In case anyone finds it helpful because mobility aids are horrifically expensive and inaccessibleā¦
And for those people who have access to mobility devices but might benefit from a second chair they can abuse without risking expensive damageā¦
Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.
He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.
It's incredibly sad people have to resort to this, but it's a damn good resource. Use it. Spread awareness. Maybe one day people with physical disabilities won't need DIYs like this. But until then, reblog and share.

ultimately the best way to prevent abuse is to organize society in such a way that everyone's needs are met wothout having to rely on a parent or employer or boyfriend or any one individual. obviously wont stop, like, manipulation or so on, but the ability to dangle basic needs over someone's head is one of the most powerful and consistant tools of abuse out there. if someone is able to just leave, and know that they will have access to food and shelter and clean water and education, that will enable so, so mamy victims of abuse to do just that.
really funny how like 10% of the comments are people going "nuh uh" and the remaining 90% are people going "this is literally whats happening to me/my mom/etc Right Now"
Emergency cleaning: Unfuck your whole house in the shortest time possible
So, your landlord/parents/home inspector/favorite movie star is dropping by, and your place is a disaster. You donāt have much time to clean it up. Youāre in emergency mode. Letās get started.
Donāt panic. Panic leads to fear, fear leads to procrastination, procrastination leads to the dark side. You can do this, but you have to stay calm.
Unlike maintenance cleaning, weāre not looking to completely unfuck one space at a time. Instead, we want to decrease the overall mess in stages, spread evenly across the whole area that weāre concerned about. If you think your home is at Level 10 filth, we want to bring the whole thing down to a Level 9, and then down from there. One really clean spot in an otherwise messy home is not going to be helpful here.
Get prepared. Youāll want to shut the computer down (or turn the modem off if you need your computer to play music). Trust me. Get your music going. Gather up trash bags, your vacuum and mop, some rags or paper towel, sponges, and other cleaning supplies. Use what you have on hand. Donāt get distracted running to the store and spending an hour browsing cleaning supplies. A multi-purpose cleaning concentrate or a jug of vinegar will be just fine.
Breaks are very important. Depending on your time constraints, work in 20/10s (20 minutes working, 10-minute break) or 45/15s. But take breaks because otherwise youāre marathoning, and marathon cleaning is no oneās friend. Keep hydrated, donāt forget to eat, and check in with yourself frequently to make sure youāre physically doing OK.
Make your bed. This will be your home base if you get overwhelmed or need somewhere clear to take a break.
Start with the garbage. Going from room to room, throw out anything that is obvious trash. Once you fill a bag, take it out. Repeat as many times as necessary.
Move on to dishes. Gather the dishes from all over your house and bring them to the kitchen. If you can, start them soaking in a sink of hot, soapy water or start loading the dishwasher. After the dishes are all in one place, spend one 20/10 getting started getting them under control.
Now itās time for your flat surfaces. Countertops, tables, dresser tops, etc. Clear them off and wipe them down. Donāt get distracted in too much sorting and organizing. Weāre in crisis mode here. There will be time to get in-depth once this is all done. The same applies to cabinets and closets. Unless you have reason to believe people will be opening closed doors, leave these alone for now.
Attack the floordrobe and shoe pile. Get your clothes either put away or in the hamper. Start a load of laundry if you need to, but keep in mind that laundry and dishes have three steps: wash, dry, and put it away, goddammit!
Get random stuff up off the floors. If something is trash-worthy, throw it away now rather than just move it around a bunch of times. Otherwise, put stuff where it belongs.
Take another 20/10 or 45/15 to catch up on more dishes, if needed.
Head into the bathroom. Pour some cleaner in the toilet bowl, fill the sink with hot water and cleaner, and either spray the tub and shower with cleaner, or fill the tub up with some hot water and add cleaner and let it soak. Put everything away thatās out and shouldnāt be, clean the mirror, counters, and toilet seat. Sweep or dry mop the floor. Wipe down the sink and tub/shower, and give the toilet bowl a scrub. Mop the floor.
