Hello people returning to tumblr! People who haven’t made their way back on my dash since 2018!

Do you remember me? Do you want to remember me? Well, this blog has been abandoned since 2019 and I’m now @articulately-composed (yes, there’s barely any difference, even down to the theme I’ve kept since 2013...)

I still do voice acting-focused youtube videos, primarily Hiveswap/Homestuck, but I’ve been branching out into other fan content too, and I still write musicals (original ones this time!), but tbh, most of what goes on on my new tumblr is just fucking around and reblogging things I like. I don’t care how much you love Gary Johnson, or Jill Stein. On November 8, 2016, one of two things will be true: either Hillary Clinton will be elected President, or Donald Trump will be elected President.

Which one, HONESTLY, would be worse?

This isn’t the year to “vote your conscience.”

There’s a fucking dangerous man one election away from being President.

This is the year to vote to survive.

Any other year, this would be an exaggeration. We survived Bush, we could have survived McCain or Romney. This year, Trump’s danger is no exaggeration.

Don’t vote your conscience, vote to survive.

This is going around again and now that we’re in the Democratic Primaries and y'all are already saying about how you’ll stay home if you’re favorite doesn’t win I’d just like to remind y'all that people are dying in the Trump administration

People are dying in concentration camps at the border

Trump rolled back Obamacare and now millions more people are without insurance

Trump is rolling back environmental regulations and climate change and pollution will kill us

States are banning abortion which will affect millions of poor women and women of color and SCOTUS night overturn Roe v Wade

Hate crimes against Jews and people of color and LGBT people are going up

There are Nazis in the White House and marching in the streets

And Trump has given tax cuts to billionaires and appointed judges that will take away your constitutional rights

Are you happy with your choice to vote third party? To stay home? Was it worth it? Was all of this worth it?

We’re facing the same choice again. We can’t have four more years of this.

Fight like hell for your candidate in the primaries. Then if and when they lose, get in line behind the winner.

We failed in 2016. The life and death stakes in 2020 are even higher.

Vote. For. Democrats.

Did you guys know Elon Musk sent that STUPID car into space without sterilizing it, and if it hadn’t gone off it’s intended path, and it had reached mars as he intended, it could have permanently ruined the search for life on Mars by contaminating the red planet with Musk‘s cooties. Hitler didn’t start as histories greatest monster, or he wouldn’t have gained the power he got. It was only after he became too powerful to be removed that he revealed his true nature. You have to look for the warning signs and there are a lot of them with the Trump administration. Like, big red flags with glowing flares.

It’s a story about a clown who is wrongfully blamed for the murder of a child and is killed by vigilante townsfolk who don’t accept his innocent verdict. Years later, after bouncing from one foster home to the next, his daughter returns to Maine as an adult and decides to avenge her father... by murdering Stephen King, who she blames for inciting the anti-clown mass hysteria that killed her father.

(I’m not writing this book. I should.)

I’ve seen the Ursula K LeGuin quote about capitalism going around, but to really appreciate it you have to know the context.

The year is 2014. She has been given a lifetime achievement award from the National Book Awards. Neil Gaiman puts it on her neck in front of a crowd of booksellers who bankrolled the event, and it’s time to make a standard “thank you for this award, insert story here, something about diversity, blah blah blah” speech. She starts off doing just that, thanking her friends and fellow authors. All is well.

Then this old lady from Oregon looks her audience of executives dead in the eye, and says “Developing written material to suit sales strategies in order to maximize corporate profit and advertising revenue is not the same thing as responsible book publishing or authorship.”

She rails against the reduction of her art to a commodity produced only for profit. She denounces publishers who overcharge libraries for their products and censor writers in favor of something “more profitable”. She specifically denounces Amazon and its business practices, knowing full well that her audience is filled with Amazon employees. And to cap it off, she warns them: “We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words.”

Ursula K LeGuin got up in front of an audience of some of the most powerful people in publishing, was expected to give a trite and politically safe argument about literature, and instead told them directly “Your empire will fall. And I will help it along.”
