Lowkey sometimes I find the flashbacks in the handmaids tale harder to deal with than anything else, ​like take me back to the awfulness I can’t bear to see what they’ve lost

Despite everything June goes through in the first season and how objectively harrowing this entire season is, June gains back so much life and sense of self throughout the season which is what stops the show from being too devastating imo

Kind of obsessed with the way Garth is never prepared for a conversation with Daisy, she’s either on his ass or plotting something insane and he’s never ready for either

The contrast in episode 6 between the flashback events and the current events, especially in the lighting and acting, especially when it cuts between Hulda’s administration and the nighttime stadium scene is so Jarring. I was scared that they would sanitise gilead because of this trend in the last couple years of shows being scared of presenting dark subjects seriously/realistically. But they’ve used the contrast between the sheltering of these girls and the violence enacted on the generation before them and everyone outside of their bubble to show the many different ways that gilead exerts controls over people.
