🚨 We Need Your Kindness to Survive 🚨
Hello, My name is Mosab Elderawi, and I live in Gaza with my family. Life here has become harder than I ever imagined, and I’m writing this with hope in my heart that you might hear our story.
The ongoing war has devastated my family. We’ve lost 25 family members—each one a beloved part of our lives, taken too soon. I miss them deeply—their laughter, their presence, their love. Every day is a reminder of this unimaginable loss.

We are now facing daily challenges to survive—things that most people take for granted, like food, clean water, and a safe place to sleep. The harsh realities of life here have replaced our dreams with the constant fight for survival.
Our Current Situation:
💔 Lost Stability: The war has left us without work or a stable source of income. 🍞 Basic Needs: Food and water are becoming harder to afford with rising prices and scarce resources. 📚 Dreams on Hold: Like so many here, my family’s dreams have been replaced by the need to simply survive. 😢 Unimaginable Loss: Losing 25 loved ones has left a void that can never be filled.
How You Can Help:
I’m sharing our story with the hope that someone out there might care. Even $5 can make a big difference for us, and if you’re unable to donate, just reblogging this post can help spread the word.
Your kindness, no matter how small, is something we’ll never forget.
What This Means to Us:
Your support is not about changing our entire situation—it’s about giving us a little relief, a little hope, and a way to keep going. We are not asking for much, and we understand if you can’t donate. Sharing our story is just as valuable to us as a donation.
Thank you for reading this far. It means the world to us to know that someone is listening. Your kindness gives us strength and helps us believe in a better tomorrow.
With all our gratitude, Mosab Elderawi and Family ❤️

Oh no it’s one of my hyperfixations.
So fun fact I am currently in school to learn how to build affordable housing. They don’t teach you how to murder strip malls so I must learn this on my own. Someday the two will fuse and I will be an angel of death for shopping centers. This is my calling.
There have been attempts to turn malls into affordable housing. Sadly retrofitting commercial properties into habitable living spaces is usually more expensive than just making a new building. All that big empty space with uniform climate control is cool and all but it’s not habitable living quarters. you know what it’s GREAT for????
HYPER-LOCAL AGRICULTURE BAYBEEEEEEE
Indoor farming got a bad rep recently because it couldn’t become profitable fast enough to satisfy the capitalists funding it. But these places have loads of height for more space-efficient vertical farms, and while plants won’t need the blasted AC of most shopping malls, they probably do appreciate a steady climate (something that’s getting harder to find outdoors).
“But wait,” you say, “the food court has all those fully outfitted kitchens. It would be a waste not to incorporate that into daily living.”
hello????????? Literal farm-to-table restaurants that grow their vegetables right across the hallway are you KIDDING ME??????????????? (better keep that shit cheap tho no gentrification on my watch)
“But wait wait wait,” you say again, “how can it be *local* farming when there’s no housing nearby? Also this isn’t about food we need fucking housing????”
I hear you, man, I hear you. But you know what is right around a shopping mall? Acres upon acres of the most depressing use of land in history: fucking dog shit crusty ass empty fucking parking lots.
The amount of space these bad boys take up is STAGGERING, and it’s often enough to fit an entire neighborhood. Just check out what this one architect in Maine did to replan the Portland mall (they won an award for it):
*everything on that map that’s in color is currently flat cement*
One mid-sized mall in Maine can fit an entire downtown area WITH GREEN SPACE in its parking lot, and *still have room for parking.*
So yeah, the housing in malls idea is cool thinking. Think bigger. WAY bigger.
Think of all the space strip malls and their parking lots take up. Imagine all that space becoming housing and small businesses and third spaces and NATURE.
These stores are dying fast. The real estate is cheap as fuck. It is extremely doable within the next decade. We just have to fucking do it.
that is such a good idea! I honestly don’t know for sure, but if you can get the department to support & put their weight behind a proposal, it might be possible.
if you’re genuinely interested & willing to put in the effort, developing a plan for how specifically the university could go about doing that & what it could be used for absolutely sounds like something you could look into for a student project/independent study (which is for credit!) Depending how that goes you could then present it to university admin and make the case.
Again, this would be quite a bit of work so don’t do it if you don’t want to, but my advice for a starting point (as a rando grad student on the internet mind you) would be to take a look online at the faculty in the agriculture department, try to figure out whose work aligns most closely (aka, who would get excited about the idea!), & reach out to one or more to arrange a meeting. They hopefully can help point you in the right direction! If you can do some research on a specific location you might want to pick & maybe some other logistics about indoor farming before you go, that will be super helpful going in. I can’t guarantee anything but that’s where I’d start!
Feel free to hit me up if you ever decide to do this—i would love to know how things go/support however I can!
whenever i’m talking to someone and they tell me about something that happened to them i always tell them about something that happened to me that’s similar to what happened to them. i do it as kind of a “oh hey yeah this happened to me so i can relate to what you’re going through” but i’m always afraid it comes out as “oh yeah well this happened to me so clearly i have it tougher than you” or “i’m done talking about you let’s talk about me”
i swear i don’t mean it like that……..
I run into this a lot with my job - so instead of telling the whole story I say something like, “Oh my gosh, I had something REALLY similar happen. What did you do after that??” And I’ve found that works. Usually they explain and then ask, “So what happened to you?” And then you’re invited to share, and the formula for conversing continues on. :)
of all the tumblr posts i’ve read, this one is going to change my life the fastest lol.
Thanks to both the OP for posting a thing that so many of us do, and the responder who gave us a better way to do it. You’re doing the lord’s work, my friend!

