok, I literally just got out of my emergency responder refresher class this morning.
If you burn yourself (sewing, cooking, whatever), go rinse the burn under cool running water for at least 5 minutes for a small burn, 15 for a large burn. A first degree burn will only leave a red mark, and feel free to treat at home with burn cream and cover with a soft dry bandage if necessary (better to leave open to air). Anything that blisters, do the same first steps and then go to urgent care or at least call the advice nurse. Hopefully no one's iron is set to give you third degree burns, but follow the previous and get ye to the er/burn ward/911
Never ever ever put any oil or butter (or toothpaste yikes!) on a burn!!!!! It will hold in the heat and make the burn worse. If it's a second degree burn or worse, don't put any burn cream on unless a medical professional tells you it's ok! Please take care of your burns!
headcanon that a ferengi tradition is putting your new baby up for sale at a ridiculous price to show how valuable they are to you (everyone has to be polite and not actually buy them or hands will be thrown, people will be sued, etc etc)
I love the idea of Ferengi traditions that are both ha-ha capitalism but also create a functioning culture that’s more than a metaphor.
So, this is related to a headcanon I have. There's a kind of ritual sale of childhood goods as part of the Ferengi coming-of-age, which was featured in an episode of DS9. The ostensible purpose is to raise capital for the young Ferengi male. But, like, if the Ferengi were approaching this in their usual capitalistic mindset, you wouldn't really get much from what's basically a glorified garage sale
My headcanon is that it is the accepted practice to buy those goods at much higher prices than you would normally pay, serving as a culturally acceptable way of effectively giving financial support
Oh I love these, especially because of the spoken and unspoken meta-traditions around the tradition! Maybe they work similarly to the “speak now or forever hold your peace” thing in human marriage ceremonies. Everyone at a human wedding understands you’re not actually supposed to say anything at that point, it’s just a formality—but you see characters do it all the time in literature and entertainment, because it makes for such a juicy plot twist.
I bet “newborn gets purchased by evil jealous ex-business partner” is a classic plot hook in Ferengi soap operas. It’s their version of getting sold to One Direction.
But reylo really is the most heterosexual ship out there because the man’s violence and anger and general immaturity are taken to be romantic and the woman’s clear feelings of disgust/hatred/fear of the man are completely ignored.
to think they crucified me for this and acted like I was shitting on DV victims. I’ll add that reylo is white as FUCK.

I feel like tumblr should be bigger fans of The Blues Brothers. It's a movie that has everything we value as a community. Attention and respect to pioneering black musicians, open hostility to nazis, open defiance to police, Carrie Fisher with a rocket launcher and flamethrower, a soundtrack that goes hard as hell, John Belushi so blasted on cocaine that he continues to do somersaults despite having a broken ankle. It's got it all!
Frank Oz is the jail's discharge clerk when Belushi gets out of jail at the beginning.
Not getting into ending spoilers but Steven Spielberg plays a character who is pivotal to the climax of the film.
Ray Charles fires a warning shot from a pistol at a shoplifter.
They did location filming in a mall that had closed the previous year in 1978. The production fucked that mall up so bad that it remained abandoned until it was finally demolished in 2012.
A total of 60 cop cars are fucking destroyed in the movie.
It’s got Aretha Franklin as a sarcastic diner owner with her own back-up dancers. Chaka Khan is a soloist in the choir. And the whole scene set to Cab Calloway’s Minnie the Moocher is so spectacular I won’t ruin it for you.
Google AI Overview court loss in Germany could spell doom for AI search industry.

I think I’m going to think about this youtube comment forever
[id: a youtube comment by @/KM-mw3jp that reads "When I was in 7th and 8th grade we had a Sikh kid who would carry wet boba around in his pocket and throw them at people for insulting him, his religon, his culture, or other kids. I asked him about it a couple years ago and he said it's cause his dad gave him some talk about how standing up for what's right is part of the religon. So for two years this boy carried an open plastic bag FULL of wet boba around to throw at bullies. If it was a minor insensitive comment or a first time offence it would be one boba. If it was a big thing or a reoccurring bully it could be a bunch. He even threw boba at our substitute teacher one day because she tried to punish us because one kid was talking by making all of us do pushups. He literally went "no that's not fair" and threw like four wet bobas at her.
Pretty sure his dad encouraged that behavior too. And to be honest, it did deter a lot of bullying and name calling." /end id]
Context for those who don't know what a kirpan is or why this became a debate:
A kirpan is one of the sacred objects Sikhs have to carry at all times. The kirpan specifically is supposed to be a physical reminder of a Sikh's duty to fight injustice, stand up for truth and honor, etc. While a kirpan is traditionally a short sword, the word "kirpan" comes from the words kirpa and aan, meaning mercy and grace respectively. This is intentional, as it adds an extra layer of reminder that the kirpan is ONLY to be used in defense of self or others, and NEVER for senseless cruelty or selfish/immoral reasons.
Context for my own opinion on said debate:
I'm not a Sikh, but my Uncle Gurkhi was, my Dad almost was, and I spent a lot of time as a kid in gurdwaras and ashrams asking questions of anyone who would answer them.
(Also, of all the many religious people I've asked questions of, Sikhs are one of my favorites. They answer questions, they don't try to make the answers a sales pitch, and they don't make me feel dumb for asking. Sikhs are great, go visit your local gurdwara and make a Sikh friend or five. 10/10 would reccomend.)
So while I definitely do not have the full authority to say anything firm about it, my personal take based on what I do know after asking many MANY questions about the "cool knifes" as a young child, is that if that baggie of wet boba is reminding him that he both can and should stand up against injustice but also ought to mitigate the harm he does in doing so if possible - which appears to be the case - then the baggie of wet boba is, functionally anyways, an acting kirpan. Might not pass muster for ritual reasons, but fuck if it ain't doing the job just fine.
