Logan watched the Human sneak through his cave. There were two pieces of cloth attached to each side of his chest like slings and Logan could see the bundles squirm every now and then but the man would shush the little bundles and continue sneaking through Logan’s hoard. 

His hoard was mainly old books, carpets and maps. But, in a nest made of soft blankets, there were vials of potions that Logan was taken from old mages. Logan treasured those potions though he would never use them himself. And it seemed that Logan’s little intruder was heading right to those precious items.

The intruder didn’t seem to realize that Logan was awake. The Human kept glancing at him anxiously but kept creeping closer to the potions. Logan growled deep in his throat and the Human froze. Slowly, the Human turned to face him, pressing protective hands on the slings sitting on his chest.

“You are trespassing here, Human,” Logan growled. He stood up, maps and rugs falling off of him as he did so. His wings stretched before dropping down against his back. The Human backed up from ginormous Dragon and Logan watched him intently. “You have snuck into my hoard and are here to steal my precious treasures.”

The Human’s heartbeat was going crazy and Logan could hear the Human’s breathing become swallow. “I, I came here to find something.”

“Find something,” Logan repeated incredulously. Annoyance sparked in him and he snarled, the Human flinching back at his sharp teeth. “You mean steal.”

‘No,” the Human cried. “I mean yes! Please, it’s very important!”

“This is my hoard,” Logan growled. “And you are a thief who has come in the dead of the night to steal from me! My books and my potions!”

“Please,” The Human begged. “I need something and it’s very important-”

“FALSEHOOD!”

The Human stumbled back as Logan lurched forward, baring his teeth. He had no real intention to eat the Human but he loathed when people tried to lie to him. If this Human wasn’t careful, he’d be taken for a flight before Logan allowed him to leave.

But, both of them stopped dead when a cry echoed through the cave. Logan’s eyes snapped down to the slings on the man’s chest and cocked his head at the whimpers and cried coming from them. The Human quickly started swaying back and forth, cooing down at the slings.

It sounded like Human Hatchling. But, why would the thief bring children with him?

“You’ve brought Hatchlings,” Logan mused. 

The man’s eyes snapped up and he tensed. For the first time since he had arrived, he looked ready to fight. “You’re not going to hurt them,” he snapped. “They’re mine.”

“And yet you’ve brought them to my hoard,” Logan said, leaning closer to try and get a better look. But the man stepped back and glared at Logan. “Let me see them.” When there was no answer, Logan softened a touch. “Please. I will never harm a Hatchling.”

For a few moments, the man didn’t move. But then the man stepped closer, slowly and nervously. Once he was close enough, Logan leaned close to look at the Hatchlings at he felt himself balk in surprise.

In each sling was a tiny little baby, one a little larger than the other. Both were identical in looks except for the scales on their faces. One had green and yellow scales on his left cheek surrounding a yellow eye. The other had far fewer scales than his twin. Underneath his eyes were vibrant purple scales that seemed to sparkle.

“Curious,” Logan breathed. “I did not know that Human Hatchlings had scales.”

“They don’t normally,” the man said. “But, well, they were cursed, you see. Their parents upset a local Sorcerer their children were cursed as revenge. They were abandoned to die but I couldn’t just let babies die.”

Logan watched the babies as they squirmed in their slings. The one with purple scales extended a hand toward Logan, eyes shining bright with interest, but his caretaker quickly pushed the hand back down. 

“How were they cursed?” Logan asked. “Is it just the scales? They can be rather tiresome but one can learn to live with them.”

The man shook his head. “No, I wouldn’t be here if it was just the scales. I love their little scales, they’re beautiful. The real curse is that the scales will keep coming. And coming and coming until they’re covered with them. And the day that the last piece of skin is covered is the day that they die.”

The Human ran gentle fingers over the larger baby’s green and yellow scales, coaxing a giggle out of him. “I don’t want them to die. They’re innocent and they’re mine.” He looked up at Logan with teary eyes. “I love them,” he whispered. “I can’t just let them die.”

Logan felt his heart thaw at the man’s story and he nodded. “I understand. I too once had a child. A son by the name of Roman. He is grown now and has a mate of his own. But if he was threatened in any way, I would do anything to save him.”

He sighed and flicked his eyes back down to the babes. “Do you know the name of the potion that you require?”

Tears leaked out of the man’s eyes and a relieved grin grew on his face. “Yes, yes! It’s called Praepediens et de Scales. I was told that it’s a very dense red potion. It won’t make the scales go away but it will stop any more from growing.”

Logan nodded and took a few steps toward the nest of blankets where the potions were kept. He heard the Human gasp as he stepped over him but the Human didn’t move as Logan gently picked up one of the vials in his mouth. He walked back and set the vial at the man’s feet. 

