Rook flirts because Isabela flirts.
He wasn't sure when he'd made the connection, only that - on occassion - he would notice something about himself and realize he did it because Isabela did it.
He supposed it made sense. He'd been nearly an adult when he met her, when she'd saved him from the bloody decks of Tevinter slave galley, but then again he'd never really been a child. Before Isabela and the Lords, he'd been a thing; first a weapon, then a plaything.
Isabela, and Vee and the others, have taught him how to be a person. How to speak, how answer to a name and nothing else, how to read and write and laugh and make choices and mistakes. How to dance and sing and find himself and etc it onto every inch of his skin.
And how to flirt, though he hadn't always had that much intrest on what lingered on the other side of that flirting. But then again, most of the Lords flirted too. Everything was very...open among their ranks. Most people treated sex like an extension of friendship. If you weren't into that, it changed nothing, if you were, it still changed nothing.
Outside the Lords of Fortune though, his mouth had gotten him into trouble. A lot of men didn't like the things Rook said to them, the way he talked, took it as an insult or a challenge of both, but the fights almost always ended in his favor - he didn't need him magic to put most men on their ass - and winning fights was a good reputation for a pirate to have.
He had expected Davrin pick a fight or posture, when Rook caught himself too late with something suggestive coming out of his mouth. If Davrin threw a punch, Rook would let it land. He really didn't want to fight Davrin...
But Davrin hadn't swing on him. Instead he had raised and eyebrow, smiled and said something flirtatious back. Rook nearly swallowed his tongue.
