Write that one-shot. Those 3 chapters will be the best 10 chapters you ever wrote
Ten chapters... Six fic series and counting. It's all relative.
Everyone will not just
If your solution to some problem relies on “If everyone would just…” then you do not have a solution. Everyone is not going to just. At not time in the history of the universe has everyone just, and they’re not going to start now.
Accurate. Way to friggin' accurate.
Trials and Trios Masterlist
Finally putting together that link post for Trials and Trios, co-written by @writing-wraith-thephoenix. Pls be patient with me, may take a week or so to get the list fully updated.

What if oxygen is poisonous and it just takes 75-100 years to kill us?
My science teacher said he thinks that’s true actually
Yeah this is actually pretty much exactly what is going on. It’s why anti-oxidants are such a big deal. Bonus fact: oxygen oxidizes stuff in your cells or, in other words, it’s not toxic, just setting you on fire very very slowly.
What if there are aliens out there but they subsist on entirely different substances and they’re just scared as shit of us and our crazy ass hell planet? Once in a while some alien anthropologist type suggests checking out the people on this inhabited planet out towards the galaxy’s edge. The other aliens just look at the naive academic with horror. No!! We do not go to that world. That is where the DEATH BREATHERS live. They recreationally consume poisons and are more or less composed of biological fire. Their atmosphere is made of rocket fuel. We must leave the DEATH BREATHERS in peace. Do not go there. Do not.
I tend to always reblog posts about humans being terrifying weirdos to aliens.
@brainsforbabyjesus
okay but…that is actually what went down on earth about 2.5 billion years ago.
Earth was doing just fine with a mostly nitrogen/carbon dioxide atmosphere and everyone was happy to go on living in anaerobic bliss and then cyanobacteria suddenly hit the scene, altered the atmosphere composition so that there was a ton of oxygen gas and killed practically everything (97% or more of all species on earth).
We are literally descendants of the DEATH BREATHERS and cyanobacteria is our deadly mother.
The cyanobacteria holocaust is so big, it doesn’t even have a cool name; it’s just called “The Great Oxygenation Event”; the *second* most apocalyptic extinction event in our planet’s history is the one that’s called THE GREAT DYING (the Permian-Triassic event, about 252 million years ago).
This shit makes like the rock-throwing that wiped out the dinosaurs look like kindergarten.
OH HOW I LOVE THIS POST. It makes me so much happier about being alive. I AM BURNING VERY SLOWLY. *hugs it*
And once again, the internet makes learning history and science a thousand times more interesting than school ever did.
I love shit like this.
I was totally having thoughts along these lines and along comes tumblr to pretty much sum it all up. Bravo~

I will continue to burn. Love all of this.

