in this house we believe:
this place is not a place of honor
no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here
nothing valued is here
what is here is dangerous and repulsive to us
the danger is in a particular location
the danger is still present in your time as it was in ours
This is a Nuclear Waste Warning Message.
Yāall that link is an incredibly interesting read
hereās a cool video related to long time nuclear waste warning messages! warning symbols and icons donāt convey their meanings forever -they get appropriated and lose the meaning of danger- and itās a challenge to create messages thatāll last as long as the waste itself. there are some proposals on how we can communicate this to future generations, things like, genetically modifying cats to glow near radioactive material and start folk tales about dangers of glowing cats. itās fascinating
the aliens coming to earth, reading this message, and then leaving immediately for fear of the thousands-of-years-old ball of energy ready to kill anyone who disturbs it
how i sleep knowing i will pirate every single thing released on disney plus
how yāall gonna sleep after your computers are infected with a bazillion viruses and the feds gonā bust your asses
how i sleep when I'm pirating disney with a vpn and anti-virus protection.
How I sleep after pirating everything from D+ while using an antivirus, VPN or proxy, and a cantenna to rip off the free wifi at Downtown Disney. If you canāt get wifi directly from the house of mouse McDonaldās will do.
How I sleep knowing Iām pissing off all the Disney bootlickers by pirating:
Oh no! What a terrible thing to do, this information should't be spread by reblogging it, that's for sure.
Okay, I have to admit, using Disney's own wifi to pirate Disney Plus shows is a stroke of absolute GENIUS
my hand slipped when i saw they in the same key & only 3 bpm apartĀ
If anyoneās trying to learn a language Iāve recently discovered this company called theĀ Language Pod Company and it is so much better than Rosetta Stone and itās completely free (unless youād like one-one-one teacher-student help then itās like $25 a month which tbh you shouldnāt really need because they make it really clear in the lessons). Itās super easy to navigate and it even gives you a history of the language. There are audio and video lessons. Real-life situations and different speakers. They even write the letters for you because I know sometime itās hard to learn to write in a language that doesnāt use the same alphabet that youāre used to. Youāre welcome. Ā

cheat code
This will work, I used to be a recruiter. Recruiters donāt got time to read every single resume they see, they look for keywords, find what they want, Call and do a preliminary interview. Thatās it lol
This is amazing
Boosting this!
AMAZING :D
I will remember this tip!
I have no idea if this works at all, but I donāt see how it could hurt. Iām all about resume cheat codes. Hereās some more advice:

