SHIFTING METHOD EXPLAINED
𐙚┆WHAT IS LUCID DREAMING?
a lucid dream is considered any dream in which the dreamer becomes AWARE that they’re dreaming… while in the dream! that’s a tongue twister. lucid dreaming as a practice is taken seriously, studied by scientists.
𐙚┆HOW EXACTLY DID THEY PROVE IT TO BE REAL?
the oh so classic empirical breakthrough came from experiments that very clearly showed lucid dreamers can produce measurable signals from inside REM sleep. REM sleep features rapid eye movement (literally what it’s shortened for), and characteristic brainwave signatures! researchers worked with trained lucid dreamers and asked them to perform predetermined voluntary eye movement sequences once they became lucid. this was only asked because eye movements are visible on polysomnography video and electrooculogram recordings even while the body is otherwise paralyzed by REM atonia. aaand… drumroll, SUCCESSFUL replication of these agreed signals during confirmed REM periods provided objective proof that people were aware and intentionally acting while asleep! furthermore, it’s proven that during lucid REM there is increased activity in prefrontal and frontoparietal networks that are normally quiet during ordinary REM.
𐙚┆THE BRAIN DURING LUCID DREAMING
for a simple overview on it’s neurophysiological effects, because i’d rather die than bore you with more unnecessary science talk… limbic areas such as the amygdala and visual association cortices are highly active creating strong emotion and imagery, portions of the prefrontal cortex and parietal cortex that govern self reflection, metacognition, and working memory show increased activation, MY POINT IS! the brain is suggestible during lucid dreams. it’s malleable and accepts input easily, you can form deliberate intentions and resist suggestions you do not want. practically means commands or intentions you give yourself before or during a lucid dream are UNUSUALLY effective! see what i’m doing?
𐙚┆HOW IT CONNECTS TO SHIFTING
first and foremost, shifting and lucid dreaming are NOT the same. one is a dream state that your brain generates, which you experience in THIS reality; and the other is an intentional movement of awareness to a reality which is real, stable, and separate from your current one. yes! they use different mechanisms, but they can intersect. that teeny tiny intersection is where a lot of people can get their strongest results, and lucid dreaming may just be for YOU! there’s no harm in trying.
we’ve mentioned lucid dreaming is malleable, your sensory field, your environment, your “body,” every rule inside a lucid dream is built by your brain. NOTHING is fixed. nothing is locked. it all changes the moment you intend it to change.
and as we know… shifting can work on intention, assumption, immersion, and the ability to let your awareness move into a different reality.
again! not the same as dreaming. many people have shifted through a lucid dream.
when you’re lucid, your brain is in.. almost a hybrid state.
the imagery system is wide open and extremely responsive, and the reflective part of your mind is awake enough to direct what happens. you have a mental environment with zero physical limits but full cognitive control. THAT is extremely rare in normal waking life. and because of that, any intention you hold inside a lucid dream hits harder. your brain is at maximum suggestibility. you can LITERALLY just decide “I am shifting now,” create a doorway, a portal, a bed, a light, a void, whatever symbol makes sense to you, and instead of treating it as a dream action, you frame it as the transition point! simple, right??
the moment you let go of the dream rules and commit to the shift, the lucidity part fades and the consciousness part takes over.
this can work because:
the dream is fake, which means it cannot block you.
your awareness is active, so you can choose where it moves.
your sensory field is already unbound, so switching environments feels natural.
your intention is amplified because the brain accepts suggestions instantly in that state.
think of it like this.
you’re stepping off a stage.
the lucid dream is the stage set, you are the conscious observer!
the second you decide you’re done playing with props, you walk through the exit and aim your awareness at the reality you want.
seperate things, connected bridge.
𐙚┆ANYONE, ANYONE! CAN LEARN LUCID DREAMING.
lucid dreaming, much like shifting, can be seen as a skill. it depends on attention control, meta awareness, memory of intentions, and practice. none of these are supernatural. they are cognitive functions, and like any cognitive function they can be trained! if we wanna be fancy, we can include neuroplasticity and practice—which just means, scientifically, repeated attention training and intention setting change how frequently prefrontal networks engage during REM. over time the brain becomes better at triggering lucidity. lucid dreaming is not gatekept by a divine deity. it is possible for all.
so today, if you feel like it, search up on LD!
search for methods, learn more about it, make a plan to finally get back HOME. to your DR, to your family and loved ones and life.
also, lucid dreaming is like…… really fun 😭
and yes, i HAVE shifted through lucid dreams. multiple times, each time trying a new technique for fun. walk through a door and affirm, sink through the floor and just wake up in my WR, ride a gay pony named alejandro or some shit who took me to my magical “DR entering” door. (don’t ask)
𐙚┆THE MANY METHODS OF LUCID DREAMING, SHORTLY EXPLAINED
dream recall foundation: improving recall makes you notice recurring dream signs and strengthens the memory channel you will use to carry intentions into sleep. could be practiced by the following: keep a dream journal (or just write in your phone) beside your bed and immediately record any fragment as soon as you wake. even one sentence helps. secondly, train waking to sleep memory: before sleep review the day and say out loud, “i will remember my dreams.” thirdly, use gentle awakenings rather than abrupt alarms. lying still while recalling improves recall because it preserves the fragments.
reality testing: these are simple checks you perform repeatedly while awake to build a habit, when performed enough, they spill into dreams and trigger the realization that you are dreaming because the test behaves strangely in dreaming! common ones being; pushing a finger through your palm, which may pass through during a dream. or, checking something twice (e.g. a text, a clock) which can change in a dream.
the regular methods: look further into WBTB, MILD, WILD, etc.
external cues and devices: light, sound, or vibration cues presented during REM can be integrated into dream imagery and serve as triggers to remind you to do a reality check. many try and combine device cues with prior intention setting.
autosuggestion: dreams accept suggestions, deliberate pre sleep imagining influences dream content and increases the chance of encountering your chosen dream sign or goal. imagine a scene in vivid detail before sleep that includes you realizing you are dreaming. basically just intention setting, because yes, that in itself works too!
because ma didn’t raise a gatekeeper, a creator who helped me a LOT on my LD journey (explaining methods and topics clearly, sometimes with science and has had a JOURNEY with lucid dreaming, etc) is Daniel Love on youtube! his videos are also really well done, so it just sucks you in. also, my usual coloring format looks different because.. i kinda have school in 10 minutes and NEEDED to write this. so act like it’s not different 😢
happy shifting, and happy lucid dreaming!