Sweep and mop the kitchen floor.
Vacuum everything you can, and sweep everything you canāt.
Walk outside of your house (donāt lock yourself out, please). Walk back in and see what catches your eye first. Go and deal with that.
If youāre being inspected or your landlord is coming in for repairs, spend time on whatever area theyāll be focusing on.
Give the whole place one more once-over and pay attention to anything youāve missed so far.
Itās an old trick, but if your place is a little funky-smelling, put a pan of water on the stove on low heat and add some citrus or cinnamon or vanilla. Donāt leave it unattended or forget about it.
Take a shower, put on something clean, and eat something.
You can do this. Itās overwhelming, yes, but it is not impossible. You just need to do it. You have a list. You have directions. You have a whole bunch of Internet strangers who have been there before and who are cheering you on. You can do this, but you need to get started.
the number of times in my past that I desperately wanted/needed someone to sit me down and tell me this stuff. I will never get back the hours and hours lost to headless-chicken mode, but itās nice to know that in the last year Iāve learned so many coping mechanisms :D
thereās a post on tumblr about like. if you could do something to bring people a little relief, why wouldnāt you do it? which has unironically informed my practice as a nursing student and patient care tech
Something I heard from a friend a few years ago really changed my understanding of boundaries. A boundary is necessarily has to be something you can enforce.
"Do not call me after 9" is not a boundary. I can't control someone else's actions
"I do not pick up the phone after 9" is a boundary, I can choose if I pick up or not

Yeah sure Tumblr is a hellsite but I know someone who wrote a fanfic in the 1990s that someone else didnāt like, so when she was selling printed copies of the zine with the story in it out of her hotel room at a convention, this other woman STOOD IN FRONT OF HER DOOR TO REFUSE PEOPLE ACCESS. Because the story featured a ship she disliked. And I feel like somehow, 10,000 TumblrsĀ stillĀ canāt compare to that level of Extra.
Iāve actually heard about this event [or a similar event, which I can believe] from someone who was trying to get into the room to either buy the zine, or visit with the writer, or just see what was going on [idr]. Apparently it was quite the talk of the bar that night, and resulted in several heated [re: drunken] debates over whether Door Stander was violating Writerās free speech, or if removing Door Stander would have violated Door Standerās free speech.
Me, at the time, a 19yo with very little understanding of the law: āI meanā¦was it?ā
Fandom Friend, who was a 40-something lawyer: āIāll tell you the same thing I told everyone in that bar. No one was violating anyoneās free speech. Bitch was just being rude, and worse, obnoxious about it. You ever act like that in public, be aware youāre not changing anyoneās opinion. Youāre just giving them a brand new opinion about you.ā
It was a very formative conversation in my young adulthood.
Same person also told me to never mix coke and acid. Which was also pretty solid advice.
Danny led them further into the dark, musty manor, into an area without windows where they had to pull out flashlights and a spell to fight the gloom. Danny reached into the wall and pulled something, thankfully the mechanism was fully manual and the lack of electricity didn't stop the hidden door from creaking slowly open.
Jason put a hand on Danny's shoulder, "We got it from here, go find Kenny or Artemis."
"Yeah⦠okay." Danny quickly turned and left the room.
"I've gone into worse," Roy joked as he led the way down the dark stairs.
Jason put on a face mask, attached a flashlight to his shoulder, and put another in his hand, then took up the rear. The flashlights were pretty redundant with Zatanna using a spell to light the way, but Jason liked the reassurance of having his own light.
The stairs led directly into the lab, and what a mess it was. The dust was just as thick as the rest of the building, making Jason glad for the mask. There was plenty of equipment and tools scattered around on work tables, some having fallen to the floor. Jason could just see a row of tubes further in the room
"Oh its thicker here," Boston commented. "I'd say it's almost as thick here as Nanda Parbat."