If there was a way to run SUPER MEGA AD BLOCKER on this website I fucking would
āPlease oh please open up your computer to a porn virus! If you donāt youāre evil!ā
Freeloader Cominā through!
We didnāt start this war internet users have with ads - We might have moaned about banner ads, but it was only when they started making noises when we might be listening to music or a podcast or whatever, causing two sound sorces at once, that we started trying to block ads universally rather than just a specific type of ad (pop ups).
And since then ads have gotten worse - Actual malware rather than merely breaking one of the fundamental sins of web design - though shalt not autoplay anything with sound. And the more aggressive a website is with āplease turn off adblockā the less I trust it to bother to vet ads and advertisers to make sure theyāre not installing malware.
Not to mention that the idea that avoiding ads is āfreeloadingā is hilariously backward. Advertisement is a transaction between the platform and the advertiser, the user has no obligation to provide the views/clicks the platform has promised. Using an adblocker isnāt freeloading in the same way that leaving the room to get a snack during a commercial break isnāt cheating the tv network.
Ok yāall, I work as a web developer and Iām here to tell you that you are 100% right and that itās shit. SO Iām going to tell you how to get around websites that block you from using their website if youāre using an adblocker.Ā
Every website uses a language called JavaScript; long story short itās a website language that allows developers to do the crazy shit you see on websites. Now the easiest thing to do is to disable JavaScript to stop them from knowing you have an adblocker:
Oh no! Iām blocked from viewing the website. It would be a terrible shame if I were able to right click and select theĀ āinspectā feature
Click the three dots in the top right and open theĀ āSettingsā Menu
And then scrolled down toĀ āDebuggerā and checked theĀ āDisable Javascript Optionā
And then just refreshed the page
Hello! If you don't mind, can you describe what hairstyles for men would've looked like in the past? I tried searching on Google images, but I keep getting modern hairstyles. Thank you in advance!
Hi, thanks for the question! I assume youāre referring to pre-Qing dynasty hairstyles for men.Ā
I recommend readingĀ Politics of Menās Hair in Chinese History for historical context on Chinese menās hairstyles. I gave a summary of the various types of menās hair accessories in this post, and went into more detail on theĀ āGuanā (formal headdress) in this post. I also have a menās headwear tag you can check out.
I condensed the following information from Wikipedia:Ā
In the past, both males and females would stop cutting their hair once they reached adulthood. As children they could cut and wear their hair however they wanted. However, once they reached the age of adulthood (20 for men and 15 for women), they underwent the Chinese coming-of-age ceremony (called Guan Li/å 礼 for men andĀ Ji Li/ē¬ē¤¼Ā for women). They allowed their hair to grow long naturally until death, including facial hair. This was due to Confuciusā teaching that āour bodies - to every hair and bit of skin - are received by us from our parents, and we must notā¦injure or wound them. This is the beginning of filial pietyā. Below - cartoons depicting typical hairstyles of different ages:
Below - depiction of Guan Li (male coming-of-age ceremony). During the Guan Li, the manās hair was combed into a bun and capped with a special headpiece:
When a man entered adulthood, he had to tie his long hair into a bun called Ji/髻 either on or behind his head and cover the bun up with different kinds of headdresses. Below - tutorial of how to create the bun:
A hair stick called Zan/ē°Ŗ goes across the bun to stabilize the hair, like so:
From looking at the Terracotta Warriors, you can see that (at least during the Qin Dynasty) there were variations in the bunās placement and shape, as well as different ways of braiding the hair:
The Chinese TV series Nirvana in Fire does a good job of portraying these distinctive braids:
Men would wear hats and headdresses over their hair, which often signified the wearerās profession or social rank. Below - some of the many, many head-wear options for men:
Thus the ādisheveled hairā, a common but erring depiction of ancient Chinese male figures seen in most modern Chinese period dramas or movies with hair hanging down from both sides and/or in the back, is historically inaccurate.Ā
However, I wonāt deny that this hairstyle can look very good - thereās a reason why itās such a popular depiction nowadays :P
Now some might wonder (as I did) why Jia Baoyu, the principal male character in the classic Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber, is always depicted withĀ ādisheveled hairā, even in paintings and operas, if itās historically inaccurate:
However, it makes sense if you consider that Jia Baoyu is an adolescent during the story. His hairstyle is used to indicate his status as a not-yet adult man.
While the Chinese male bun hairstyle, worn from the earliest times of Chinese history up to the end of the Ming dynasty, has all but disappeared from modern society, it is still worn as a regular hairstyle by one group of people: Taoist priests and practitioners. Below - modern-day Taoists:Ā
Hope this helps!
10 unusual language learning tips !
i see a lot of the same (sometimes unhelpful) tips being thrown around, so hereās my two cents:
1. write shopping lists/to do lists in your target language - often you donāt learn this vocab but itās conversational & v useful! also writing yourself notes (lil pep talks on the bathroom mirror, for example) can work.
2. buy a small whiteboard and practice verb conjugation (esp. romantic languages) or script writingĀ
3. talk to pets in target language if possible!
4. look for quotes in your target language - often the turns of phrase areĀ more colloquial, and is a good opportunity to see how things are translated from your native languageĀ
5. find a fairly easy news headline (in target lang) and try to re-write it w/ vocab you already have. youāll quickly find gaps - this is a good thing! (if youāre feeling extra spicy, try writing a small subheading or description about the article).
6. create an imaginary friend who you speak with on the shower, or on the train, doing the laundry etc. talk w/ them in your target lang (in your head, obvs) about your day, future plans, etc etc.
~for more advanced learners~
7. when youāre more advanced, and have some grasp of past/future tenses, buy a childrenās/tweenās/YA book that youāve already read. highlight and annotate the shit out of it. youāll know the general gist already, which makes context clues easier to find.
8. change wikipedia settings into target language - same goes for any social media site. this can be a mega challenge, but is so good for vocab, plus youāre more likely to remember the info since you worked so hard for it.
9. write a review for a book/film/record/whatever youāve most recently consumed. maybe start a diary of them, or just have an ongoing word doc.
10. find a bilingual edition of poetry/literature if possible. you might find you can spot translation differences, but youāre sure to find some new vocab.

rawest fucking hozier lyrics in no particular order:
iād suffer hell if youād tell me what youād do to me tonight
heat of her breath in my mouth; im alive
iād be the choiceless hope in grief that drove him underground
idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on his sword
and when the earth is trembling on some new beginning with the same sweet shock of when adam first came
every version of me dead and buried in the yard outside
the stench of the sea and the absence of green are the death of all things that are seen and unseen
if I was born as a blackthorn tree iād wanna be felled by you, held by you, fuel the pyre of your enemies
some like to imagine the dark caress of someone else, I guess any thrill will do
before the wave hits, marveling at god; before he feels alone one final time and marries the sea
betray the moon as acolyte on first and fierce affirming sight
i have never known peace like the damp grass that yields to me, I have never known hunger like these insects that feast on me
screaming the name of a foreignerās god; the purest expression of grief
sweet and right and merciful, iām all but washed in the tide of her breathing
but you donāt know the hell you put me through; to have someone kiss the skin that crawls from you
so i try to talk refined for fear that you find out how iām imagining you
my head was war, my skin was soaked, I called your name ātil the fever broke
be still, my indelible friend, you are unbreaking
remember me, love, when iām reborn as a shrike to your sharp and glorious thorn
my mouth
THE RANGE??
