Love the fact that in any other time period or country, a presidential assassination attempt is constant headline news worldwide, but at this point it's like, "oh, someone took another shot at trump? ... he dead?... no, then why are you bothering me?... Let me know when he's dead."
According to color theory, brown has more positive connotations than negative. Brown is associated with nature, stability, and warmth. Also a rich neutral tone goes well with most decor.

TUMBLR STORY TIME.
I volunteer for my local shelter and when the weather's good, we do a free vaccine clinic every Friday. Free distemper, free rabies, cats and dogs. We hand out free food from the pet pantry, we give people leashes and collars, we do whatever we can to keep people's animals at home and healthy. Every animal that can stay home and be fed and be vaccinated is an animal that we can keep out of the shelter.
We get all kinds of folks, sometimes we even get backyard breeders but we don't do any judgment, because we want people to come and get their dogs vaccinated, because one parvo case costs $7000+ and the whole year of Parvo vaccines for hundreds of dogs costs less. It's just harm reduction, everything we do is harm reduction.
So anyway, this one day this woman comes up to the vax clinic and she is high as fuckin' hell, just obliterated fucked up, smoking a joint in line, and she has this TINY pibble puppy with her, maaaaybe four weeks old. This thing is so fuckin tiny and wormy and lethargic, and she's like, "Hey I heard I can get her shots." and we're like, oh fuck this puppy is gonna die. Like straight up, we were all like, fuck that dog is gonna die. So we gave her wormer, we gave the first distemper shot, and I put together a whole care package: wormer to take home, puppy milk replacer, puppy wet food, a leash, a harness, some blankets, toys, we gave her instructions on how to get the puppy eating food, and we told her to come back in 3 weeks for the follow up vaccine. And we were all like, well fuck, that puppy's gonna die, goddamnit, that's so fucked up. But you know, we did our best, and we hoped we'd see her again.
And in three weeks, you guys, she showed up. And she was still high, but like, half-high this time. Smoking a cigartte in line but like, could focus, could ask and answer questions. And she'd taught that tiny puppy how to SIT and had her walking on a leash. We found out that it took her three buses to get to the clinic, and she told us all about how she got the puppy eating right, got her stool solid, she was taking her on walks... The puppy looked so good, you guys. I almost cried, it was so big. Really happy puppy. At the end of the visit, we were like, ok, see you in three more weeks for the next distemper.
So three weeks later, she shows up, and she's sober, and she told us, "You know, I was really fucked up the day I bought that puppy, I wasn't sure I was going to live, and I bought that puppy and she was too young, and I didn't know what I was doing but y'all were so nice to me, and you helped me so much, and I knew that I had to give this puppy the best life I could, so I moved back in with my grandma, and I'm getting clean, and I'm on methadone, and I'm going to rehab next week, and when I get back, I'll come back and visit you guys again."
So I just wanna say. Sometimes it's hard to find a reason to get clean for yourself. Sometimes you gotta do it for a little critter that depends on you.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that absolutely nothing justifies what the US has done, is doing, and will do in Iran, and as always there's going to be an immense amount of fabricated nonsense to retroactively excuse unforgivable war crimes and atrocities committed by the US government.
You should not support the troops, who freely volunteered to do exactly this type of thing. You should not excuse the callous slaughter of innocent civilians because you dislike their government. And you should not buy into any narratives painting this as anything but a violent reprisal for the 1979 revolution that overthrew a US-backed puppet regime.
This is not bad because it's "bad for the American economy," or "putting American lives at risk," or "bypassing the legal process for starting war." This is bad because it's subjecting the Iranian people to unfathomable cruelty and bloodshed and violence for no reason other than that the US thinks it has the absolute mandate to force its will upon the entire world and rain down hell from the skies when it doesn't get its way. It's bad because Iranian children are being killed in air strikes on their schools and Iranian people in general are going to starve and freeze and die of preventable diseases.
Nothing can justify this atrocity. Nothing can convince me that Iran poses an offensive threat to the United States, beyond challenging its regional authority in a place it has no business in. Nothing can convince me it's possible to murder children for their own good.

