Chihayafuru is about three autistic kids who find each other and experience fleeting euphoria in a shared special interest for the first time so when it's time to part ways they all vow to keep playing so that maybe they can meet again one day. Except one of them is trapped in high masking survival mode and when they do reunite he can't for the life of him figure out why he can't ever seem to catch up with them. Or fall back into beat with them. Despite the fact that while they're giving their all to this sport, his parents are forcing him to keep his grades at the literal top of his entire grade at all times if he wants to keep playing his silly poetry sport. And he's not a natural born genius. But he can keep up the image of one. And he's still so drawn to these two people who are chasing their dreams without a care for how they're being perceived or how they're going to make it in the real world after giving their all to this dead-end sport but he's also jealous and possibly bitter and maybe he always has been and it probably should make sense but it just feels confusing and wrong. Oh also it's a love triangle but for some reason he's the only one who recognizes that? The other two keep acting like all they want is for the three of them to be together again. Like, forever. Like they don't understand that she's going to have to pick between the boys eventually. And one of them is going to be the loser. And it's probably going to be him. But he hasn't given up. He's probably going to have a nervous breakdown. Idk I haven't finished the show yet
