Alright: I’ve seen quite some people be upset about Impulse’s death(s) and how Jimmy had a hand in it and his reaction. And I get it! The poor man trusted his ally, and it ended horribly for him. On the other this is such an interesting development for Jimmy as a player and especially a character. He’s learning how the game works, you could see it in wild life, in past life and now definitely in nice life. He’s mean, vicious and cutthroat. In past life he fought against his reputation, and now he’s using it to get others to do what he wants. He’s learning who to target (Ren) and who he should leave alone (Pearl) in direct combat. He will happily take other’s scraps, nip at the heels of those hunted or sacrifice other players. Most of all he’s learning not to care about it, any of it really but especially death. Mourning and funerals is not something one gets in this game, because theres always atleast one person to mock the mourners, and if you’re the one mocking you don’t have to mourn.

And my god the concept of mourning? Your post made after past life about Jimmy not understanding grief is still stuck in my brain. The funerals he’s seen while alive were ranchers revenge in Double, his premature one in Secret, Mumbo and Skizz’s in Wild and the funerals for Tango, Pearl and Ren in Past (and for Tango’s he only watched from afar). All he knows is that people will, perhaps must, mock the dead, sometimes even allies do it. So yeah, of course he wouldn’t mourn correctly because he doesn’t know how. Of course he would rummage through chests for stuff that might keep him alive, and well, why put out the fire on a dead man’s base? No one needs it anymore.

-And don’t think how this is worse if one incorporates ghosts sticking around for a little bit after death. How no one was left to bury his body in Past, how nothing was left after the explosion in Wild, how Scar paraded around Lizzie’s spine in Secret Life. Don’t consider how Joel and Grian did bury him in Limited only to make fun of him, how quickly Grian got over it all, Joel’s body not even cold yet. How the ranch burned for a second time, no rancher left to put out the fires. How Grian laughed and blamed him and Mumbo for their desperate attempt. Whatever you do, do not remember the only ally who truly mourned him years ago, the memory now burried under too much bloodshed.-

So, he’s learning. He’s learning how to play this game and maybe it’s years late but he’s learning and messing up and maybe if people refuse to believe he’s dangerous then they won’t expect a knife in the back (or a mace on the head). And poor Impulse, well he was the lesson, collateral, wrong time wrong place and far far too trusting, exactly like Jimmy used to be.
