Happy #PigpenDay! Pigpen first appeared in Peanuts on this day in 1954!

Pigpen may travel in his own personal dust cloud, but he takes pride in his appearance. He is confident and treats others with respect, even if they do not understand his ways.

Despite being a well-known character, Pigpen appears in just over 100 of the 17,897 Peanuts comic strips. “Usually, I just run out of ideas for him,” said Charles M. Schulz, “but somehow he keeps hanging in there.”

TRIVIA! Over the years, Schulz played with the spelling of Pigpen’s name, using “Pig-Pen” from 1954 to 1981, and “Pigpen” from 1981 to 1999.