“Praepediens et de Scales,” Logan said, straightening back up. “Here.”

The man bent down and took the vial, holding it reverently. “Thank you,” he sobbed. “Thank you so much. If they’re anything I can do to pay you back, I’ll do it.”

Logan shook his head. “I ask for nothing more than you and your children’s names.” 

The man grinned at him, not bothering to wipe away his tears of joy. “My name’s Patton Heart. And this one,” he pointed at the larger baby with the green and yellow scales, “is Dee. This,” his finger moved to the smaller one with the purple scales, “is Virgil.”

“Patton Heart,” he said softly. “Know that you and your children are welcome back to my cave anytime.”

Patton left that day with several more thanks given and tears shed. The day ended with Logan being happy with the fact that he had saved two young boys from terrible fates, even if he had to have lost one of his vials of potions to do so.

This week I tackle feet. I know how many of you asked for it.

It is hard topic indeed. It’s hard to draw nice looking character with feet that doesn’t look believable. 

A lot practice is needed. I just presented few ideas and now you have to put it to practice.

But I’ve already seen some posts and asks that aren’t worried about that. Fanders that are more concerned with ‘is Thomas a bad person?’ and ‘can I still like Sanders Sides’. Fanders that are attacking the people calling Thomas out. Fanders who are taking this personally.

And look, I get it.

Sanders Sides is an important show to you. Thomas is someone you look up to. Hearing this kind of news, it can be hard not to take it personally. It can be hard not to worry about how it makes you feel.

I get it! I had that knee-jerk reaction, too!

But you’ve gotta work through that. You’ve got to step back, take a deep breath, and think this through. You’ve gotta get yourself out of your immediate defensive or upset reaction, and you’ve gotta remind yourself of your priorities.

It can feel like a personal failing when someone doesn’t live up to your expectations. But no one ever will. Thomas isn’t perfect, and neither is his crew, because nobody is. It’s not your fault, and it’s not something to deny.

It can feel like you should stop watching TSS or avoid Thomas Sanders. That’s your choice, but for what it’s worth, this is far from over. I’m waiting to see how the crew handles it–mistakes happen sometimes. And we can all make our choices when we have more information.

It can be painful or uncomfortable to see this stuff. But your feelings aren’t the priority here. The priority is helping and standing with the people who were hurt.

It can hurt. But you’ve got to get past that.

If it bothers you, block the tags or watch something else. But be aware that this is happening. This is a good reminder to all of us–me included–that high expectations for creators can do more harm than good.

Thomas & Co made a mistake.

And as much as it can sting, you’ve got to recognize it’s not about you. It’s not about me. It’s not about canceling anyone, attacking anyone, or painting anyone as the victim. It’s not about us.

It’s about getting apologies and reparations for a group of animators who were overworked and underpaid.

They have to take a pill every day to treat a chronic illness or chronic pain? Okay, what happens when they forget, or are in a bad situation and run out of pills?

They lost a limb or are paralyzed and now they have a sci-fi cybernetic prosthesis/exoskeleton to replace the lost functionality? Cool. What does maintenance look like? Does it ever malfunction? What happens if they don’t or can’t take care of it? Do they still get phantom pains even with the adaptation?

They’re deaf or blind or anosmic, but they’re a wizard who uses magic to adapt to the lost sense? Fine. What does it take to maintain that magic? Do they have adaptive strategies for when the magic fails?

They’re autistic or have ADHD or schizophrenia or some other cognitive disorder, and they have a chip in their head to make it easier to communicate when non-verbal? Okay. What exactly does it do for them? Does it ever malfunction or give them headaches? What are other ways they’ve adapted to their disability apart from this chip?

Other questions to ask that go for all kinds of things:

Do they have a service animal? For what tasks or situations is it trained?

Do their family/friends know how to help if their adaptive technologies/strategies fail?

Is their disability (or the adaptation) visible or observable to others? How do others react?

Has their society adapted to accommodate disabilities, and if so, in what ways? (Ramps, closed captions, sign language, etc.)

It’s the difference from the first (I think?) X-Men movie, when Rogue bursts into Professor X’s office excitedly asking if it’s true that someone’s found a way to cure them, and Storm replies with “no, they can’t, because there’s nothing wrong with us.”

Storm has weather powers but could live a completely normal and fulfilling life as a mutant if mutants were accepted socially. With accommodation and social acceptance, Storm would not be significantly negatively impacted by her mutation.

on the flip side, Rogue kills people who touch her bare skin and could never live a completely normal life due to needing precautions to avoid accidentally killing people, and will also always have to live with the stress and anxiety of knowing she could kill someone if she’s not careful enough. Even if mutants were fully accepted socially, she would be significantly negatively impacted by her mutation.