"That's saying something," Zatanna commented. "But yes, the air is thrumming with power."
"Guess we'll need to bring Danny down and see of he absorbs it?" Jason asked.
"Oof, not without covering these first," Roy called, pointing to the row of tubes.
Jason walked over to get a closer look and cringed internally. The tubes were full of murky, scummy water and corpses in the middle of decomposing. One tube had a clone leaning against the glass, useless oxygen mask still attached to its face half full of murky water, and skin slowly peeling away around said mask. Black, shaggy hair nearly covered half lowered lids and the milky, unseeing eyes under them.
"Think we can nick some bed sheets to throw over 'em?" Boston asked casually.
"Suppose we could," Jason agreed. Danny would know exactly why they were there, but at least he wouldn't have to see.
"If it helps they're empty, never had a soul." Boston casually gestured at the tubes.
Jason wasn't sure if it did.
Zatanna had wandered further into the lab, heading for the back wall. Jason followed, stopping a bit behind her as she cast spells at the empty doorway that probably used to be Vlad's portal. Zatanna grimaced, "They really somehow managed to punch a hole directly to the deepest parts of the other side of the veil, completely bypassing the areas where the veil brushes with our world."
"Yeah?" Jason wasn't sure what that meant.
"No wonder the beings on the other side were so powerful, it's so far beyond our realm it's basically a higher dimension."
"Like Mr. Mxyzptlk?"
Zatanna's head whipped around to stare at Jason. "What?!"
Jason shrugged, "I never met the guy, I just know he's some 'fourth dimensional imp' that sometimes bugs Supes for shits and giggles." B's reports made for good bedtime reading, they were so boring they always put Jason right to sleep.
Zatanna rubbed at her forehead, "Yes, like him. Please don't go around saying the names of fourth dimensional beings, that's how you get their attention."
"A'ight."
"So, quick question," Roy announced. "Can you just send Danny to whatever's on the other side of this portal that doesn't exist?"
"Theoretically," Zatanna said slowly. "It would take a lot of time, effort, and would drain several mages working together. Danny does have allies there, if we did manage to send him through we could hope he finds his way to them and maybe they can help him. But humans aren't meant to wander that deep, just crossing to the other side of the veil can change us, let alone getting dropped in the deep end the way Danny did when he died. Eventually his human half would fade until he becomes a full ghost."
"Right, so that's not the plan," Jason stated.
"Yeah, no kidding," Roy agreed.
"Does any of this tell us why he's still trapped in Amity Park?"
"That may actually be psychosomatic," Zatanna said before turning her attention back to the portal.
Jason furrowed his brows, "Didn't Danny say ghosts are made of emotions? Wouldn't everything be psychosomatic?"
"Technically yes, which makes finding a solution harder. Perhaps if we moved all the victims to a proper graveyardā¦"
"Dig up and somehow identify each individual in the mass grave you found," Jason said in a deadpan.
"That would take forever, the DEO is out there right now," Roy whined.
"Well, we can offer and see how that affects him," Zatanna said with a huff.
"How about we start with covering the clone tubes and get Danny down here, see if absorbing his weird death goo radiation improves anything," Jason stated, then turned and headed for the stairs.
It took a bit of hunting, but they eventually found a (very gauche) bedroom with all the bedding still on the bed. They bundled the whole set up and threw the blankets and sheets over the clone tubes. That done, it was time to go find Danny and bring him down to the lab to hopefully get a boost. Zatanna and Boston stayed down in the basement while Jason and Roy wandered off to find their wayward ghostboy. They found Artemis barricading the grand front entrance, she hadn't seen Danny or Kenny since they had arrived.
"⦠hesitant, little ghost will be sickly." Biz's voice carried from around a corner.