I understand that there is discussion of masking by autistic people that is much more honest and in-depth, but so much of the stuff I see sort of leans on the assumption that masking is something one chooses to do in order to appear "normal"
In reality, I think the behavior pattern that we name as "masking" is the natural behavioral and psychological result of being consistently punished for attempting to acknowledge your own reality during formative developmental periods. And I'm not sure that "masking" is a clarifying word to use for this
OK OK OK, someone in the tags said that they don't know the degree to which they are masking, bc they don't know what is normal/expected and therefore have no way of knowing how much they're altering themselves to fit into that expectation (thank you for articulating that!!) and I think that clarified a lot for me about my problems with the framing of masking.
Because that method of trying to "unmask" will always fail, bc it hinges on the assumption that there is a core underlying Self that is being Covered Up with the mask.
In reality, one does not have a chance to develop a true "self" due to the circumstances of their development. this is broadly true for almost all humans (SHOW ME AN UNALTERED TRUE HUMAN SELF,) because of the heavily social nature of how our selfhood intersects with other people's perception of us, but in some people it is much more marked and detrimental than others. What I think is the issue at hand is not the Self, but rather the internal experience. The Self is a construction we build to understand ourselves as beings, and it is heavily informed by our understanding of our own experiencs. understanding of those experiences is the actual issue. Being able to identify and name the effects that moving thru the world have on you. And teasing out how those acknowledgements of one's internal experience have been punished out of us.
The "recovering from burnout as a high masking person" post does use this framework, but I think that referring to people whose sense of their own internal reality has been so warped and shattered that they have to completely learn from scratch as "high masking" is just not intuitive and that it communicates what is being discussed... Poorly. I understand that that is the language that is used by the community broadly rn, and I don't object to individual instances of its use, but I do think that we would be better served in these conversations by framing it differently than "masking"
I also see people framing even the most basic social skills (things like "tolerating mild discomfort" and "avoiding offensive phrasing of desires") as masking. At a certain point I think we have to be aware that there is a degree of curtailing one's personal self expression inherent in existing within a society, and that autistic people are not the only people who have to be aware of societal norms and contort selves to exist within them as part of experiencing that society. The difference is of course in the degree of contortion required to fit neatly into the society, not the phenomenon of having to contort in the first place.
It bugs me! And I think it creates unnecessary friction among communities of people first discovering autism and is susceptible to a weird kind of reverse curb cut effect where unmasking (== "stretching out and de-contorting from the society in which you live into a more comfortable shape") is set aside as something Just For Autistics, as if there aren't lots of groups of people whose existence is policed and shaped and bonsai-trimmed into painfully stunted or twisted shapes. Which, of course there are, and not all of them are groups where a mental health framework is remotely appropriate (e.g. constraints on the acceptable behavior of black people especially in gendered contexts), so why are we framing so much advocacy this way?
YESSSSSS
Okay, have to add this. I've heard "masking" alternately referred to as camouflage, and I vibe with that so much more. Chameleons do not choose to have the ability to physically change their coloring. Such color changes have a variety of uses including communication. Baby chameleons learn this by observing as soon as they hatch.
Like the baby chameleon, the baby autistic does not consciously use techniques like mirroring. It becomes quickly ingrained that most people react better to x behavior than to y behavior. What we call masking only becomes a conscious choice after we know we're doing it.
So yeah, to me the term camouflage works much better than mask.
Genuinely not sure how to title this, so here goes.
I'm diving back into the university thing, Computer Sciences major. Now, I'm neurodivergent, specifically AuDHD. I've done the hunt for the magical app that will handle routines and tasks and things. Major issue I've found is the complete lack of acceptable variation built into the app for daily achievement. Especially with routines.
So, here's my proposed concept.
A cross-platform app designed to encourage neurodivergent individuals in their personal rituals and pacing using self-reported energy levels and lists designed around those fluctuating energy levels. Also a place to keep track of sensory accommodations and routines to maintain sensory stability and minimize overwhelm, sensory meltdowns or shutdowns, and encourage regular personalized sensory stimulation.
That's all I've got as of today when I started writing my ideas down. What's missing in the task and routine apps you've tried?
Today I found out...
Putting a simple comment of gratitude on a compelling YouTube video because you want to boost the message of just how systemically messed up something is doesn't work out like it does on Tumblr.
Apparently I should've written an entire nuanced paper detailing my opinions. Whatever. The goal has been achieved. More replies on my comments? More algorithm boost on the video hellsite of doom.
so I got into grad school today with my shitty 2.8 gpa and the moral of the story is reblog those good luck posts for the love of god

other superheros get training from their mentors, from the super secret society, from alien tech, from the monks or they have some kind of military background.
phantom, on the other hand, got training from the firefighters in his town after he crashed on their cases one too many times and they decided that "yup, if your gonna try to help, might aswell give you some training so you could be useful.", he got training from the paramedics because they were worried he wouldn't know how to help an injured human, he got training from his local town detective who smokes too much and gives him cookies when he can help with his Ghost senses and figure out if this was a human crime or a ghost crime.
Probably gonna use this as additional flavor for Trials & Trios series. It sounds fun for Danny to just randomly whip out [pick an obscure skill from the training] and whichever Bat is present be like "How tf did you know that??"
Hello, Liminal Mindspace. Goodbye Sanity.
So I had a job interview today. I felt like it went well. My brain settled on Yeah, we got the job!
Two hours later...
Owner's Text: Thank you for coming in for an interview today. We have a few more interviews lined up this week. I will get back to you next week about the position. Thank you.
My brain now:
Me getting up in the morning like
Hittin’ the keyboard like
Friends comin’ online like
DID YOu SEE tHE THINGg MY GOD
He was never the villain. He just wanted to party with his crew.
I've always thought it's too bad that disco is the only kind of dance that comes with an artifact. It's compelling that disco has a Ball. I want to know what secrets will be revealed if I gaze into it. There should be a hip-hop Cube. A ballroom Amulet. A swing Diadem.
I need this
Spitballing with the fellas on discord and we've come up with a Star Trek character we want to see: A 200-year-old top Vulcan diplomat attending a function and laughing boisterously and slapping backs with everyone and then just relaxing into resting bitch face the moment nobody is watching him. He takes his job deadly seriously and studied parties extensively in the diplomatic academy. Every year he's brushing up on new developments in party theory. He knows every party nuance you could possibly think of, for the sake of intergalactic relations. Peace in the galaxy depends on it. It's weird but you gotta meet people where they're at, he thinks.
Sarek fucking hates this guy and it's 100% envy
human diplomat: [laughs at joke]
vulcan diplomat (to himself): this is great. I’m going to get a good grade in Party, something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve,
I Got A Degree In Party Rocking

Well, sleep has evaded me. My sinuses hate me. I'll just go do some alchemy and slightly unethical bit mostly benevolent necromancy.
your inner child is so proud of the writer you’ve become
Thank you, OP. I'm on the brink of tears, joyfully so. I needed this today.
