I was mostly on the fence for the Undertaker is Cedric K.R./Ciel's Grandfather theory, but today, I was skimming through the Book of Atlantic arc, and--
Here. this scene totally sold me on it.
No, it is not the matter of the mourning lockets, or Claudia's being one of them, or Ciel grabbing them and UT entrusting it to him just like that, or anything.
It's just that..... Ciel just looks so baby in his eyes??
Throughout the series, we have seen Ciel through various character's eyes. The "young master" (and prey) for Sebastian. The young master (and a child) for the servant gang at Phantomhive manor. from an outsider perspective, we have Arthur C.D. comparing Ciel to his own brother, later he thinks of him as a manipulative mastermind enjoying a game of real life murder with a demon butler by his side. His enemies think of him as a spoiled rich brat wrapped in cotton wool who has everything at his fingertips. etc. etc.
Like, this is probably the one single occasion we get a rare glimpse of UT's perspective, as we see his shock of dropping his precious chain of lockets. Fortunately, Ciel grabs it, and then.... we see Ciel through his eyes.
Not even a child, but a baby. I am in literal tears. Look at him, big innocent baby eyes, round baby cheeks, this is the rarest of rarest, babiest baby Ciel I have ever seen in the whole series, even. I am crying. This is what my grandfather means when he says I never grow up in his eyes no matter how old I get. Oh, that's his precious grandson alright. I have no doubt about this at all.
Plus, I don't know how far R!Ciel is liked in the fandom, but,
This is some grandpa behavior too. Just laugh it off as your feral grandchild tries to take a huge bite off your arm.
And now, I wanna know how he sees Frances in this scene, cuz Frances always comes across as strict and proper (and kinda scary) to everyone. but maybe, he does still see her as a little girl who would run about around him, unaware what he really is.
And this is just heartbreaking. the way he starts crying the moment he sees Vincent's photo. Imagine being alive for eons, and living on and on only to watch your child die the most miserable death, burned down to the marrow of his bones. Damn.
(We are going to get this scene animated and I am not ready ;_;)
