When the Good Place said “Why choose to be good every day when there is no guaranteed reward now or in the afterlife… I argue that we choose to be good because of our bonds with other people and our innate desire to treat them with dignity. Simply put, we are not in this alone.” 

Remember how the Coalition misused over $100 million in community sport funding to target seats it wanted to win instead of going by merit assessment?

Or how the Coalition committed $660 MILLION to car parks that weren't needed just so it could pork barrel Liberal seats?

Or the ILLEGAL robodebt scheme that harassed welfare recipients and the government had to pay $1.8 BILLION in settlements for debt it illegally stole from the most vulnerable in society? (and also it KILLED people)

Remember how the Coalition actively campaigned AGAINST an anti-corruption commission? (Which Labor followed through on a promise and actually made).

I can't think of any scandals like that for the Albanese government. I have my complaints, sure, but they're based off policy disagreements. Like Albo needs to spend more money on the NDIS and housing - but that's still better than how the Coalition cuts money from both of those things PLUS literally wasted BILLIONS of taxpayer money on corrupt and illegal schemes AND their every single one of their policies are garbage.

Electing a Dutton government isn't just going to drive the cost of living up through his dogshit costly policies but you can guarantee he'll waste money on top of that with corruption, pork barreling, and quite likely commit a literal crime on top of it all. Dutton has a history of ignoring department advice and redirecting spending where he wants (like the time he slashed millions from community safety programs).

The Albanese government has saved taxpayers BILLIONS in several ways - some of them better economic policies and some of them is just not being super fucking obviously corrupt.

You can just paint circles. And still make amazing art.

Things that have always stopped me from trying to art:

I can't understand shapes and perspective

I can't understand shading and lighting

I can't make faces or human bodies because I don't perceive them really (every face I draw is the same face, because that is what my face blindness sees)

I can't think of scenes to make

I don't understand "simplifying" what my eye sees into the mushes that artists make (For example, were to try to draw a tree, it would take me 50 years because the only way I could interpret it would be to draw every single individual leaf, exactly as it appears, which is impossible)

Today I learned that I don't have to do any of those things in order to art.

I could just paint circles forever, and that would count as art. As cool art.

I would personally be happier with squares. But still. I could just. Draw shapes and paint them in, and it would count as art.

The reason that flight times can be so different is mainly dependent on three things: the specific aircraft, the route, and the wind. I could go on tangents about all of these, but the point is that you can be flying the exact same plane on the exact same route at the exact same airspeed… and still get drastically different travel times due to the wind fucking with your ground speed.

(Ground speed = true air speed + wind component, if you care.)

And if you’re worried about pilots ramping that shit up to the maximum velocity… you would know if we did. Because we would have to point the nose down for the whole flight. The engines are already often operating at their maximum thrust any time you’re departing or ascending— but as my flight instructors have screamed at me since the day I started flying, “pitch for speed, power for altitude”. I’m not even sure you can hit the “never-exceed” velocities in a stable airplane without slamming the stick forward and nosediving that thang.

We also have this handy color coding on the air speed indicator! (And similar coding on the vertical tape versions in those newfangled glass cockpits.)

Lastly, almost every commercial flight is going to have two people up front. Even if the captain does something stupid, the first officer is there to say “hey, don’t do that” and make corrections accordingly. Even if they do agree to do something dumb, someone on the ground is going to tell them to cut it out. Nobody just gets to fuck around up there.

My computer was running hot before I turned everything off; the office I'm in is very warm, I could feel the heat of my CPU through the keyboard. The fans were going, not as loud as they usually get, but they were still blasting.

I can barely feel the warmth through the keyboard now. It's been like 2 minutes. The fan is nearly silent.

I’m glad we took that X-ray

so one time i was in the eye hospital (id been there the day before and a junior doc dismissed me entirely as nothing being wrong, sent me off with no treatment, and my optician was Not Having It)

selfsame junior doc eye rolled and, when it was clear i wouldn't be leaving again, begrudgingly called in the consultant who took one glance at one eye, said "oh my god" and sent for a second consultant

who took one look and said "'ive never seen anything like it" and sent for a third

who took a quick look and said "wow. jesus. what a mess" and sent for the fourth etc

(junior doc getting progressively more embarrassed the whole time)