"I hope so," Danny said as if he didn't believe it. He perked up when Jason and Roy rounded the corner, smiling up at them from where he and Biz were sitting on the floor across from a barricaded door. "Hi! Kenny and I were just talking, he helped me realize something!" Danny hopped to his feet in excitement, "He reminded me that I had said ghosts need purpose, and I lost mine again. So maybe if I find a new purpose it'll help."
Jason sighed, he was not equipped for what he was about to do. "What's wrong with the whole bridge thing?"
"Well, it's not like there's much bridging I can do when there's no ghosts around."
"Telling people who don't know what's going on about ghosts and how everything works is also being a bridge. You said it yourself, you don't have to be kicking ass to be a bridge."
"I⦠I guess," Danny said uncertainly.
"Listen, kid, you may be ghost but you're also still human, tying your entire identity to one thing, one goal or mission or whatever you want to call it, that's a one way ticket to misery. Either yourself or everyone around you. Get more goals, get a hobby, make friends. Well, once we figure this out and get you out of here, anyway."
Danny's face fell, "I did have all that."
Jason groaned, silently, in his own head. "Yeah, it sucks that was all taken from you." Jason paused, unsure what to say next. He decided a change of subject might be in order, "Zatanna and Boston said the basement is thick with freaky death energy, wanna go down there and see if you can absorb it?"
"Sure, why not?" Danny walked past them, heading towards the secret stairway.
"That went well," Roy said hesitantly.
"Red him did great," Bizarro said before following after Danny.
i saw a post earlier today and now i canāt find it but someone was like the only reason i get through studying is by saying āletās go steal a gradeā where they just imagine theyāre doing research for a leverage con and they have to know all the information to pull it off successfully. Iām at my internship rn and i found the original score for the og show and redemption and let me tell you i have never been more productive
Replace imposter syndrome with the conman method! You're a fraud, and you're such a competent fraud that the mark is never going to realize what hit them until the gloat.
The Rodeo Rule: you only have to do it for the first time once.
The Rohan Rule: if you are at a social function full of new people and you want to be liked, find someone doing important work like setup or food prep and offer to help.
The Tutorial Mode Rule: to navigate an unfamiliar situation where you fear you will mess up an interaction, preface the interaction by mentioning that you've never done this before, and let them know if you have a specific concern or question.

Hey, weāre in line for some absurd temperatures here in the southwest this week. This is very important to know and keep in mind. Be safe, stay hydrated, stay out of the sun as much as you can.
Pleased to report that after a day of this i am not longer craving caper brine and my mouth is not dry as usual. There's some good suggestions in the notes too that I want to try.
-ancient roman posca: water, red or white wine vinegar, honey, salt, herbs (coriander, mint, thyme)
-switchel: water, ginger, vinegar, sweetener, lemon, salt
hey parents: there is literally no non-abusive reason a person would want the ability to read someoneās emails, track their location, and go through their calls and text messages without their knowledge or consent.
I want to address the person who tagged this āwhat if theyāre missing??ā
Google Trusted Contacts.
thatās it, thatās the answer.
what this does is allow you to set up a list of people who are able to request your location. when they do so, you have five minutes to either refuse or grant the request. if you donāt respond within five minutes, the request is automatically accepted, in case youāre hurt or otherwise unable to get to your phone. your trusted contacts can also see how recently you used your device.
in other words: if someone genuinely wants to know if youāre okay, they can check the app and see that youāve used your phone five minutes ago, and that can be the end of it. if they want to be doubly sure, or it says you havenāt used your phone recently, they can request your location. if you want them to know where you are, or you canāt answer, theyāll have your exact location within five minutes. if you donāt want them to know where you are, you click deny, and they still see that you got the request and responded to it, meaning, again, they know youāre okay. this is safety with accountability: you canāt track someoneās location without their consent unless they fail to respond to the notification, and you canāt do it without them knowing about it.
if you want to track a friend or loved one for genuine safety reasons, set this up. it gives you all the access you need if your concern is actually for the other personās well-being, rather than a desire for control. (itās not out for iOS yet, but Google says thatās coming soon).
