Back in the day I worked at a certain very famous and very high caste art museum in the US as a junior curator. Part of my job was to catalog the objects in the museum database. This includes details like provenance, measurements, and a visual description of what the object looked like.
Like I said, the museum was a pretty snotty institution. It’s got a LOT of objects it’s way famous for possessing, but nobody knew about the absolutely massive collection of Moche erotic pottery it had because the curators were totally embarrassed by this stuff.
Some examples:

They never, ever put any of this stuff on public view or published it in any catalogues but - we legit had like several hundred pieces of Moche ceramics in the “dirty pots” category. Anyway, I was left alone to just do my job with regard to the database for several years, ok? And I figured, well, these’re accessioned objects in the museum’s collection - better get down to bidness.
I catalogued every goddamn bestiality, necrophiliac, cocksucking, buttfucking, detached penis, and giant vulva drinking cup in that collection. I’d be like,

When the curators understood that I had catalogued all of these objects in addition to the other, non-sexy pieces in the collection, they were apparently livid, but knew they had no legs to stand on in terms of getting pissed at me for it.
I visited the museum’s online public access database a few years back and - every single description I wrote of these pieces has been totally neutered to say something like Male figural vase.
Long story short? Just call a dildo a fucking dildo. It’s all gonna be ok, I swear.
Museums should have sections dedicated to artifacts like these with a warning that says “There’s a lot of private parts in here but we’re dedicated to displaying history so we won’t censor these. Enter at your own risk” or something. It’s prudish to deliberately hide history because of some ding dongs.
I've been thinking about the obsession with needing a "queer history of the holocaust".
I think it is genuinely an impulse towards a kind of stolen valour via holocaust minimisation and subversion, not because being slaughtered in our millions was in any way valorous, but I think there's assumed to be a level of sympathy that comes with recognition that we were subjects of genocide.
So by making an equivalency between the thousands of queer people who were interned in concentration camps to the millions of Jews and Romani who were murdered in the death camps, they elevate the travesty of anti-queer violence in Nazi controlled Europe from its own tragedy to being a part of the genocide widely known as the holocaust.
That "people like me suffered too, why don't we get mentioned in this conversation?", goes from a conversation about having a memorial, to a demand to be on another community's memorial for their different suffering because it's bigger.
It's also - and I say this with respect in my heart for the people who were hurt and white-hot fury for those responsible - a different kind of tragedy.
The tragedy of the Nazi persecution of queer people is an intellectual and cultural one. Relatively few people were actually killed, but a generation who might have been coming out, and who were beginning to be heard and vibrant and public and happy (in some places - not all! Munich was not Berlin!) were driven instead into shame and secrecy. The most prominent elders were lost. The entire archive of the Inside for Sexual Science was gone, including vital work in gender-affirming care.
This is a bad thing!
However, the Jews of Europe lost all of that and also two thirds of their population. (Numbers for the Sinti/Roma are harder to find, but as near as I can figure it's about the same proportion).
They should each be treated as what they are, not minimised for what they're not.

I am happy to report that in this particular photoset we’re looking at a temporary holding tank, possibly being used to keep a lab employee safe during a routine water test. There is a strict no-shared-space policy for outside contractors at reputable spirit preserves, both to keep the ghost from becoming frustrated at its inability to approach what it perceives as prey, and to ensure the safety of outside parties. Training sessions focusing heavily on positive reinforcement are used to get the ghost accustomed to the holding tank as well as short trips between the pond and an appropriate secured location. Many health checks and enrichment activities can be conducted directly at the water source, but sometimes a more controlled environment is required. Please be assured that the ghost in the photographs is doing ‘well’. ☆⌒( ＾ ▽ ゜)

Notably for this purpose, in this campaign setting, Israel actively intervenes on echoes (alternate Earths that closely mirror our Earth's history, but aren't "up to date" with the present) to rescue Jews from historical pogroms, and engages in rear-line sabotage work on the Reich parallels (the general term for worlds where the fascist powers conquered the world or at least defeated the Allies during WWII) which might give you an idea for where your PCs fit in.
Ok, so what we do to start is make sure Hitler dies in that trench in WW1, and we disappear Mussolini while he's still writing communist pamphlets with zero circulation... Then we convince the European powers that in order to prevent a communist revolution ala Soviet Russia, they need to deliver representation and economic success even to their poorest subjects etc etc.
