Character Progress and Gameplay Direction for Rogue Shifters
It's me, Alex, and in today's progress update, I'd like to give you a heads-up about my game, Rogue Shifters.
So far, the progress has been good. I've completed the lineart of all major characters, but I might need to make some changes to one or two of them. Except for one of the protagonists, the others were already sent to the colorist. Two of them are ready, and here you can see some of the sprites that have been colored alongside their expressions.
I'm happy with the progress so far, and I'm expecting in July to have four or five major characters colored.
As for the backgrounds, I'm thinking of using some of the backgrounds from my other game: Parallel Pulse. Both games are in the same world, but the theme for this one is entirely different. Here you can see some examples of how the sprites look with the backgrounds.
I also finalized the gameplay of the visual novel, but I don’t have any visuals to share so far. I’m still undecided on which engine to use, but I’m heavily leaning toward Ren’Py for this one vs. Unreal. For sure, I'm going to prototype the basic UI and the first 5k words of the game in Ren'Py, then I’ll make my final decision.
And one last update: I'm also planning on reactivating my social media, where I’ll post shorter content. I’ll start with Bluesky, Tumblr, X, and Threads sometime next week. Stay tuned!