I love vandalizing things with positive statements. I put mental health stickers on all the bosses nameplates and no one knows it was me. I keep writing corny stuff on every whiteboard I find. I drew a 💩 on the toilet paper roll so the next person gets a giggle. I just. Happy vandalism.

"Something needs to be done about all the unemployed drug addicts mooching off of the working class."
You want fewer unemployed drug addicts? There's an elephant in the room. Stop drug testing for employment.
Literally the entire purpose of drug testing is to find drug users and turn them into unemployed drug users. So if you want fewer unemployed drug users, the obvious solution is to stop creating them.
And don't give me that "but what about safety" spiel. There's nothing wrong with a worker using drugs on their time off. If you're that concerned about workers being too mentally impaired to perform a dangerous job, your main concern would be workers being overworked. There are many workers who are exhausted from working long hours or multiple jobs and who are prohibited from taking too many breaks. That's much more dangerous than a worker using drugs when they're not working. So the solution would be to make sure everyone can afford the cost of living without needing to burn themselves out at work.
But something tells me it's not safety that matters to you. You just want someone you can feel superior to.
So when my mom was going back to school for her masters, I was a little kid and got enrolled in the on-campus pre-school where they give people going into child care professions some hands on experience while also offering a free place to drop off your kid when going to class.
Anyway I found the portfolio they made of me back then and honestly this one entry almost made me cry when I got to the end.

This is why I hate the like, casual ha ha aren’t men awful jokes that people like to casually throw around.
Like, men are victims of the patriarchy too, and loneliness and isolation is what brings out the worst in people.
I’m not saying you have to be nice to or defend wretched men, but don’t treat them as wretched just because they are men. Treat them as wretched because they are wretched.
The interactions I watch my boyfriend have now that he passes have really changed my perception of what it is like for men, and frankly, it's bleak in some fundamental ways I didn't understand.
Friendliness is taken differently. Women interact very differently, there's not as much casual small talk like women in my part of the country will make between each other, that becomes a sudden gap, a lack of daily friendliness that is so, so wonderful. People make small talk differently. Showing happy interest in a child like waving at a toddler in a shopping cart, a NORMAL THING TO DO that is good for a small child's development and sense of security, is kind of sus suddenly. Men speak differently to one another and it can get weird, you hear people say the quiet stuff out loud, or hear people say things they wouldn't say to a woman (not all of it bad as in gross, some of it bad as in oh man you have trauma my guy, this is not how it should be).
It's not, like, REALLY bad for him, but we are adults with partners and an existing friends group. It would be such a different scene if he were younger, dating age, cis, surrounded by cis men, raised cis...the emotional landscape is...not great.
This is toxic masculinity, and it is not a reason for pity or making excuses, but a reason for sympathy.
"Plenty of people go through bad shit and don't become assholes." Yeah but some of us DO. I did. Not with masculinity stuff, it was other stuff, but I was a fucking asshole. I had to work on that and recover from it. And the environment a lot of men find themselves in is not super conducive to doing that.
"I want better for you too" is better than "your problems are your own fault". You have to give a fuck about other people. You just do. You cannot hate or dismiss entire groups of people because of characteristics that are beyond their control, even when those characteristics bestow significant privilege.
"This is a good thing you're trying to do" is better than "don't expect praise for being a decent human". Actually, I'm the kind of person who thinks it is very very important to thank people for doing things like chores and other stuff they should be doing. I think praising people for the slightest fucking thing is important, because I have lived without that and it was so very hurtful. And I think pointing out when a man is being a decent guy in an area where men are often not so decent is a good thing to do.
This isn't even about being nice to men because their help is needed. It's about being nice to people when people need help, and there's some kinds of help that men don't get as much of. And as we see above, that is just so very, very sad.
Toxic masculinity can make men behave in some pretty unempathetic ways. But our own sexist* ideas about how men are/should be can make us be pretty unsympathetic as well. I think that we need to work on that.
* "All women have an innate mothering urge and their connection to their children is always stronger than men's" is a sexist idea. The idea that men need less support for child loss is derived from that. It's a sexist idea too.

