So much joy here!
Teachers when a child shows a single ounce of individuality or creativity:
Public libraries in Mississippi have cut off access to digital platforms like Overdrive and Hoopla to those under 18.
I never want to hear conservatives go on about repressive censorship in China, North Korea, and Iran ever again
To be clear to those unfamiliar: these are the companies that libraries use to lend ebooks.
They are literally cutting off library access to minors.
date of article publication: July 7, 2023
two things stood out to me from the article: Mississippi's age of consent is 16, so it's apparently OK to have sex but not to read about it. (with parental consent, girls can be married at 15 and boys at 17; with parental consent and a judge's approval, there is no minimum age for marriage.)
and also, this impacts physical access to materials too: in order to enforce the ban, the Vicksburg Library has fully deactivated cards belonging to 16-17yos until they can get a parent or guardian to sign off. for teens with unstable home situations or parents who work when the library is open or who simply won't sign off, this means they can't check out books at all. bleak! bleak! bleak!

tbh if you use âgay panicâ to mean âhaha omg iâm gay and panicking,â you donât get to say shit about how ~queer is a slur~
I feel like if humans swallowed rocks like birds do to help grind up food we'd have so much fun with it.
Can just imagine all the girlies on tiktok going "I know this is a bit controversial but I honestly love using limestone as a gastrolith. Not only can you readily forage it but they are just so pretty when smoothed out after regurgitating them"
and then all the comments would be like " girl đ đ calcite dissolves in stomach acid!! Just use quartz if you want a pretty gastrolith like đ"
I like this site. Yâall just shotgunning counterfactual timelines

Is there anything worse than going through your older bookmarks on Ao3 and finding one deleted? I donât even know which fic it was now.
Iâm begging authors to orphan works not delete them.
Maybe youâre not proud of that fic anymore, maybe you were in a bad place when you wrote it, maybe youâre just getting older now and feel embarrassed of fic. But I promise you, that fic you wrote and deleted was probably one of someoneâs favorite fics and one day it just disappeared.
Many people donât copy paste the summary into the bookmark either, so they wonât even know which story it was anymore. Thereâs something really depressing about looking at your virtual shelf of fics and realizing oneâs missing and you donât even know which one.
I kept my horrible 10+ year old fics up on a sub par fanfic site just because I remembered the comments that people enjoying them would leave. They were god awful, but they still brought joy to some people, and maybe they still do even now.
So please, orphan your works before you delete your Ao3, turn off comments if you need to. You donât need to trash your writing. Thatâs one of someoneâs favorite fics.
the amount of people in the replies saying âwhat careerâ lmao
Gladly
Don't forget this meme exist because everyone on the set was hating him and they get super happy when he died.

What is this? What is this from? Why do thousands of people know what this is. Apparently itâs Romanian. What is it??
Theyâre the lyrics to the song Dragostea Din Tei by Moldovan pop group O-zone. It was a very popular song in the early 2000s
Weâve finally reached the point where the old memes are too old for todayâs generation⌠Fs in the chat.
For any wretched zoomersâŚone of the original viral videos aka the finest of vintage memes
We must not despair as long as we are here, we can teach the children about the ancient texts
Okay hold on but we canât talk about Dragostea Din Tei without talking about Gary Brolsma. Yes, thereâs a link above but that doesnât really explain just how formative a video this was in the relatively early days of the internet.
âThe Numa Numa Danceâ was posted in December 2004 to Newgrounds.com and was one of the first viral videos.
Estimates on how many times this video has been viewed run somewhere around ž of a billion views.
News articles at the time talked about how this video by itself âjustified the existence of webcams.â (Though I think the reason for the first webcam was reason enough.)
Letâs go back to the view count, though. If one person wanted to watch the Numa Numa Dance video approximately as many times as it has been watched in the past 19 years, and finish up the watching this year, they would have had to start roughly during the Battle of Piraeus in 403 BCE.
Yeah.
Humanity has, collectively, spent about 2426 years watching Gary Brolsma joyfully dance to Dragostea Din Tei.
The song charted on its own, donât get me wrong. Itâs still something like the 4th best-selling single of all time in France and the most successful Romanian-language pop song of all time. But its memetic longevity? There you canât skip over âthe Numa Numa Dance.â That is the Deep Memetic Magic of long ago.