(also: donāt be the jackass that makes a rule that someone has to accept all your location requests because that makes you just as bad as the people who install tracking shit covertly.)
Itās not abusive in any way for a parent to want to know where their underage child is and who theyāre talking to, and saying so is a foul misuse of the term āabuseā.
anyway like I said there is literally no non-abusive reason a person would want the ability to read someoneās emails, track their location, and go through their calls and text messages without their knowledge or consent
a world where parents are an order of magnitude more dangerous to children than āadults grooming them on the internetā, and giving parents unchecked powers of surveillance is for that reason alone more likely to put kids at risk than to keep them safe.
I live in this world:
a world where the psychologically debilitating effects of surveillance are well-established and well-known, yet adults do everything in their power to invade young peopleās privacy and then ask dumbass questions like āwhy are kids so anxious?ā and come up with answers like āitās probably because of selfiesā
I live in this world:
a world where invasion of privacy is recognized as an integral part of emotional abuse, but parents still get away with it because ātheyāre just doing it to keep them safe uwu~ā, despite the fact that this is the same line the goddamn NSA gives us and most of us donāt take that sack of lies from them.
tldr, I live in a world where youāre not just wrong, youāre promoting attitudes that are actively harmful and you need to sit down, shut up, and listen when people are trying to educate you about issues of justice and safety.
Recent discourse reminds me of that cult indoctrination trick that's often used to weed out more difficult marks early on, where they tell you all that you aren't allowed to eat rice on Tuesdays and then if you protest they go "wow SOMEBODY likes rice a little much huh" as if you're the fucking weirdo who cares too much about how much rice is consumed between Monday and Wednesday instead of them.
And this forces you to decide whether your autonomy matters to you more than the approval of the group - while they'll still act like you're on thin ice either way, if you give in at this point they know you're theirs forever, because now they've established a foothold, you've shown a moral weakness, which they will brand you with so it can be used against you in the future ("hey RICE-addict here doesn't want help break into the city records office") to force you to double-down and isolate you further.
And if instead you do decide to push back further, after your abrupt departure from the group ("You're seriously leaving us over RICE?!? Seriously?") and subsequent ostracism, you can then be used as a demonstration to the others who were more pliable, of how the outgroup is full of people like you who are obsessed with violating the No-Tuesday-Rice rule to the point where they'll abandon all their friends, who cared so much for them, so it clearly isn't an arbitrary restriction, you're the kind of monster these rules are intended to protect them from, thus all the other wise and esoteric precepts of the charismatic leader are implied to be equally justified.
This isn't just for cults either! Shitty partners, bosses, friends - they all do variants of this where if you kick back the first time they make an unreasonable request, it proves you weren't ever committed since you'd let such a small thing ruin everything. And of course, if it's the third or the tenth unreasonable thing they ask of you, it's SUCH A SMALL THING to be a deal-breaker at this late point in your relationship!

i had a dream last night that the entire world used a currency (?) called angrypennies which as the name implies are obtained by experiencing anger. the stronger and more intense your anger was, the more angrypennies you'd gain. an all-consuming rage would earn you more than a slight irritation, etc. so people were always searching for ways to fuel their anger and purposefully keeping themselves angry all the time because they wanted to earn angrypennies. unclear if angrypennies could be exchanged for goods and services, or if they were just a collectible.
anyway, as if this wasn't heavy-handed enough, at one point british comedian greg davies appeared and explained that angrypennies couldn't be worth feeling angry all the time. this was a real revelation to dream-me and i was finally able to break free of the angrypenny grind and allow myself to experience emotions other than anger.
it goes without saying that i will be using the word angrypenny as if it was part of the common vernacular instead of a term that my dreaming brain conjured up i.e. "he's all about the angrypennies" (derogatory way to refer to a guy who searches for reasons to be angry and possibly lacks introspection)
AKA "Officer Dick Grayson finds out he has a 13-year old son. It's too bad Dick only finds out because the coroner's office calls him." DPxDC Prompt idea! (TW: Mentions of child death. Danny is only half-dead, don't worry.)