Now THIS is art. đ
âWhen I first saw the original painting, I began to do some research on that little boy. I could find everything I wanted about every other detail in the painting, but there was nothing about him. No history. And so I wanted to find a way to imagine a life for this young man that the historical painting had never made space for in the composition: his desires, dreams, family, thoughts, hopes. Those things were never subjects that the original artist wanted the viewer to contemplate. In order to reframe the discussion, I decided to physically take action to quiet [and crumple] the side of the painting that weâve been talking about for a very long time and turn up the volume on this kidâs story. And thatâs the reason why I started that painting.â Via Artnet News 2019/03/27
i love when youâre talking to someone whoâs not from florida and you just casually mention a thing that only happens in Florida and it ruins their whole day
one time i was talking to some guy and he was like âhaha how do yall get alligators in your backyard? do you not have fences?â and i had to inform him that gators can absolutely climb fences
omw to go sit in your pool
this is why kennedy space center had to install fancy outward-curving fences around the launchpad, bc gators climbing over regular fences and getting on the launchpad could be very dangerous
Iâd like to think that the âSTOP đâ sign is also for the gators.
The gators donât abide by our petty laws. They areâŚinstigators.
turns out they climb trees too. Like regularly. they tend to do it a lot less once they reach certain sizes, but like several crocodilian species turn out to have a whole development period where they spend a lot of time in trees, and we just never knew that until like 2014 because, understandably, nobody who was studying them thought âi wonder if I should look for a bunch of crocodiles up in the treesâ

Imagine I travel back to ancient Greece to try to impress someone with some mundane modern products, but I can't get anyone to listen to me because they won't stop sneering at my pants
Rookie mistake. Everyone knows that you need some pins, a piece of fabric, a blanket, and a belt if you wanna be taken seriously in the Mediterranean before the year 300.
Guide to dressing properly in Ancient Greece
Fabric: Wool or linen fabric. Stuff like cotton or silk wouldâve been hard to get. Not impossible, but hard to get.
Colors: The average person likely wouldâve had the means to dye their clothes brown, yellow, or blue from easily available plants and rocks (not deep royal blue that was harder to make). Red or pink dye was available but more time consuming and expensive because it was made from specific insects. Green dye was made from minerals like malachite so was possible but definitely less common. Unless youâre pretending to be a very rich noble you will not be wearing purple. You may also bleach your fabric white but this wouldnât be super common. White clothes show their dirt and wear more than patterned ones.
Patterns: Basic geometric patterns are a safe bet. If you donât want to buy your fabric from a reenactorâs shop and want to make it yourself this paper has some research on Homeric era weaving youâll likely find useful. Plain solid colors will also likely be safe.
Belts: A belt will go around your waist and be useful for holding your clothes together and possibly tying your purse to depending on what look youâre going for. It could be anything from a cord tied around the waist to a leather belt to an elaborately decorated and embroidered accessory. Some modern belts built for this same purpose would likely pass. At bare minimum you could just tie a strip of leather or a cord around yourself and call it a day.
Shoes: Both sandals and boots wouldâve been used depending on the climate and the kind of work a person would be doing. If you want to put in bare minimum effort wear some brown slip on boots or some leather sandals you tie yourself. If you want to be really accurate or plan to be in a situation where youâll be scrutinized heavily youâll likely have to have some custom made for you. If youâre going to be in an area with snow you may want to invest in a good pair of wooden clogs to keep the leather of your shoes from getting wet. If youâre in a situation where youâd like to wear socks they did have socks but they likely wouldâve been made from matted animal hair and not yarn.
Basic clothing styles: Almost all clothing wouldâve been a pinned sheet of fabric in this time period.
Most basic is the chiton which was worn by both women and men. However, if youâre looking to pass as a woman youâll likely want the fabric to go down to your ankles while if youâre looking to pass as a man itâll only go down to your knees. For men it can also only be pinned over one shoulder, leaving part of the chest exposed.
For men, a tunic can also be used as demonstrated in the charts below. To make a chiton, fold the top quarter to third of your fabric down and then fold it in half, pinning it over your shoulders and down the side of your body. A tunic is basically just a piece of fabric with a hole for your head that would be pinned down the side, as demonstrated below.
A peplos is quite similar to a chiton but only worn by women and made with a tube of fabric rather than a sheet.
A common type of traveling cloak for men would be the chlamys, which is a piece of fabric or a blanket pinned over one shoulder
If you want to cover up and/or stylize even further a himation was a garment worn by both women and men which was basically a large loose piece of fabric that could be stylized based on the wearerâs preferences. Itâs also good for protecting you from the weather, be that sun or cold.
Hair and makeup: Donât use the skin or hair care products that the locals offer you because thereâs a good chance that theyâve been putting toxic chemicals in it.
For those dressing as men, if youâre traveling in the early Homeric period growing out your beard could be beneficial for fitting in. Otherwise in general short uniform haircuts with a clean shaven face should be enough for you in most circumstances.
