I'll start out by saying this is very likely not the first time you will have seen Yamato wrestle. He's been a Dragongate representative for UJPW and shown up at Wrestle Magic to face Kenoh. He's been on overseas expeditions to wrestle for GCW, Prestige, MLW, West Coast Pro, wXw, Mystery Wrestling and Defy. Finally he's wrestled a number of times for New Japan. He was in the main event of Shingo Takagi's 20th debut anniversary show in 2024, tagged with Tiger Mask in the 2025 Super Jr Tag League and won with Kushida at Death Vegas Invit⁠ational.

But who is Yamato actually?

He's what I would describe as the 'forever ace' of Dragongate, like Harashima in DDT. They may not be the top singles champion of the company but they've had so much success in their respective promotions (and continue to do so in other ways) that they are regarded as one of the pillars of the promotion. A constant. Yamato is a 6 time Dream Gate (top singles belt), 1 time Brave Gate (secondary singles belt) 10 time Twin Gate (tag belt) and 6 time Triangle Gate (trios belt) champion. He's also won multiple tournaments in the promotion, both singles and tag.

Yamato's a grumpy veteran with a bit of a saviour complex about Dragongate, repeatedly showing back up in the main event scene when he doesn't think the younger guys are doing a good enough job. Complaining about 'having' to carry the promotion on his back at his age. He's been described as having a narcissistic tendencies. Famous for carrying a small hand mirror with him to the ring to admire his features in and pushing his hair out of his face to show the crowd (who let out an appreciative "woo!"). This is something that his opponents often intimate. He's very protective of Dragongate and is often said to BE Dragongate. However he's also deeply insecure in himself, made clear in the fact that the first thing he said upon making his debut appearance in DDT was that he couldn't sleep because he thought nobody would know who he was.

Sometimes he's Wicked Yamato, his unhinged mist spitting gremlin alter ego with dark eye bags, when the heels of the promotion poke the bear.

He's a member of the veteran faction Paradox. His factionmates include El Desperado's wrestle big brother Dragon Kid, Shingo Takagi's bitter rival BxB Hulk and former DDT guest Naruki Doi.

When Yamato isn't being a bitchy old man with issues, he's practicing martial arts or cooking. Yamato is well known for his cooking skills, having gone to culinary school and published a cookbook.

So, what should you expect when he faces Dieno? Well just because Yamato calls himself an old man doesn't mean he wrestles like one, especially when on a big stage. He also won't back down from Dieno's more NSFW antics, with Yamato himself having a running bit involving his ass (pulling down his tights is the best way to counter his finisher, Gallaria).
