does anyone else think tvl reads as a litmus test for the writing team to see just how much they can get away with? how much can we absolve lestat of all his wrongdoings and abuse. how racist they can get with their writing and "jokes". how much graphic violence they can depict against black characters. how much flattening of their black and brown cast they can get away with because apparently they made them "too sympathetic" in the previous seasons. just sick.

and in rolin jones' sick and twisted reality, only lestat fans are allowed into the kingdom of heaven while everyone else must suffer.
actually some of us do have ACTUAL complex relationships w our parents and relate to the abuse claudia and louis suffered at the hands of lestat and thats why we dislike this twist hope this helps! among other things its rlly disheartening to see ppls victim blaming takes on abuse after these past few eps...
So, Gabriella was just a sexual abuser without any interiority this season after 6 episodes. These writers have made one of the few prominent female characters in this show and books a one dimensional misogynist caricature after 6 hours of TV. She has had more time spent in incestuous sex scenes than anything to better flesh out her character. I was willing to wait for more of the episodes to come out before I cemented my opinion on her character but I doubt she will get some amazing character development when they are building up to the concert for the finale.
Also side note what’s with the costuming for her character, I feel like narratively the story has been ongoing for at least 2 years and she’s been in the exact same outfit.

like yes, is change possible in abusers? is a loaded question and theres plenty of ways that could go wrong, but i still think that it would have been better to go that route compared to "the abuse never happened"

And yes, Salamander is actually wearing this shirt in the show during the Big Boss scene in e4, it’s just hard to see it clearly because of a vest and the guitar
so lets get this straight... in season 2, sam didn't want lestat to laugh during the louvre scene, but rolin insisted. this season, we skip over the vampire armand chapter of the vampire lestat, which includes his backstory abt being trafficked & a csa victim. we have lestat sing a song alluding to armands history of sexual abuse that's kind of meant to be a shitty thing but also somewhat "justified" (based on what cast & crew have been saying). we see armands fathermakergroomer before any of the history/context between armand & marius. and then we have armand and daniel release a video of lestat being incestuously abused by his mother??? without any sort of commentary on anything??? not to mention the line abt armand erasing the memories of daniel "using a student aggressively" and im supposed to believe this show cares about his character?
just checked, because i am petty like that, that armand has had 11 minutes of screentime this season. assad i am so sorry

the concept of sam and assad having more scenes together in season 2 when lestat is mostly a hallucination vs tvl which is supposed to be the lesmand season... ur joking me
tbh if i was joseph potter acting my ass off in s2, cast for a role that is a quite major part of the future book theyre gonna adapt and THEN i found out theyre cutting my character's screen time and someone is gonna play my doppleganger whos gonna be in more eps than me... id be mad...
Amongst everything else that people rightfully have an issue with this season, I also have an issue with the clothing choices for Assad.
It truly feels this season that the only thing they got for him was that big ass coat, and the rest of his outfits have just been leftovers from whatever the band or Lestat didn't use.
His clothing and hair in IWTV season 2 were so beautifully styled, and this season it all feels like an afterthought.
At first, I figured it was because Armand is feeling the funk this season, but this doesn't work in the scene above.
Armand styles himself to suit whoever he's with. We know time has passed. He should be wearing clothing that matches Daniel's style, it's what he does.
But instead it looks like, yet, again, they threw that stupid coat at him and dug him something out from the lost property department. It's senseless.
genuine question: if they truly ARE getting renewed for s4 (and maybe even s5) is there anything we can do to generate enough backlash so we don't get a repeat of this season????
armand fans are annoying when they wallpaper over his abuse and make him out to be the victim in every situation but ive never seen one actively clamor for the terrible things he did never to have happened, unlike lestat fans. and now we have this complete rewriting of the past 2 seasons and their themes & messages, just to service this group of extremely delusional ppl who want their fave to not be abusive. and i guess that's where the writers are going w the story. "don't believe victims bc theyre lying about their abuse!" this complete dismissal of everything that happened in s1&2 that apparently didnt't /really/ happen or doesnt matter...

this is so not a pressing matter given the everything else of ep 6 but i kind of have to laugh at reviewers saying, "don't worry! armand is in every episode but one!" meanwhile he only has a significant role in like episode 4 where hes acting kind of ooc... in most eps hes not speaking or has like one scene... like you guys didnt have to lie lol... just say his role has been reduced it would be less insulting
aside from the obvious that its extremely insensitive to write a csa victim releasing "revenge porn" of a person being groomed, this "twist" feels so unearned and cheap. it’s like they weren't trying to say anything with it at all. lestat's and armand's abuse of louis are intrinsically facilitated by their vampirism. lestat thinks vampirism will liberate louis. but, louis values humanity, and so he refuses to hunt human. vampirism causes him suffering. this creates a rift in their relationship which lestat perceives as rejection, and he treats louis cruelly (insults and physical violence), aided by their imbalance in vampiric abilities and the knowledge lestat is hiding from louis. this culminates in the drop, where lestat uses the cloud gift to hurt louis.
armand orchestrates the lynching of claudia and louis with the excuse of them "breaking the vampire laws" (even though characters like lestat get away with breaking these same laws). ultimately claudia dies by being exposed to the sun and louis is buried in a coffin. armand continues to lie to louis about his involvement in the trial and erases his memory with the mind gift. vampirism, in both cases, plays a key role in facilitating their abuse.
there is nothing vampiric about armand and daniel releasing “revenge porn" against lestat!! no commentary to be found on how the predatory nature of vampirism enables these characters to act on their worst impulses and hurt others, or how the structures of vampirism create and perpetuate power dynamics. it's just some shitty euphoria type of twist that could have happened in any other show. not to mention that it is not approached with any sense of tact, empathy or sensitivity. it’s not meaningfully nuanced in a way that has anything to say about any of the characters.
