hii, if you've answered this before you can just point me to the post but would you point out what scenes/lore is related to the later books?

i'm only just starting QoTD and i'm not gonna have time to finish it before the season ends, so i'm curious to know what specifically the show is pulling from later books!

So I don't want to spoil too much about this, so I won't go into any deeply specific details here. But the things the show is pulling from the later books, at least as far as EP304 goes, are the things about the voices of other vampires being tired and restless wrt no one reaching out to them to teach them, to lead them... to help them form a community of their own.

That desire of vampires all over the world was one of the main themes and story threads going on within the vampire world, starting in the book Prince Lestat and carrying all the way till the end of the final book, Blood Communion.

"They long for a communion."

That is what Gabriella says to Lestat about the voices at the end of EP304, and that is what the final trilogy is about -- vampires all over the world coming together and forming their own community, together ... with a ruling monarch and royal council to govern them.

Also:

“We, as dark monarchs, intertwined, for all eternity.“ -- Lestat to Gabriella, EP304

The above moment/line from the episode was drawn from this conversation between them in the book The Vampire Lestat:

And then, there are these passages, written in Anne Rice's journals (which are archived at Tulane University), for what became the final book in the Vampire Chronicles series, Blood Communion, that were cut from the final book:

"Marius," I said[,] looking up into his eyes, & speaking in a hard voice that he could hear above the music, "Let it be known that henceforth all executions will be in this fashion." He nodded, a slight bitter smile lengthening his mouth. I think he sighed. "And they'll come from far & wide after this," he said. Before she passed, Anne Rice had said that she wanted to write at least three more books after the Prince Lestat Trilogy. Blood Communion was never intended to be the final book in the Vampire Chronicles series. It just ended up becoming so.

And so, though of course I have zero proof of this, I do believe that one of those three books that Rice wanted to write would have been titled The Monarchy of Darkness.

Because, as the cut passages show, that is what is set up by the end of Blood Communion. A community of vampires, who live outside and apart from humanity, and who embrace their own community with their own dark customs and rituals that are unique to them... as vampires... as monsters.

That is where the show is heading in the end, the story it is telling. And it basically lore bombed that in EP304.

At a time when Netflix is getting roundly criticized for forcing its shows to treat the audience like we have all of two brain cells to rub together, The Vampire Lestat is out here volleying everything from 70s gay references to 1700s Dutch Republic references at the speed of light while saying, "You don't get it? Recent discourse reminds me of that cult indoctrination trick that's often used to weed out more difficult marks early on, where they tell you all that you aren't allowed to eat rice on Tuesdays and then if you protest they go "wow SOMEBODY likes rice a little much huh" as if you're the fucking weirdo who cares too much about how much rice is consumed between Monday and Wednesday instead of them.

And this forces you to decide whether your autonomy matters to you more than the approval of the group - while they'll still act like you're on thin ice either way, if you give in at this point they know you're theirs forever, because now they've established a foothold, you've shown a moral weakness, which they will brand you with so it can be used against you in the future ("hey RICE-addict here doesn't want help break into the city records office") to force you to double-down and isolate you further.

And if instead you do decide to push back further, after your abrupt departure from the group ("You're seriously leaving us over RICE?!? Seriously?") and subsequent ostracism, you can then be used as a demonstration to the others who were more pliable, of how the outgroup is full of people like you who are obsessed with violating the No-Tuesday-Rice rule to the point where they'll abandon all their friends, who cared so much for them, so it clearly isn't an arbitrary restriction, you're the kind of monster these rules are intended to protect them from, thus all the other wise and esoteric precepts of the charismatic leader are implied to be equally justified.

The aircraft are all under the command of the Australian government, which has declared that the nuclear arsenals are not their problem and that no aircraft will help anyone out with that problem. Your grandfather did fly with the bracelet one time, but he only got away with that because no one involved knew what the bracelet was and it would have been a huge deal if anyone had realized what was up. If you charter a flight towards the world's only hydraulic press, the Australians will know and throw lightning at the plane.

I actually love the Louis and Regina subplot because it really is a continuation of the way Louis has always treated women, as a source of emotional labour that he can throw money at and have them make him feel better. It’s Miss Lily all over again, it’s “paying a whore to sit in a room and talk with him”. Making Claudia was always about Louis’ feelings under the pretence of saving her from the fire. He wants to save Regina from poverty but it’s all to make himself feel better. She sees through him but she’s so broke that she can’t afford to say no
