"You'll be left behind if you don't get onboard with AI!" okay let's assume for a second that AI is The Future or whatever. Let's assume that it will be the cornerstone of all future work. Let's assume that, like the investment guys floating on the surface of the bubble are desperate to have us believe, It Is Inevitable. Frankly I still don't think I'd lose much by ignoring it until that day comes. Like I simply do not believe that prompt engineering could take all that long to learn. Call me naive but I think that if AI became critical for my life tomorrow, somebody telling me how to access chatGPT (I imagine they've got a website or an app or something?) and being like "Remember how you used to use google when it still actually worked? Start there" would be enough. I think I could figure it out in like an hour, tops, by fucking around with the site and maybe looking up some tips on reddit. So like. Even if "AI is the future" did somehow magically turn out to be true, I don't see how that affects me at all right now or why anybody bothers saying so. "AI is the future, if you were smart you'd be using it!" no I wouldn't. It still wouldn't be a skill that's worth my time to learn yet. Pointless addition to the discussion. Maybe I'm dunning-krugered or something but I simply do not think that it would be difficult enough that I would need to start practicing right now or I'm missing out on something.

"You'll need AI in a decade so you should get familiar with it now!" I think if you start getting familiar with it now, and I start getting familiar with it in a decade, we're going to end up at the same proficiency pretty quickly. Doesn't seem like the kind of skill where "X years of experience" is relevant. I don't think that's a skill gap that would be hard to close.

You cannot simultaneously have a "it's easy for everyone to learn! Impossible to fuck up!" pitch and a "you MUST learn how to use it RIGHT NOW" pitch for the same product and expect to get taken seriously

"i can't benefit from oppressive power structures, i'm literally nice :)" is a disturbingly common sentiment on here and if u express it then i can never trust u again

would also like to add – maybe you don’t even dislike coffee. but…you don’t like it either. you’ll drink it, you think it’s okay, sometimes even good, but you’ll never go out of your way to have some. you pass the aisle at the grocery store. you hang out at coffee shops for the atmosphere and you definitely get why people like it, can see the allure, but it’s just something you can live without.

Hot take but I don't think games need to tutorialize the player on stuff like "enemies will drop items when you defeat them" like that's just something that I can observe happens with my own brain. I don't need a tutorial popup for that. Stop it.

As someone who started playing video games as an adult, yes they should still tell you things like that.

There’s a whole language to video games that a lot of people who have been playing them forever think is common sense but it really isn’t. I’ve gotten lost in one way dungeons before and have played video games for like 12+ hours before figuring out that I was doing the wrong kind of attack this whole time. Because a lot of video games are made for people who already understand the language of video games. If you don’t speak this language and the game doesn’t tell you how to read it, it’s like trying to navigate an unfamiliar city in a language you don’t speak with the top half of your vision gone.

atla just so happened to write one of the most insane and complex brother sister relationships in all of television, and yet for some reason everyone focused on zuko and azula instead, even though they are basically just normal siblings, and as such not even that interesting ..

Ah Paretta. Never change. This dude starts fights and wins every year that he plays in the charity game. And better yet, he doesn't just pick a random cop that's playing. He specifically spends all year researching which ones have beat their spouses or are being investigated for corruption, then mocks them and eggs them on social media for like 6 months straight just to make sure they know ahead of time they're getting their ass beat.

They don’t even need to be high-level. Active people who are just regular folks are some of the most expensive people for health care systems. When I lived in Boulder, a professor pointed out that the city had some of the highest orthopedic costs in the country, just from the bicyclists, runners and joggers, hikers, mountain climbers and others breaking bones during recreational pursuits.
