full of emotions, unfortunately

i'm filling in chipped paint with a silver sharpie--so far, it's quicker than paint and looks fine. it has a different shine than the paint/lacquer, so i have to kind of "dither" the edges of the marker's ink, but if anything i think that dulled chip look adds to the weathering. pretty cool!

still really, really proud of how the weathering came out on this.

so, having now fucked around with the lightsaber for a bit, i have just about recovered mentally from the sewing machine jam and will go back and try to unjam it in a few minutes. gotta find my tiny scissors to get in there and undo the lacework that the bobbin spontaneously decided to try.

currently reworking on the pants (trousers for you brits) to try to reduce the number of safety pins near my crotch when i wear the costume (yikes!) by trying to make the fly functional for ease of use and so they can be more fitted. haven't fully decided yet but i'm leaning toward just using velcro for the closure so it's easily adjustable. i'm also taking in some little dart things up by the hips and making the leg of the pants much narrower at the bottom so they'll fit inside the boots without safety pins.

will probably work on the gambeson next, since that's the next most major element of the costume that i have 0% done. somehow people at the convention recognized me anyway! which was cool. but still, that's the next biggest missing piece.

after that, it's a lot of more finicky/difficult projects:

replacing the nasty plastic buckle on the belt and making the pouches/attaching them and the water bottle

finishing the 3d prints for the metal elements of his costume (this will be annoying because i was in a hurry for the con this spring and used them unfinished, so i'll need to drill out those rivets holding the pieces there, then once finished, re-rivet)

remaking the tunic in a way that the seams are not fucked. i really have a hard time wrapping my brain around the geometry of sewing. i know what seems like it SHOULD work and then it doesn't do what i expect. have had some surprising problems despite tracing patterns from garments i own. would really love formal training on this so the stuff i make doesn't look like shit when you inspect it up close
