i think star trek should write an in universe reason why some series don’t have swearing and some do. make it a universal translator glitch or something.

Kirk would have kept the swears on but any ship carrying Dr. Leonard McCoy is required by Starfleet regulations to turn them off

I feel like this is even better when you know that the context is that they've just seem three spectral hags emerge from the fog to recite a prophecy of doom that mentions Captain Kirk by name.

This isn’t unique to Star Trek of course, but I do think it’s so funny how the normal amount of time it takes to respond to a comm or a hail from someone else is entirely dependent on whose perspective we’re seeing it from. If someone tries to use their combadge to contact someone else and they don’t respond within 2-3 seconds, that’s immediate cause for alarm. If, however, we’re watching a character who receives a communication from someone else, they’ll often finish up whatever they were doing before responding and no one will be alarmed at all. Or sometimes when our protagonist ship hails another ship, they’ll say “no response” approximately three seconds after sending out the hail. But if another ship hails them, they’ll often have a whole little debate before responding. Obviously this is necessary for pacing (who wants a twenty second pause of complete silence waiting for a response in the middle of a scene), but also it’s just one of those fun, charming things about Star Trek that makes no sense whatsoever.

It's actually incredible that they don't give Kirk a love interest in any of the movies. the closest we get is Gillian and she doesn't even give him her number at the end. you can't tell me this isn't intentional

With the knowledge that Vulcan has regularly high winds & subsequent sandstorms I propose a type of guy: midwestern dads watching tornadoes but for Vulcans. Somebody's uncle Sovar standing outside with his hands on his hips watching a massive cloud roll closer. Unconcerned because this happens, like, every couple of weeks. He's like "this one is large, is it not" yes it is go back inside Sovar

Star trek is crazy because when it’s trying to be romantic, I find it the most cringe worthy thing in the world, and then Kirk and Spock will have “platonic” lines to each other that are  so earth shatteringly romantic that I want to burst into flames

A standard star trek rule is any romance the writers try to write intentionally won't work at all, but the ship that they desperately try to keep from happening cannot be denied
