Crowley cackled, throwing his head back, and when he looked back, he found his friend’s cheeks to be slightly pinker. A pang of longing tugged on his heart at that sight. Aziraphale had to find him just a little bit attractive, right? Even if they would never date him — they were far too different, from their education to their life style, they had nothing in common whatsoever — they had to think of him in some ways sometimes. Right?
He knew Aziraphale was gay. Gayer than a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide, actually, it didn’t take Sherlock Holmes to guess that. And he also knew his friend wasn’t ace. He’d had doubts at first, but those had been swiftly taken away and crashed onto the ground, the day he had walked into Aziraphale and their ex-boyfriend Oscar making out in the bookshop. Making out being an understatement here. At the same time he’d had his hopes and dreams shattered to the ground — they weren’t such good friends at the time, and Crowley still nourished the hope to be more at some point — Crowley had been subjected to the most angelic vision to ever bless his eyes. The cherubic blond, flushed and sweaty, rubbing themselves on the lap of some thin dark guy, was a vision he had never forgotten. Especially since he could easily picture himself as said thin dark guy.
“D’you think they like falafels?” he asked at some point of their meal, as a flock of ducks were running around them, chasing crumbs.
“You tell me, dear, you’re the expert.”
“Am I now?”
“Yes. You’re professor McDuck. The duck lord. The expert of all things ducks.”
Crowley’s laugh was intensifying with every silly title his friend was making up, the large smile on their face twitching with their own suppressed laugh.
“You’re ridiculous,” he managed eventually, wiping a small tear at the corner of his eyes. “I guess falafels are peas, in a way, right? They should like it.”
