LIFE IS SO COOL WOW
every Porsche vehicle in Russia stopped working, for reasons that are unclear but apparently related to their anti-theft satellite connection, and I need everyone to understand that this is bad.
it's bad if this was intentional and a company can just decide to brick your car remotely whenever they like. it's bad if this was accidental and your car needs a constant connection to a satellite or it stops functioning.
it's bad even though it's Porsche because if they can do it to rich people with luxury cars they can do it to anyone. it's bad even though it's Russia because a) not every Russian is responsible for the acts of the Russian government and b) if they can do it in Russia they can do it anywhere.
this is not a "lol Russia get pwned" moment, this is another example of corporations ending the concept of ownership.
Just realized that the reason I love making friends on tumblr is because it’s exactly how you make friends on the playground as a six year old. No, I don’t know their name but they love mermaids too and built this awesome sand castle. No, I don’t know their age but their imaginary cheetah is friends with mine. You like this show? You like this character?? You can sing the theme song really loud??? Here is a flower crown. Here is a juice box. You can share my time and I might never see you again but part of you stays in my soul forever. In my mind we’re still on the swing set and the sky is blue and nothing will ever be wrong again.
would anyone's imaginary cheetah be friends with mine...
my imaginary cheetah would be friends with yours
okay!

based on that one breaking bad comic
sometimes people experiencing psychosis and/or mania will come up to you on the street and talk in confusing or upsetting ways. your job is to either have a regular human-to-human conversation with that person or politely leave. your job is not to call 911. do not call 911. you might kill that person if you call 911.
I don't even have the energy to screenshot and respond to your tags- what the actual fuck is wrong with you? "the cops are scared and rightfully so" "mental health calls are the scariest for cops" OH so this isn't about the safety of psychotic & manic people this is about piggy feelings?
and no, actually, this is not USA specific and no, actually, people from other countries should not ignore this post. police violence and sanism weren't invented in the US and they are certainly not unique to here. if you (or anyone) thinks that this bullshit doesn't happen elsewhere then you are not listening.
cops r Some Guy with a Gun
do we want Some Guy with a Gun in this situation? answer is usually "NO"
This is legitimately useful reframing. A while ago I started replacing the word "cop" in my vocabulary with "a man with a gun." It really puts things into perspective.
This homeless person is making me uncomfortable. Should I call [a man with a gun]?
My neighbor is having a loud party. Should I get [a man with a gun] involved?
There are some teenagers skateboarding. Do you think [a man with a gun] would get rid of them for me?
It makes it very clear what you're saying. I can call a man with a gun to threaten or hurt someone mildly inconveniencing me. You're not calling the cops, you're calling A MAN WITH A GUN into a situation that does not warrant a firearm handled by a volatile lunatic who will not be held accountable for his actions.
^ ^ ^
you think that you're so alone in the world then you read literature from hundreds of years ago and you realize that other people have always felt this way
Have you guys seen that clip

inquisition was just like this to me
i think there is a difference between a knowingly flawed character and a thematically uncomfortable character and knowing the difference is half the battle
knowingly flawed character: this character has traits that the author deliberately put in to show they have nuance and aren't perfect as a person. this will put them at odds with some readers and endear them to others, depending on them as people, and that's good!
thematically uncomfortable character: oh boy the author has some Beliefs
I legitimately think the first video game to ever say the word "bisexual" out loud was Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. There is a nonzero chance it was actually the first video game to print "bisexual" in a text format.
It is very possible that the first video game character to ever say the word "Bisexual" out loud was Solid Snake.
Based on what I found, the first ever bisexual character in a video game was Curtis Craig from Phantasmagoria 2 (1996) but I have yet to find out if he says the word "bisexual" in the scene where this is revealed
He does not. He says he's attracted to his male best friend but he never says the word "bisexual."
The first ever character to ever correctly and overtly identify a person as bisexual was Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001)
I once again have to point out for those who've never played mgs2 he says this when asked if another character that goes by the name of vamp is a vampire
Everyone here who hasn’t yet needs to see how fucking incredible this whole conversation is.
Snake: “He was at church when a bomb went off, got pierced by a crucifix, survived by drinking his family’s blood.”
Raiden: “So that’s why he’s called Vamp?”
Snake: “No it’s because he’s bisexual.”
they literally deleted all existing reblogs of that post from existence btw<3
and theyre tryin to delete it all again
TV was perfect for tech’s failure narratives—but in Silicon Valley “post-failure” era, will audiences still tune in?
Our latest is live! @elizabethminkel writes about depictions of tech + failure on TV—especially Halt and Catch Fire, Silicon Valley, and new AMC drama The Audacity—and how fictional tech reads in amid current attitudes about real-life tech:
Perhaps it’s our ambivalent relationships with the devices in our pockets, or the LLMs that feel like they’re being thrust into every corner of our lives from on high. Or perhaps it’s the fact that we’ve suffered through watching these tech titans publicly crash out over the past few years—while they continue to toss around words like “trillionaire.” How do we take pleasure in individual setbacks when the whole system feels rotten to the core? Can a show about tech actually succeed in Silicon Valley’s post-failure age?

to all my fellow bisexuals:
it is allowed to hurt. people denying the existence of your sexuality is not acceptance or proxy acceptance or a softer version of homophobia. if you do not get thrown out in the street because you came out and people laughed it off, that is still biphobic rejection. and it matters. if you confessed to your significant other and they denied the possibility or called you confused, that is still biphobic rejection. and it matters. people in your life being in denial about your sexuality, insisting you can just marry someone of the opposite sex or that it doesn't matter bc of whatever partner you're with are telling you plainly that they do not accept or care about you. and it matters. people who make your sexuality about themselves--their insecurities, fears and bigotry--are objectifying and stereotyping you. and it matters.
it is normal to want to be seen and accepted. to want to connect and be understood. it is normal to be devastated when you aren't by people you love. biphobia is allowed to affect you. it is not in your head. biphobia destroys lives and you are supposed to take it personally and seriously. and it is not your fault if this affects your mental health. that disquiet within you is real. that frustration within you is real.
and it matters.
I’ve been working on discomfort testing. I think it’s important for anyone who grew up super chronically online (or everyone really). Basically I try to put myself in situations where I’m uncomfortable with increasing severity. If you think you’re “lazy” because you just can’t force yourself to walk every day or you just can’t force yourself to clean your room or something like that you might wanna try discomfort testing.
I have big and small tests. A small test can look like: setting a 10 minute timer and cleaning as much as I can within that time. Walking around the block and seeing how many times I can tell myself “just one more block.” Forcing myself to read and pay attention to the most boring book I can find in my local library (they don’t usually end up being as boring as they look).
Big tests are like: forcing myself to go to a party where I know my ride is dependent on someone so I can’t leave until they do. Spending an entire day on a boat with no escape. Giving a speech in front of a room full of people.
Sometimes it’s not things I have to do but am too lazy to do but rather it’s about just testing my utmost boundaries to remind myself that I am strong and I can do things that feel hard or impossible. Last week I dunked my whole body in ice water. It was fucking scary. I lived.
Life is a series of forcing yourself to do difficult things. Start young and small and it’ll be easier to do the bigger things when you’re older.