For those dressing as women, long hair is preferred and you could absolutely do your research on complex hairstyles requiring pins and sewing needles but a fishtail braid and a thin cord or a headscarf will probably be enough. For your makeup, thick eyebrows, eyeliner, pale skin, and red lips are generally attractive in Ancient Greece but preferences can vary based on time period so be prepared to change your plans based on what the locals are doing.
Pins: Pins and ties will hold basically all of your clothes together so have a lot of them. Plan on losing some. Regular metal straight pins and brooches will do well but if youâre worried about getting poked they also had a version of safety pins back then so get some of these or think of an explanation for your personal safety pins if someone asks
Dressing for cold weather: Most of Greece is hot and dry so lightweight clothes and straw sun hats will serve you well in most circumstances but there are colder areas up in the mountains and freak cold fronts to prepare for.
Generally, wear wool and wear layers. Capes, wool caps, and blankets are your friend. As previously stated in this guide, wooden shoes or platforms can help with keeping your leather boots dry and also gives you some grip on ice and wet surfaces. If your legs get cold, a common practice was to wrap strips of wool cloth around your legs and pin them in place. You can also wrap your feet or stuff loose fabric or wool in your shoes if you donât have felted socks. Unless youâre visiting after 400AD pants/trousers wonât be super common in the region so expect some odd looks if you plan to wear them. If you want to wear a scarf, a solid fabric wool one would likely be more common than a knitted one.
Thatâs what Iâve got for ya. Good luck with your time traveling! Donât catch smallpox!
this is, as the kids say, frying me (a glasses wearer)
Additional update to this
There's a new mural in Szczecin
You forgot to add the best thing about it
Maybe it's naive of me, but whenever I see portraits like this, with just a father and daughter, it restores my faith in humanity a little. Because people seem to love this idea that fathers never loved their daughters in the past and only saw them as bargaining chips for marriage or whatever, but look at the guy in the first portrait on the left, he loves that little girl! And the dad trying to do his work while his daughter bothers him with an Old Timey Barbie. The man teaching his daughter geography, his expression is so soft! The way the man in the last portrait holds the little girl's hand! And none of these are incidental, these aren't photographs, someone (probably the father) paid good money and sat down for hours so that they could have a painting of themselves and their daughter. Probably because they loved their daughter.
From left to right: 1795 MichaĹ Jerzy Mniszech with his daughter ElĹźbieta - Marcello Bacciarelli; Christopher Anstey and his daughter Mary Ann by William Hoare 1776; A Musician and His Daughter by Thomas de Keyser 1629; The Geography Lesson (Portrait of Monsieur G. and His Daughter), 1812; Jean-baptiste Isabey And His Daughter; Portrait of a Young Girl and Older Man by William Harrison Scarborough
(this is probably somewhat related to my other favourite genre of painting, Husband With Multiple Kids Making Come Hither Eyes At His Wife)
oh I love those! People being people is one of my favourite kinds of paintings and an important reminder that people in past times were not all that different. There were dads who loved their daughters fiercely. There were fathers who happily looked after their babies too. The German reformer Philip Melanchton for example had a cradle in his office. His wife was busy organising a household for 20 people- she was out and about, he mostly worked in his office, it made sense for him to look after their babies too babies while she dropped by at snack time.
in fact often if it was kind of safe dads had the babies in their workshops for just that reason as we can see in these paintings:
The left is âthe busy fatherâ by Theodore Weber, the right one is âAt the china repairerâs â by Wenzel Tornoe. All dads who are actively involved in childcare and a painter who thought it was a cute topic rather than anything ridiculous.
I raise you:

Good news! It gets worse!
I think it's the galactic orbit thing that really did me in
WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHARKS HAVE BEEN AROUND THE GALAXY TWICE
Itâs a very good design
i dont think whites understand how being white makes literally everything easier.
it effects everything.
being trans is easier when youre white.
being gay is easier when youre white.
being disabled is easier when youre white.
being a woman is easier when youre white.
being autistic is easier when youre white.
oppression is eased when you are white, as you get extra privileges, and your whiteness is seen as a positive characteristic that in some ways counter-balances your other forms of being a minority. whiteness controls everything.
you are automatically way more innocent in your own oppression as a gay, trans, disabled person because of your whiteness.
never forget this.
three things:
1. itâs true
2. white people get pissed when i bring this up/wear this shirt
3. the comments to this thread melted my fucking eyeballs seriously why the fuck are yâall like this
white people you donât need to say youâre white when you reblog this btw. you donât even need to mention it btw
