I am begging people to learn about religion from real live people. If your only exposure comes from video games, sci-fi and fantasy, and bad quality historical dramas, guess what? You don’t know much about it.

This isn’t even in defense of any one religion. I’m just saying that fiction is the realm of satire, commentary, and thinly-veiled references. Please, please, please learn from real life. At worst, you’ll better understand the references that your favorite books keep making. And at best, you might better understand your neighbors.

The essential distinction between Sunnis and Shia is their concept of the Imamate and its restriction to the Alids, the House of Ali.

Shia Muslims claim their Imams are descended from Muhammad, the Sunnis believe leaders should be chosen by community consensus.

In my opinion, this historical divide could be explained by Muhammad not existing, I mean, why dispute that the living relative of a Prophet should have a position in their "church?"

The reason, again, in my opinion, is because they could not prove he was related to a fictional character, and if he was fictional, it would make sense as Sunnis are the Majority.

Why do I say this? Because, if the biography of a fake prophet was created to justify Arab rule of the Persian territories, it would make sense that they would elect their religious leaders, rather than rely on a fictitious blood relation.

Other than that, tell me what burgeoning political Empire wouldn't try to expand its reach?

The plot hole here is that they were definitely all preaching the new heretical religion by the time they took over North Africa twenty years after Mohammed's death. That religion came from somewhere. A liar and a lunatic, I will grant you, but there's just no time window for him to have been a fictional character.

Y'know, some people do have a strong crying response to stress, and they might cry (even against their own will) when faced with an upsetting situation and that doesnt mean they are "gaslighting" or "manipulating" you.

There are people who use crying as a manipulation tactic? Absolutely. But that doesn't mean that every person that cries during a heated argument is trying to get under your skin. They have their own emotions and issues, and frankly, not everything other people do is a personal attack on you.