John Doe: Approximately 13 years of age, black hair, blue eyes, 5'1, relation to Richard John Grayson. Cause of death unknown.
Dick never expected to be a father, much less... like this. The boy is so small, close to Damian's physique, but seemingly so much more fragile where he's laid out on the metal gurney. The medical examiner graciously allowed Dick a few moments alone in the morgue with his boy. And now that Dick's looking, he can see the resemblance. Curly black hair, thick eyebrows, that curved nose. Dick can see bits of his mother, his father, himself, in this kid. There's a little divot in his cheek that Dick is sure would've been a dimple if the kid smiled wide enough, just like his own.
The kid, John - and God, that's his Dad's name, too - is wearing the same street clothes he was brought in with. A well-worn grey hoodie, baggy jeans, and sneakers. He didn't even have anything with him - no phone, wallet, keys, nothing to identify him other than the DNA results which matched him to Dick.
Gently, Dick brushes the tangle of curls away from John's face.
"Spoczywaj w pokoju." His voice is tight with grief. Being a police officer in Bludhaven means he's seen his share of violence, being Nightwing even more so, but the death of a kid is hard to swallow. But this isn't just any kid. This is his kid. His kid, who Dick should've been there for. First steps, first words, first everything. (It's like Jason all over again. Dick wasn't good enough. He didn't know, didn't save him, couldn't-)
"Um. This is awkward."
Dick jerks back, accidentally slamming his knee against the leg of the gurney while his foot skids against the floor, a loud squeaking sound overlapping with Dick's own muffled cursing. Suddenly, Dick's on the floor looking up at the definitely-not-dead-kid sitting up on the gurney. He's sheepishly thumbing at the strand of hair Dick had pushed away from his face earlier. There's a pinkish flush tinging his cheeks and ears. So different, so alive, compared to the rigor mortis-blue color he was moments ago.
"What... How? You-," He's trying to piece together what the hell is happening while the kid - his kid - swings his legs over the gurney. He winces and stretches out his legs as if... stiff. (He was more than just stiff, the kid was dead. The medical examiner said he had no pulse, no brain activity, was likely dead for hours before being found. So how..?)
"Yeah, sorry. Sometimes, I-um. Sleep really hard? Uh. I'm Danny. Can I leave... or...?"
"Officer Grayson." Dick's muscle memory, his Robin training, takes over and the everything (grief, self-hatred, rage, devastation) compartmentalizes in his brain. "You were documented as deceased on site. We'll need to get you checked out at the ED and fill out some paperwork. We need to contact your... your parents."
Do you know? Dick desperately wants to say, do you know I'm your parent? Your dad? Another, angrier part of him wants to know just who Jo-Danny's guardians are so he can rip into them for letting their kid die. Because now that the emotions are tucked away, repressed deep down, Dick can reason Danny is probably a meta of some kind. Maybe with some sort of super-healing ability.
Except Danny looks more panicked by this, hands coming up as if to placate Dick. And then he's pointing behind Dick with a dramatic gasp. Dick whips around, hand automatically going to his shoulder where his escrima sticks usually are, only to see... nothing. He turns back around... only to see nothing. Danny's gone. His son-.
(Danny edges around the cop, turning intangible as he slips through the door of the morgue. He flies haphazardly until he's a couple blocks from the hospital and finds his way to the bus station. Ancients. Who knew falling asleep on the bus would cause such a nightmare? Sure, he looks a little dead when he's asleep and maybe he stops breathing, but people in Amity were nice enough not to call EMS on him every time he takes a nap. Now he has to find a bus from Bludhaven to back Gotham. Distantly, Danny sees a flicker of a light in the sky, kind of shaped like a demented bat... On second thought, maybe he'll get an Uber.)