So no, STORM doesn’t need to be “cured” and it would be shitty to suggest she does, but it’s understandable and even reasonable for ROGUE to desire and get a cure, even if that cure is not removing her mutation but at least removing the worst parts of it (like how she had no control over the killing-by-touch part).

I don’t want to be “cured” of autism or even (though it can be a pain in my ass) ADHD. I would take any suggestion I should be  “cured”  of these things very personally as offensive. I know a lot of people who are physically disabled (blind, deaf, amputee, just to name a few) don’t feel like they need to be “cured” or “fixed”. It’s deeply ableist to assume that someone with ADHD or who is Deaf can only have a fulfilling life if they are no longer those things.

On the other hand, I have severe chronic joint pain. I would give anything to be cured of that, because all it’s doing is hurting me an lowering my quality of life. No accommodations would actually improve that. I would still be in pain, I just might be in slightly less pain, and frankly, fuck that, I want to be in no pain.

So, no, disability or neurodivergence being assumed to need curing/being cured is not actually 100% either way, but by and large “things that can be accommodated for to allow for a full and happy life” are the ones you absolutely do NOT want to go around curing willy-nilly in fiction.

That being said, there is also something to be said for having representation as someone with chronic pain and fatigue, of someone who suffers too but still gets through the day, and doesn’t have it magically fixed. THAT is all up to the story you’e been telling and the tone you want to develop, imo, but I couldn’t tell you how to get there.

1. Have proof they’re a teenager first. More than just a picture, have a video call with them.

2. If you want to meet up with them, have your parents or a trusted adult come with you. Even if they are a proven teenager, its still good to have supervision in case any issues happen.

3. If you are talking to an adult, and they start being sexual in any way, you run the fuck away. It doesn’t matter if they’re 40 or 20. An adult inherently has a power dynamic that teenagers do not. And its up to the adult to act responsible about it. There’s exceptions of course, if you’re 16 and dating an 18 year old, that’s not a problem, we’re not talking about that.

4. Being in a server with adults or ran by adults is not inherently bad. Talking to adults is not inherently a problem, and will likely happen in any number of Discord servers. It is only an issue when they are acting sexual and show predatory behavior.

5. Look out for grooming behavior. It can be difficult, because at first it seems like innocuous behavior, like complimenting or giving gifts. Especially if you feel lonely and have low self esteem. And groomers actively target people like that.

If they start trying to isolate you, talk sexual with you, state they depend on you for emotional needs, blame you for their own actions, try to be secretive about the relationship- Then you need to talk to people you trust, block the perpetrator, and call the police on them.

“Wait hold on the suns not at the exact position yet to compliment my eye and make my scales shimmer, all the while making my outline glow and offset the outfit, give me a second.”

“Can we please just go home already—“

“Oh quit whining the sun is almost at the right place—“

“YOU SAID THAT THREE HOURS AGO”

*7 hours later*

“Drat, the suns already set. Looks like we’ll have to so this again tomorrow.”

“What—“

“If the sun won’t help us then we’ll have to do it ourselves”

“SHUT UP FRAUD FROLLO YOU LOOK GREAT—“

“YOU SHUT UP I DO NOT—“

Eventually Logan just slaps him because he’s done sick and tired of his falsehoods.

Janus just looks at him, appalled, gobsmacked—

 - Did unlawfully and without malice of forethought falsey impersonate a “less pretty” person.

Count two; 

- Did unlawfully hinder the progress of important work efforts through constistant stalling and deceit of one’s own self image

Count three; 

-Did unlawfully look so god damn hOT-”

“Roman I’m literally the prosecutor here?? And you saw me look at the picture????? Why is that— why—“

“Wait I’m missing my suit—“

“You’re not a lawyer this time, pat”

“Good evening Mr. Sanders. Being the individual in charge of all of us, including the sweater picture set, you were there to witness said events?”

“…yes? Was that a question?”

“Fantastic. What can you confirm or rebut regarding the charges?”

“Oh they’re all true”

“theY ARE NOT-”

“OH! Looks like they are. That settles it, Janus is guilty.”

“That’s misleading the witness!! I said they weren’t true!!”

“Yeah, and you’re deceit, so clearly you mean that they’re true. Therefore, you’re guilty, so—“

“yOUR HONOR YOU KNOW THATS NOT WHAT I MEANT—“

And after Thomas goes up janus calls virgil to be his witness, and the questioning is like :

“Ok how do you think I look regularly”

“Like a twister game board”

“Rude but thank you— now how do you think that picture looked?”

“It was genuinely beautiful I don’t understand—“