i actually really enjoy when people leave random objects in art galleries and people start treating them as if they're art. I think it puts people into a headspace where they start looking at normal objects differently and its an opportunity for them to realize that they can do this too outside of a gallery setting. You're not dumb or tricked for seeing something on the floor of a gallery and trying to figure it out or appreciating it as an art object. The world is full of beautiful and interesting objects even some random garbage on the street is worthy of that same level of examination. Theres art everywhere if you're primed to see it.
The wise object enjoyer can build a gallery the size of the whole world, and appreciate every work within.
This picture of a UPS worker delivering a package on 9/11 right after the second tower was hit is so fascinating to me. I totally would have used two buildings being blown up and the city infrastructure pausing as an excuse to not do my job. Just go back to the depot and call it a day. But no he’s bravely delivering that Backstreet Boys poster or whatever while everyone else stares at the buildings behind him in shock. Went “Well, that sucks. Can’t do anything about it I guess.”
His kids asking him where he was on 9/11 and he’s like “I was there. One block away. Didn’t see anything because I was delivering a Phantom Menace poster.”
I know I keep mentioning it but the fact the thing he’s delivering is so visibly poster shaped is so hilarious. Like if it was a big box labeled MEDICINE, KEEP REFRIGERATED or something visibly important, this photo would be a famous, used as patriotic propaganda about duty in the face of adversity. But this guy delivering what is almost certainly a poster while the South Tower collapses is almost an act of absurdism.
Unironically I think this is one of the best photos I've ever seen. I'm going wild over it. I want to burn it into my brain forever. This is someone the next town over from Pompeii bringing their brand new toga home while Vesuvius erupts in the distance. This is a Londoner eating dinner while the air raid sirens blast. This is anyone doing anything back in 2020, really. The action of delivering a poster may be hilariously specific but the concept is universal. This expresses some fundamental element of what it is to be human. This is art, straight up.

Yes you, the one reading this post. My lovely mutuals. My tiny handful of online accomplices. My tiny corner of the interwebs. Please just tell me your favorite things to watch, or a piece of media that makes you happy or thoughtful or angry or anything. I want to know.
i tried to find some sources in order to have a more solid grasp about the subject, and came back with these insights:
Squatters’ Rights can change quite a bit from state to state in the USA, so for instance the lady's claim about a resident "for more than 30 days" may not be true where you live.
the vast majority of sources online are directed towards landlords, and thus not only is their goal to bypass squatter's rights but fail to state them properly and use... less than optimal language on the subject.
in short, these rights primarily revolve around the legal principle of adverse possession, where a squatter can potentially claim legal ownership of a property if they meet specific conditions, such as continuous, open, and hostile possession of the property over a set period.
one of the key protections squatters have is the right to due process, as mentioned by the lady above. property owners cannot use "self-help" methods, such as forcibly removing squatters or changing locks. Instead, they must follow legal eviction procedures, which typically involve serving an eviction notice, filing a lawsuit, and obtaining a court order for removal.
giving "unauthorized occupants" a fair chance to present their case in court can create a lengthy and complicated process, which often frustrates property owners, especially in areas with strong squatters' rights laws like NY.
some sources: Lane, Lane & Kelly LLP, TenantCloud, New York Lawyers, AskLawyers, Homevisory.
