When my nanny family came back from Italy, the girls wanted to give me the gifts they bought me. Their mom was like “it’s not very big, we didn’t have a lot of time to shop.. you know it’s an Italian island, not much to go into…” and all it was was a couple little pens (that you can buy literally at Barnes and noble… I have looked at them) and an eraser… like kids toys… a very last minute panic buy… I don’t expect them to buy me anything from their trips… they pay me to watch their kids, they dont need to buy me anything extra… but their mom was like “there wasn’t a lot around” blah blah blah… but I saw every nice piece of clothing the girls brought back. Every nice gift they picked out for their friends. On Friday they had family friends over for dinner and gave them their gift which looked super nice and expensive, and I thought “but there wasn’t a lot of places to shop huh?” Again… I never expect them to bring me back anything, it just felt very second thought. Like don’t bullshit me about nowhere to shop and then pull out nice things you buy for other people… just don’t buy me anything, I wouldn’t even be mad about that… I get “it’s the thought that counts” but what if there wasn’t any thought at all? An “oh shit we didn’t get Suzie anything.. quick find something” I’m not trying to sound ungrateful, but again, I don’t expect it, and would rather not get anything at all if that’s how it’s gonna be.. just don’t fucking bullshit me. Be real.
